Note that recent AU had stopped doing this, because these days remote control automated weapons exist. Gundam 00 didn't even bother to explain how Fangs work because it was self explanatory. 00 Fangs have anti-gravity due to the GN particle system, and then everything else is just computes software.
There had been attempts to create Funnels in real life, but the main issue is thrust. A test showed that to make a funnel hover in Earth's gravity, you would run out of propellent in seconds. The control system by now is simple, unlike the 80's when Gundam first aired.

The same interference happen in 00 as well. Point being that back in the 80's no one really think you could fit enough processing power into a bit/funnel for it to be semi-autonomous. Even in CE they still had to came up will silly reasons why you need direct mental skills to know how to use funnels. By the time of 00 there is still the issue of communication, but target acquisition is no longer the pilot's job.

Minovsky interference fucks with most kindd of wireless communication. Newtypes however, emit "psycowaves" which are unaffected by the interference. Psycommu systems scan a person's thoughts and translates them into machine code before broadcasting them on the psycowave emitted by the newtype pilot. Remote wesponry picks up on this signal and takes commands from it.
Oldtypes can technically use psycommu, but lack psycowaves to broadcast the commands. So quasi-psycommu was invented to transmit the commands through interference free cables.
