I'm glad Galko is only a 7 minute long show. If it was a full 23 minutes, it would probably get tiresome by the end. But since each episode is short and sweet, it ends before it overstays its welcome, so I always get a feeling of "I enjoyed that" after watching.
Makes me wish more shows used this format.

As for the question, armor purging has become an oft forgotten tripe these days. It used to be popular with real robots when hardpoints was popular, but as real life weapons moved away from that, the feature's popularity wanted as well. Now weapons are more integrated and if a mecha dies heavily employ happiness or detachable armor, it's usually there to make a statement.
For sine examples, compare the Duel Gundam with Exia or most MS in Iron Blooded Orphan. Or look at the Meddiah from Macross Frontier vs the new planes in Delta.

The difference is at some point with mechs Agility will be infinitely be better than strength. Even in late UC Gundam, eventually at some point weaponry got so advanced that any shot you take will be lethal and armor is effectively worthless. So mech design became more and more focused on building tiny mechs that can dodge shot and be evasive since they could no longer rely on armor protecting them.

The whole point of Galko's character is that she's pure despite being a gyaru, who are stereotypically known for being loose. I just watched early Top Gear episode where they strip a Jaguar of everything but the essentials and it improve 0-60 mph time by 2 seconds, and 0-100 mph by 5 seconds.
Now a mecha need more things to do than just going fast. But unlike western mecha, Japanese designs are mostly ballerina of the battlefield so speed and agility is the most important aspect.
