Anyway. My point is that Zeon was never supposed to be space nazis. But one phrase seemed to have set the trend for series to come. It doesn't ruin the show. It's true that the speech is a serious highlight to the politics within the show. I just feel that Gihren didn't need to allude to nazism unless it was Tomino's intent to separate the true ideology of Zeon from the Zabi family's presence and fixture as permanent space assholes.
It's just a cartoon, but I love it.

Sieging isn't even a "nazi thing". "Sieg Heil!" literally means "hail victory"! And Sieg Zeon would mean "Victory for Zeon". This was used way before nazi regime in Germany. Nothing wrong with adapting German victory shouts by Zeon though, because they were indeed based on national german aesthetics, with some parts of it being imperial japan.

What we usually get in 0079 is low level Zeon soldiers and officers being pretty nice guys. Where the Fed low level soldiers abuse women and are dunkards and the officers are often pig headed. Of course when we look at what Zeon and EFSF are doing as an organization it is black and white who are supposed to be the bad guys. The point is that even bad organizations have good people in them- that is where the moral ambiguity of 0079 and pretty much all Gundam afterwards comes in.
