SEED and Destiny are the only Gundam series that I haven't seen yet so I figured I'd finally try them out. Which is least painful for each - original, HD remaster or the movies?
>>
The movies at least take the shortest amount of time.
>>
Original, for sure.

That way, you experience what SEED/SEED Destiny truly is.
>>
>>13894092
>you experience what SEED/SEED Destiny truly is
And what's that?
>>
>>13894087
Not only that, but they are actually, legitimately good
>>
>>13894093

A TV series that aired in the early 2000s
>>
>>13894092
I could have sworn op wanted the LEAST painful way to watch them.
>>
>>13894107

Then the movies.

The HD remaster is the worst thing
>>
>>13894080
Original, stopping when Freedom gets blown up. You can see the evolution, from the lame-ness that SEED was, to the awesome-ness Destiny was turning into, and NOT experience the terrible pain of Jesus Yamato.
>>
>>13894080
>Which is least painful
All the same.
>>
>>13894093
You experience SEED's original form, before the movies and Remaster edit stuff and made it worse off.

>>13894107
It is the least painful.
>>
SEED SD 1-50
SEED Destiny compilation movies.

This.

How did the movies make SEED worse?
>>
ENGLISH DUBBED ORIGINAL.
>>
>>13894080
Original for SEED for sure. Avoid remaster.

Dunno about Destiny. Maybe choosing remaster doesn't matter as much for Destiny.
>>
>>13894246
This doesn't seem like a bad idea at all.

what I find "funny" is that Kira w, for me, at last, even more sympathetic with his old chara design. The new one gives me a completely different idea about him.

why did this happen?

SEED Destiny movie is actually okay.
>>
Watch the original versions for both.
>>
>>13894472
Because they used the Destiny assets to remake SEED and Destiny Kira is deadpan as fuck.
>>

Say what you want about SEED and Destiny but the OST are god tier
>>

This.
>>
>>13894722
Seriously, Fukuda can't develop a story or character but he is legit 10/10 at using a OST efficiently.

Mind you skipping any recap episodes in Destiny is okay
>>
>>13894801
And that's my problem with him: the OST is completely wasted, no matter how effectively used it is, because the abuse of stock footage (among many other things) is just too distracting. It's to a point where I'd rather just minimize the player, and listen to the show instead of actually watching it.

>>13894810
I would like to find the broadcast version of SEED, rather. I found at least episode 48 of it a couple of years ago, and brought some nice memories.

>Which is least painful
That's an oxymoron, OP. In and on itself, SEED is a lot of grief. You're not under any obligation to see this excrement, just because it belongs to this overrated franchise. DON'T DO IT.

I'm pretty sure there's a lot of anime in your backlog that's a lot better, mecha or otherwise. Let's talk about those instead.
>>
>>13895115
It's pretty amazing that we live in a world where a big name studio can pass that off as a legitimate release.
>>
>>13895115
Good thing those awful upscaled scenes aren't too numerous.
>>
Which is the "best" release of the broadcast versions.

Trying to rewatch SEED and the remasters look abhorrent.
>>
>>13895884
I haven't been able to find the broadcast versions for SEED in years. Doesn't help that the groups that subbed them (Anime-Junkies, kek) died a long time ago. The ones for Destiny should still be around at torrent sites, though.

In any case, I'd recommend getting AHQ's versions. I think those are of the DVD releases.
>>
>>13895889
Cool, thanks famiglia
Did much change from the broadcast to the DVDs?
>>
>>13895884
Here's a torrent for SEED SD. I'm assuming you just want jap audio and subs.

>>

>>
>>13895893
I think the DVD release was pretty much the same as broadcast. It was the movies that started doing stuff like removing Mwu's helmet.

I'm not sure where the hell you'd get a torrent for the broadcast version in 2016.
>>
>>13895893
>>13895901
I don't think they're too notable, considering the time it was made and all. Current industry practices weren't used yet by then.

>the SD SEED meme
This is ignoring the random ass framerate and crap ass digital filters that only seemed cool in 2002 like the one where they blur the piss out of everything for flashbacks.

It actually looks really bad and most of the complaints about the Remaster are memes. (see: people complaining about Kira being on model while praising MJP and Fafner) There's unavoidable issues like cropping losses and I feel like the new version of the first ED loses some effect but people ignore how fucking terrible previous versions of SEED look.

>>13895919
SEED had plenty of DVD upgrades that were in the US broadcast too.
>source: not pulling things out of my ass
>>
>>13895919
>>13895917
Thanks.

I remember some anon saying that the first 12 or something episodes of Destiny actually made for a pretty decent story or something.

I kinda wanted to watch that chunk of Destiny and then just watch the movies.

>>13895929
I don't give a shit about Hiraiface being on or off model, the problem is that the remasters don't offer a dramatic enough increase in fidelity but it's like 30 GBs. In that sense, it's abhorrent and unacceptable.
>>
>>13895961
Yeah, Break the World is great. I think quality drops off 12 or so episodes in/whenever Kira shows up.

Fair point.
As it stands though, there really isn't a reason to get the remasters.
>>
>>13895961
>>13895968
I would argue the first half of the Destiny is really good, and far better than SEED - at least, disregarding the abuse of stock footage, which was already blatant even in the very first episodes. It's just great to have another change of POV, and seeing Naturals getting finally what they had coming for years.

It's in episode 30something, though, when the series goes immediately to shit.

>>

They're not, but when they do appear they're legitimately painful to the eyes.
>>
Destiny Remasters actually look alright, it's SEED that looks like ass.

Was Final Plus incorporated into the Destiny SE?
>>
OP here again, so is there any reason why I shouldn't just watch the movies for SEED?

I gather that the series is full of flashbacks, recap episodes, repeated animation and various other forms of padding, so it seems like it would be good to skip all of that?
>>
>>13899425
It's like watching Zeta movie, you will understand main story but it's better to watch TV version.

>Which is least painful
...You do know if you didn't watch any episode you don't have right to talk down about it unless you like to act as one of big kids, right?
>>
>>13899425
the SEED compilation movies were created as a quickie reference for fans before Seed Destiny. They are there as a refresher not a substitute. Just as bad as the Zeta movies
>>
>>13894080
The movies are absolute shit and make no sense if you haven't seen the series.
But they're still preferable to actually watching a hundred episodes of shit.
>>
>>13899125
To be honest the rest is much easier to the eyes than the original release. Balance. There's no right answer for which to watch, it really depends on what kind of hardware you're gonna use.
>>
>>13899425
>I gather that the series is full of flashbacks, recap episodes, repeated animation and various other forms of padding, so it seems like it would be good to skip all of that?
You know what it would be a better idea, OP? To NOT WATCH THIS EXCREMENT. It has absolutely nothing of value in story, animation, design or even the most basic concepts of entertainment. To >>13899563, I did watch it, all 50 episodes, so I have all the right in the world to "talk it down"
Your stubbornness is incomprehensible to me.

>>13899563
>>13899580
Whatever loss of information there's in the Special Editions is not really a serious deal, especially compared to Zeta's movies.
