IBO actually has decent characters with proper motivations, and the political drama is present without being retarded. There is less robot fights than usual, but new mechs get shown off each time, and the main mechs have usually been amazing (pic related).

You are right, they don't have motivations. I guess Kudelia's motivation to lead a revolution never actually exhibted. Except for it being the main plot point of the whole show. They have dedicated an entire two episodes just so her fembutler can have an emotional death. Orga's motivation is never really clear either. He never does anything that even hints that he believes that the people in Ikkaden are his family and he wants them to stay alive. Even though he constantly has to order them to do things that can make them dead. Akihiro is motivated to find his long lost brother. When long lost brother dies, he is motivated to be the best gundam pilot he can be. I admit the protagonist Mikazuki seems to have no motivation other than blindly following Orga's orders. Mika seems to be a weak character, his motivations are not entirely clear, does he love Kudelia and is that the reason why he ignores Orga's orders or is he finally breaking out of his autist shell and learning to love the bomb. Ein's motivation is obvious, he wanted to be a mecha pilot because he is half earthling and half martian. Then he finds motivation when his mentor dies a samurai death of honor and farts. Gaelio's motivation is a bit weird, he seems carefree but he is also highly motivated by pride and a sense of justice that even he does not follow through with. The Chocolate Man motivation for doing what he is doing is probably similar to Char Azanable's, but we are not entirely sure. That motivation has not reveled itself to us.

There was foreshadowing in previous episodes. She hide that she was communicating with some shady person from Kudelia. We never know why, until those two episodes. One episode she gets a message saying to kill Kudelia, the next episode she dies. She is motivated and is motivation.
