Gaia Gear is a story set in the future of the Universal Century timeline, specifically in UC 0203.
Once more, the governments of Earth and its space colonies are at odds and resolve their differences

So, all this time, any Oldtype could've used any of the psycommu systems we've seen throughout the UC? At first, I thought the idea was completely unprecedented, but in an archived thread (http://boards.4chan.org/m/thread/13845309/answer-me-unicorn) someone mentioned that the Doven Wolf had a psycommu system modified for Oldtype use. But in this drama, it doesn't mention the Bromb Texter's psycommu being modified for Ul, Ul is just using the psycommu as if he were a Newtype. Has that ever been brought up prior to Gaia Gear?

I would imagine it's more a case that if the system became advanced enough an oldtype could use without modification either to himself or the system specifically to enable said oldtype's use and not that oldtypes could use them all along and just didn't for...reasons. The Turn-X has a psycommu system and Gym manages to use it just fine too by the way, despite being an oldtype. He confirms in show that it has a psycommu too, it's not just a manual or Black History thing.

In the broadest sense, yes, the general outline is the same. But there are pretty major differences. In the book, Gaba Suu dies before telling Affranchi something, and then Affranchi leaves his island on his own accord. Metatron is also originally called "Zi Zeon" or "Z Zeon" or "Ji Zeon", and is renamed Metatron sometime later. I'm guessing Affranchi renamed it to move away from Zeon's legacy, just like how he's not Char Aznable, he's his own man. (I'm guessing the audio drama keeps it Metatron throughout because switching names around is tricky for listeners.)
Of course I've never seen the book with my own eyes, I'm basing this off online summaries and stuff. Speaking of that, on motocompo's YouTube page, there's this video, 連載 (Serialization):

Is this the entirety of Gaia Gear, or is it just a fraction of the novel, including pages with illustrations? Seems kind of sparse if that's the whole thing, but that's me trying to estimate length in a foreign language.
