Next star trek should be about a colony migratory fleet to the Delta quadrant using Voyagers star charts. Will be like DS9+TNG+VOY all in one!
>>
Fucking nerd.
>>
Next Star Trek should be a moe fanservice slice-of-life with no male characters.

In space.
>>
Would they let the federation break trans warp barrier in the next trek?

Oh sweet, a Star Trek thread.
Anyone played the mobile game, Star Trek Timelines? It's fun but goddamn, I hit a point where my characters can't complete missions. That must be a paywall.
>>

Totally, they can bring that catgirl in from the TOS animated series and make bank. This shit writes itself.

I want to see a star trek that takes place after a major war between the federation and a new enemy. It can focus on the main ships transition from a total war state to the exploration of a new sector of the galaxy. Bonus points if the federation is the loser of the war.
>>
I want a militaristic Star Trek. A whole series that is like the Dominion War Arc of DS9.

That's literally

1. Star Trek: New Earth
2. Star Trek Voyager post-Dominion War novels

Star Trek New Earth was a 6 book series set between Star Trek I and Star Trek II where the Enterprise leads a literal "wagon train to the stars" on a colonization mission into a remote region of space. They deal with natural phenomena that render most of their modern technology, like sensors and warp drives, almost useless, end up getting involved in an "Indian" war between two small space empires, and have a "gold rush" on a super-rare quantumphase element. It leads into Star Trek: Challenger, which was cancelled because Star Trek Enterprise was going to retcon all this, but that was basically DS9 on a starship built from scrapped starships on the frontier.

The Star Trek Voyager novels set after the series and the end of the DS9 novels have Voyager leading a fleet of starships back into the Delta Quadrant to deal with the fallout that comes from the Borg evolving into creatures of pure consciousness and disappearing from the galaxy.
>>
>>13888050
I'd rather not go militaristic. Star Trek started out optimistic, and is best when it's being optimistic. DS9 (As good as some of it was) and especially the most recent film completely shit all over what Star Trek should be.
>>
>>13887917
It's a bug. Since everything is stored server-side, if you're characters are on missions when the server resets they freeze and are unusable unless you contact Support. Same thing happens in Star Wars Uprising.
>>
>>13888042
Isn't that literally just Online?
>>
>>13888100
Online is one of those Semi-Cannon things that stays cannon until something, like a series, bumps it out.

That's the great thing about the ST Prime universe, none of this star wars levels of multi cannon. TV/Films are cannon, every thing else is semi-cannon works until something known to be official, like a TV series or film bumps them off.

Are we going to get a minority captain? A non-white female, maybe? I bet there's going to be a lot of gay stuff.

I doubt it, it's going to have to be pretty pandering at least initially. I say this because it's being used as a launch series for their streaming set up. Right now it's about collecting Gold-Pressed Latinum not pushing the envelope.
>>
>>13888378
Star Trek fans of all people should be the ones who would give zero fucks about that.
As long as the actor/actress was decent, I wouldn't care if the captain was a transgender in a relationship with an klingon hermaphrodite.
>>
>>13888665
>klingon hermaphrodite
hab sosli' quch, I can hear it now. I'll be honest that shit is funny.
>>
>>13888378
I really hope if they do, they just do it like DS9 did. Where we're not constantly lampshading it as something different and special to mop up the accolades but just writing a normal attempt at a relationship as a subplot.
>>
>>13888094

And what Star Trek was has no place in 2016.

No one buys that kind of optimism in media anymore, it would rightfully be disregarded as infantile. I know what Trek fans want, but that doesn't work anymore. No one thinks that we'll all become some great post-racial post-scarcity society where the loving embrace of the government will unite us now.

People can get mad that everything is cynical now, but there's a reason for that, societal events have shaped what our pop culture evolved into. Militaristic and cynical is the only way people would accept Trek as anything other then another version of the X-Files miniseries, something so obsessed with its past that they refuse to accept that time has passed.
>>
>>13888701
>I know what the people want!

> "Fury" (teleplay with Taylor)
> "The Haunting of Deck Twelve" (teleplay with Mike Sussman & Biller)

it could be a lot worse

Remco had a history of acquiring licenses and using them to sell their own toys based on franchise recognition. Most of the stuff in the Star Trek Remco line is from another toy series, but with "Star Trek" plastered on it.

Until Voyager came along and used the term trans warp again I always assumed that all warp drives in TNG onwards were trans warp, but they didn't need to refer to them as such because that was just the standard now. It made perfect sense, the Excelsior test in 3 only failed because Scotty messed with it. But no, Voyager had to come along and ruin the concept of warp drive just as it ruined many things.

>none of this star wars levels of multi cannon
Even in Star Wars that official 'canon' policy meant nothing. As far as the movie scripts are concerned no EU shit ever happened. That was just fan appeasment. 'Sure your shitty fanfic is canon if it makes us money.'

With Star Trek, and indeed most things, it's the same but without the official fan appeasment, TV and movies happen, nothing else does. Nothing gets bumped off, books were never considered 'canon' to begin with. Star Trek Online has a special status because it's the only big budget ongoing Trek thing, but there's no way that show writers and producers are going to bother keeping things consistant with it so they might as well label it 'non-canon' right now.
>>
>>13889017
Trans warp first came in TNG in their 4th and last encounter with the Borg in the series.
>>
>>13888701
Just because nobody thinks that's realistic anymore doesn't mean people can't still write about it. I for one, would rather watch someone make something optimistic for once instead of all the generic gritty shit that's pumped out these days. Dystopia and and cynicism have been done to death.
>>13889062
You know what the real kicker is? The new one is decidedly more violent.
>>
>>13889743
Maybe they can make federation a little less socialist

It's been a long road
Getting from there to here
It's been a long time
But my time is finally near

And I can feel the change in the wind right now
Nothing's in my way
And they're not gonna hold me down no more
No they're not gonna hold me down

'Cause I've got faith of the heart
I'm going where my heart will take me
I've got faith to believe, I can do anything

I've got strength of the soul
And no one's gonna bend or break me
I can reach any star, I've got faith
I've got faith, faith of the heart

Wouldn't some of that conflict with having time to Ent?
also interesting they say
>On 2 March 2009 Fuller told iF Magazine that he is pushing for a new Star Trek TV series based on "old style" Star Trek. In the interview he stated that "I told my agent and told the people of J.J. Abrams' team I want to create another Star Trek series and have an idea that I'm kicking around. I would love to return to the spirit of the old series with the colors and attitude. I loved Voyager and Deep Space Nine, but they seem to have lost the '60s fun and I would love to take it back to its origin."

Given the political climate, I'm not sure if they can handle the hard hitting stories like they used to be honest.

Could they handle allegories to the immigration crisis without taking sides? Granted Star Trek was always liberal due to Gene Rodenberry being a hippy, but with with today's "I'm right, and you are pure evil if you disagree with me" progressive climate, I wonder if a show that revolves around SF allegories can even work without bludgeoning it's message.
>>
>>13901510
No. Because in today's climate, you can't even bring up most issues without someone bitching that you're taking the other side just by bringing the issue up to start with.

Then consider that no matter how they try to show both sides they will ultimately have to conclude the episode somehow, and however they round out the story someone will bitch that it's taking the wrong side because it ended that way.

/pol/ discussion aside, Star Trek will do what Star Trek always did. They'll show the good guy opinion that isn't exactly perfect and they'll compare it to the bad guy opinion that isn't totally unfounded but ultimately flawed. The episode will conclude with the better moral winning.
