So, it turns out that this piece is the only original mecha in "Robotech" or conception of it, too, was stolen from somewhere?
>>13879618
got a transformation chart for that mecha?
Pretty much, considering everything else is just based on older mecha designs from previous shows.
Tommy Yune and crew were trying to advertise a new mech for Shadow Chronicles but it just ended up being another glorified Alpha/Legioss design. They're completely incapable of coming up with anything of their own, not even to sell a new toy.
>>13879747
I mean, if we're going that far then >>13879618 is pretty clearly based on the Ride Armor from Mospeada.
>>13879840
Given that it's a direct continuation of something directly repurposed from Mospeada, it's be pretty jarring if it wasn't clearly related.
Not that it excuses them shitting out unorginality and shit movies over a perfectly decent series like Mospeada.
>>13879747
The VF-13 Gamma Fighter never got beyond a sketch.
>>13881932
Notice these sketches always are on their backs?
>>13881946
>>13881946
Rotating colonies?
I thought the SDF cities were supposed to be an emergency measure to hold the civilians of South Ataria, it's not like they purpose-built transforming warships to carry cities in them.
What's it like in Robotech that they just didn't build dedicated colony ships?
>>13881932
>VF-13 Gamma Fighter never made it beyond a sketch
Not entirely true, it made an appearance in Tommy's "To The Stars" comic series. He ended up copping out on having it fully transform by writing off that the craft had some kind of glitch that prevented it from doing so.
>>13881946
Holy shit! They actually tried to make a transformable battleship for Shadow Chronicles? Are they out of their fucking minds? They would've gotten their asses sued for that shit!
>>13882023
That is the "YF-4". It appeared as a model in the Macros saga. In SDF Macross that was the prototype VFX-4.
>>13881996
The Angel Class colony ships which was the housing for the Neutron-S missiles was to be replaced by the Ark Angel Class colony ships.
>>13882023
No they didn't. Scraped that concept for a non-transforming ship.
>>13882375
>No they didn't. Scraped that concept for a non-transforming ship.
The fact there is a concept of it, means that they TRIED to pull it off, anon. Hence why what I said was in past tense.
This is really all surprising to me since I thought they had abandoned any attempts at trying to replicate Macross designs and concepts in anything animated or movie-wise, especially since they've been trying to Mospeada everything up since that's pretty much all they can use aside from the Southern Cross stuff nobody wants to see.
>>13882510
The transforming Southern Cross stuff had godawful transformations and looked like ass, but the non-transforming mecha weren't bad.
>>13882537
What was wrong with the Sparta's transformation?
>>13882792
open cockpit
>>13882792
The intermediary mode is utterly extraneous and visually unappealing due to failing to properly hybridize itself. It's not half tank half humanoid, it's just a tank with legs that flipped down.
Then the humanoid form doesn't look tanky enough to say "Oh yeah, that thing used to be a tank" the way you can with VFs.
>>13882023
That's the VF-4, ya dingus. Kawamori designed it too. It's even getting an Arcadia release soon.

Speak for yourself. I for one would love to see some SC mecha (especially the Spartas and Auroran) done up in the Mospeada style like they redid the Tokugawa.
>>13879747
It's not like you can just make random looking mecha. You need to show lineage.
Look at this shit ripoff from one of the Gundam UC federation ships.
>>13883755
>It's even getting an Arcadia release soon.
Yamato already released 1/60 of it right before they change into Arcadia. Upcoming Arcadia release is probably a re-release with minor tweaks
>>13887897
>Speak for yourself
I actually don't care. I just know that there are few loud Masters Saga fans who keep clambering for more Southern Cross stuff they're never going to get, because the majority of Robotech fans hate the Masters saga portion of the story and it still amuses me how Harmony Gold still pretends to give a shit about them. Every now and then they get a request at a convention or on their Facebook for some type of SC inspired toy or story element in future Robotech media and the same response is always "Yeah, we would LOVE to do that stuff, but see...supply-and-demand,...lots of stuff we need to do,....BUT WE HEAR YOU, just keep giving us your money by buying what we give you."
>>13888009
>It's not like you can just make random looking mecha. You need to show lineage.
You're joking, right?
Robotech is comprised of three shows that had nothing to do with each other and with completely different tech and artstyles, with the slight exception of Mospeada with the Legioss. Hell, even Carl Macek tried to steer the franchise away from that shit to focus on something entirely new and original with Robotech 3000, by setting it a thousand years in the future. But due to the production looking like crap and the animation studio they were doing business with filing for bankruptcy (like everybody else HG makes shady deals with) it quickly got swept under the rug and now everything is stuck on repeat with anything new just being direct copies from something else.
>>13888010
Please, they were ripping off White Base well before Academy came along.

Yes, there is. A Robotech fan desperately trying to make new content.
Also, nice double trips.
>>13888333
>>13888010
That is not a rip off, its a complete knockoff.
The main body is a gundam battleship, with macross cannons on it, with exia's seven sword blades stuck on it. There are a few other stolen parts but those are the most important.
>>13888520

Some of the designs from Palladium's RPG were originals. See the eighth sourcebook, Strike Force for some of them.

Generation One and Robotech TV fans are stuck in massive nostalgia wankery.
At least Transformers has other series in the franchise like Beast Wars but what does Robotech have? Shadow Chronicles and the McKinney novels. That's why these neckbeards are retarded as fuck because they have nothing else to fall back on.

It's not like the original Invid Carrier in Mospeada was a better design. In fact, the Sentinels ship just seems to be a more boxy version of the original Invid Carrier.

So how much money did it take to make Robotech Shadow Chronicles, anyway? I'm curious because I can't seem to find a single source that talks about this film's budget or any financial returns it may have made.
>>13914442
It can't have made very much, since a sequel never materialized.
>>13888333
I want to love Robotech, but they just keep going the wrong direction and Harmony Gold is just plane stupid. They should just license the other Macross series and release them and the toys.

I actually came into this thread to post those. Honestly, though, the Veritech Car had almost exactly the same transformation as the VF-1. The Micronian Power Armor was a nice "missing link" between the Zentraedi Male Power Armor (Nousjadeul-Ger) and the Cyclone (M.O.S.P.E.A.D.A) but was wholly derivative of those two designs.
