IBO really is shallow as a puddle
It has a lot of ideas that are very obvious, but doesn't build them up in an interesting meaningful way. There is no actual political thinking and strategy going on, the most it get is "I want to kill woman to start war" "what if we don't?" "good idea!" None of these parts have interesting interlocking threads, we don't even know what the old men do in any detail. Kudelia can just phone up a old man and because he is old and rich he has contacts and powers to effect news a whole fucking planet away in no time at all. There is literally nothing more to that bit, there is no how just the story needed it so he has a contact and enough power.
It's even too shallow for most viewers. Generally people want stuff basic but obvious as they find that easy, but IBO is so plain and has so little intrigue it is hard to hold anyone

I mean, I couldn't make head or tail of G-Reco, and the random physical comedy was annoying as fuck. I'm just up for more serious Gundam shows, like this one and Thunderbolt.
I mean, you can't get away from Gundam-isms like the compulsory peace princess. But I'm glad that we don't have non-lethal-kos, a child soldier protagonist who hates fighting, and the other parts of the franchise that got in the way of smashy robots.

Not really. The copious amounts of hand-wringing in Gundam can get overdone at times, especially when there's someone who clearly deserves to die and is spared for no reason.
IBO seems to deliberately avoid this, like in Episode 13. Mika's revelation isn't that "Wow, war is awful." It's "Wow, this guy needs a good killing. That was deeply, deeply satisfying."

Fighting looked good at times and very bad at others. Fighting that low in reenrty yet able to move around a lot was just stupid as was using another suit as a surf board which didn't even seem to burn up that much.
A lot of the dialogue was terrible like "your big hands will surely grab something important"

we got the first mobile suit battle with several opponents at once which was supposerd to be epic but wasnt. It's all posing again, Except for the grunt stock bunshin no jutsu.
The highlight of the episode was the green Graze grunt fighting Mikazuki in orbit, and even that didn't carry any suspense at all.

You know what I really liked in Thunderbolt episode 2? That bit where Daryl first got in the psycho zaku, no words just a song as we go over events. No one tells us what to think you just figure it out and it is framed nicely by him being able to now run again in the suit.

The Isaribi flew by the fleet while they were blinded by chaff grenades. Nothing the enemy could really do about that. By the time they had recovered, it was already ramming into the Gjallarhorn space station and was well on its way far away from them.
Also, you are forgetting that these idiots have literally almost no combat experience. Gjallarhorn has exclusive monopoly on the production of new Ahab Reactors and mobile suits. There are small groups like Teiwaz and Brewers that make mobile suits using salvaged Calamity Era stuff, but they never tried to go up against Gjallarhorn since they're either affiliated with or are afraid of them. At most, Gjallarhorn's troops have dealt with puny mobile workers in the past. It's literaly only now that someone has tried to take on Gjallarhorn with mobile suits and large ships.
I care way more about whether or not Gaelio is going to get Garma'd, which he is because not following archetypes is for chumps, than I do about anything else in this show.

Political influence is what saved Tekkadan from getting killed in space, and it's what they're counting on to save them once they land on Earth.
Also, Not Haman's Border Protection fleet consisted of just a dozen ships and mobile suits, at most.
If they were able to mobilize a hundred ships to quell a stupid riot, rest assured they can do the same if some space pirates or rioters actually landed on Earth, their home turf, and tried to attack people.

They then have to find where it is in that location cause at best they will get sort of where it enters and then they could fly wherever.
