News just dropped of it following the release of Nexus.

http://www.crunchyroll.com/ultraman-gaia/

As much as I would have loved to see KouAidou sub this show (though she will rest happy knowing of these news, I'm sure), at least it's nice that it'll get the next best thing, even if the quality varies.

He's a bit above MSRP now, which isn't the worst. Only thing is that he's a little hard to find for a decent price, and the exchange rate works against me.

I can get a V1 for a very good price though. Might just settle with that one instead, and maybe pawn off the ships...

Very stiff, overly literal. No one pays subbers very well, unfortunately, so it's just kids who only watch anime and manga, never read a book, etc. It must seem normal to them, but it's not how English speakers talk.

When I read subs to my kids, I edit as I go to make it sound more natural.

Supposedly, the only masters that Tsubaraya has have hard Japanese subs. The versions that were on Hulu, likely came from the Australian co-producers. Apparently they had some big falling out due to misappropriation of funds, so I doubt Tsubaraya could get those versions.

Is this the first time that the host is a non-action character? Gamu is a university nerd and can't exactly do much physical work. He' basically proto Daichi

Also it's interesting to see media for once. For all the franchise has, we seldom see how the news report work in such a setting.
>>
>>13869871
Nexus had emphasis on the media, but that was because it was plot relevant. Otherwise it's just typical 'kaiju is here everyone get out' kind of media.
>Is this the first time that the host is a non-action character?

>>13870476
I think the main four recommendations represent the spectrum of the Ultra-Franchise pretty well, you got:

>Ultraman - the original classic
>Mebius - a modern take on the classic formula
>Tiga - a modern reimagination of the Ultraman concept
>Nexus - an even further step... basically Tiga sans Mebius
>>
>>13871017
Nexus is good but is something that should be saved a bit later after someone gets a feel for things. Too early and it'll spoil the hell out of them. Same thing happened to a guy I know who started with Kabuto for Kamen Rider but ultimately refused to watch older stuff.
>>
>>13870935
>>13870951
Never mind, Nyaa is down again. As if things weren't bad enough right now.
>>
>>13870935
I remember somebody explaining the dark arts of ripping CR from when they put up one of the other Ultras.
The copy here probably got lost in the death of the archive, but the knowledge is probably out there somewhere.
I remember it was a lot more than "get downloadhelper and click the thing"
>>
>>13869871
Daigo was an everyman while the rest of GUTS were at the top of their respective fields. In general, Showa seems to favor aces while Heisei often go with average guys or turbonerds like Daichi
>>
>>13871053
But Kabuto sucks.
>>
>>13871053
Every KR after Kuuga are all pretty different from each other though. Unlike Ultraman which only Nexus is radically different.
>>
>>13871017
But the thing with Nexus is that no pother seres is like that. If someone starts off with Nexus and then doesn't like the format of the other series they'll feel decieved
>>
>>13871150
They stopped being all that different after Double. With Drive doing an inexplicable amount of rehashing despite the whole car thing.
>>
>>13871226
Fourze and Gaim are pretty different. I agree OOO is generic though while Wizard is literally nothing.
>>
>>13871267
Gaim was mainly different due to emulating the 2000s shows and not quite succeeding, but that is unique compared to the show around it. Fourze rehashed a lot of stuff from Double. The Zodiart Switches were basically a direct port of Dopant Memories.
>>
>>13871053
Nexus was the first Heisei Ultra that got subbed and was for many (including me) the entry to the franchise. It can make the other shows more accessible for some, instead of jumping straight into the cold "for babbies" water.

>>13871207
If they get offputted by the other shows, then Ultraman was maybe not the right franchise for them in the first place... at least they got Nexus to enjoy.
>>
>>13871281
>Gaim was mainly different due to emulating the 2000s shows and not quite succeeding
Gaim used the more continuous storytelling of the early 00s shows, but it also didn't have the slice of life focus that those shows often had, keeping the focus and screentime on Rider and action stuff from the recent series in spite of the stronger plot focus.

I actually like that combo, so I don't think it's just a matter of it "failing" to be just like an early 00s show. It took elements from them but wasn't just like them either.

I think the more recent Ultra shows are a lot more watchable than Rider and ESPECIALLY Sentai, but I think a lot of the older showa-era Riders are more fun than Ultra

One thing I like from Ultraman is that they usually have good effects and fights, even though the show itself was mediocre at best.

This show is great. Better than any other Heisei crap I have watched.

Did honestly nobody rip Great/Towards the Future? That's disappointing, but at least we have SOME way to watch it, it's not like it's inaccessible forever.

Are there any rips of Powered/Ultimate Hero floating around?

>Did honestly nobody rip Great/Towards the Future?
Nope. For some reason, Hulu discourages people from ripping things there.
>Are there any rips of Powered/Ultimate Hero floating around?
Probably not, I assume that one can only see the older rips, though Nyaa is down yet again and Piratebay is under maintenance, so this will do in the meantime: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpUq3L0TiY4N4e-OJnv7w1g/videos

Previously, ‘livestreamer’ was the best but it could only download the hardsubbed transport stream (which is playable but seeking doesn't work well in this state). ‘Youtube-dl’ supports CR now, and can download the each episode as a softsubbed mp4 (or mkv, if preferred).

>If you have youtube-dl, here's the command (FYI: The files will be downloaded in the same directory in which you're running youtube-dl):

youtube-dl -f best http://www.crunchyroll.com/ultraman-gaia/ --add-metadata --write-sub --embed-subs

>Protip: If you have a premium account with CR, you can include it with the command like this (though this is only good if you're downloading premium/HD content):

youtube-dl -f best http://www.crunchyroll.com/ultraman-gaia/ --add-metadata --write-sub --embed-subs -u [USERNAME] -p [PASSWORD]

>Naturally, you'll be replaying [USERNAME] and [PASSWORD] with your actual username and password. If you have special characters in either your username or password, you'll likely have to put them each in quotes (i.e. "username", "password"), otherwise the command might not work.

Partially incorrect – most of the episodes I saved were contained as .flv files, but it's still H.264 / AAC format, so not really any difference in quality.

Also, this option won't work for the .flv files. The --write-sub option will still write each of the subs to a file of its own (.ass), but if you want them embedded you'll have to remux to mp4 or mkv with something like ffmpeg or mkvmerge.

Chaiyo came to Tsubaraya after Noburo Tsubaraya died, with the forged documents with Ultraman Seven, etc. This obviously fake document detailed how Noburo gave Chaiyo the right to distribute those shows in SEA.

Tsubaraya then gave Chaiyo a letter of apology for infringing on Chaiyo's claim to distribute those series. The forged document wasn't what decided the case, it was the letter of apology. You can listen to the story here: http://kaijucast.com/2015/05/09/05-09-2015-behind-the-booska-with-brad-warner/

The short story is that Tsubaraya Productions is badly managed. Chaiyo is a crook to be sure, but Tsubaraya has something to hide as well.
