I know it's happened before, but this is the first time in a while it's been so obvious. Last final boss like that was the Emperor from Gokaiger, and being compared to any villain on that show who isn't Basco is not a good thing.

It is a less common thing than it looks like. The only shows that the big bad came out only in the last few episodes that I can recall in the last few years are Kyoryuger, Gokaiger, Go-Onger and Magiranger.

I haven't even wached any of the show since 30 and I thought this was incredibly likely since grand-dad revealed that Kyuemon turned to the darkside because of his personal insecurities.

Ninninger actually gave us a really early taste of Gengetsu with one of the earlier Youkai that made fake versions of him, not to mention that basically everything that all of the Youkai did was to resurrect him, except for Ariake who was actively a burden to everyone else and basically treated as such until Kyuuemon revealed she was basically a time bomb. He rarely showed up except as a voice, but Gengetsu's presence loomed over a lot of the show.
