Really what we don't have is an operational time comparison of 00C and 94-1C, we know Takemikazuchis have less uptime than Shiranuis and that 1C has less uptime than a standard Shiranui but which one loses more is a question mark. It makes the existence of the 00C model pretty questionable looking though.
It's also one of those things where the Shiranui Second pretty much obsolesces the Takemikazuchi on paper but then again the Shiranui did that to the Zuikaku too. (the funny part about that too being that the Takemikazuchi is considered ostensibly the best TSF in the world after Operation Ouka)

Interestingly it appears the CGI model can actually slightly pivot its knee laterally within the lower leg armour to get you some flexibility without twisting the hip joint.

Incidentally I guess the F-5s and Tomcats look squat at the waist in the standing poses is because they have some sort of wacky hip rigging going on.

Really there's just some odd issues with interpretation and consistency of the F-5's hips in general and unfortunately I think the CGI model is having to do some pretty serious but relatively hidden clipping.
If you look at the sprites the dark grey waist "boom" only extends a short way and turns into a covered joint like the line art and CGI model of the shoulders rather than running all the way through. But that section is also way thinner on the sprite than in the line art too.
That mostly solves the articulation issues by making that more of a cosmetic extension of the crotch section than anything and the leg pivots against it rather than around it. The implication there though is that if you cheat the proportions less while having the joint function that way then you will end up with a super wide crotch under all circumstances.
The way the CGI model works is that the legs rotate over that section and the joint is pretty low down to limit the width of the leg gap and make the waist appear narrower the further apart the feet are angled. It looks nice but it carries the penalty that there isn't actually enough room in the top of the leg for clearance so it clips behind the crotch.

Note the lack of proper subarm on MiG that places the knife into the hand, it just might be a design feature to eject the knife and catch it in flight. Remember that most movements are preprogrammed, pilot is basically pressing a button and the computer does the whole sequence automatically.

Making "ejecting anything to catch" that is supposed to be in your hands as a deliberate feature is about as sensible as not putting brakes on a car "because it will stop eventually once you step off the accelerator", though.
Theo is just showing off; which makes it all the more impressive, admittedly. The MiG's other arm is thrashed in that scene, isn't it? Older knife-drawing entails the use of the opposite arm. Most other pilots would have to drop the knife from the sheath to the ground to get at it. Sub-arm is so that you don't suffer from increased knife-draw time period by losing any one of your two main arms.

Glad it got picked up again, I doubt my moon rune skills will be good enough to read it before the TL is out. There's a lot cut, and some characters, like Beatrix, Theo, and Gretel are completely different. Almost everything about the stasi has been changed too (like most of the scenes that villainize them are anime original or contradict canon), so you won't be spoiling yourself too bad if you treat it like an alternate universe story.

I was referring more to people who read Schwarzesmarken than MLA.
Anyway, if you want to watch the anime then go for it. the LN translations are super slow and could take years to finish as whoever is translating it is not making it a priority. You could wait for the Schwarzesmarken VNdemoif you want. It should come out in September alongside the official MLA release from the kickstarter, and they said they might translate the whole game if the reception is good.

The only character to really get consistently butchered hard by the anime was Beatrix, where they retconned her into being responsible for almost every stasi atrocity, gave her many more scenes hyping her sadism up, and took away or changed any scenes that put her into a neutral or even positive light into ones that make her look as horrible as possible.
Theo took a hit too, but it made him more likable, like Gretel, instead of less. His paranoia has been toned down, and so has his dickishness towards Katia (he actually seriously considered shooting her the first time they met just to save himself the hassle of bringing her back to base; later on, he even chokes her when he finds out her secret).
Katia looks like a mentally retarded idiot at first in the anime instead of naive (the LN version didn't spit out why she came to the DDR immediately, hides her secrets, ), but she's kinda improving.
Lise is arguably more evil (she might be trying to get Katia hurt/killed, whereas in the VN/LN they're pretty good friends)
Iris hasn't actually had that much changed about her (except for shooting Jurgen herself), they've just removed a lot of what made her compelling and likable, so she comes off as boring and bland.

Katia's characterization wasn't... entirely butchered, Theo blatantly committed treason in front of her by rambling about the Stasi so it sort of makes sense that she sees him as somebody to trust. I'm not even going to try to explain Sylwia's beatdown or the rushed photo burning, I'm just going to say they're unfortunate casualties of the one cour format. Another anon pointed this out, but it is a little interesting to note that the rationale behind Sylwia laying a beating on Katia was probablyher talk about 'comrades', which would be a real sore point for somebody like Sylwia, who was betrayed by one of her comrades.
Lise becoming more twisted was an unfortunate given after episode 1 changed Beatrix from a manipulative seductress to a violent thug. I'm bracing myself for the Stasi funhouse, there's gonna be a lot of anger.
