I'm on the fence about starting this. Infinite Stratos was a guilty pleasure for me, well S1, at least. S2 was fucking garbage. Is it more like Infinite Stratos S1? Does the MC have a semblance of a personality or just another 1 dimensional idiot with the denseness of a neutron star?

I was in your exact same situation, and I decided to give it a try.
So far I like it better than IS S1. I think there has actually been action in every ep so far. But I doubt they can keep up the pace though. And though I don't like cg, I have to admit its better executed than some other /m/ shows i've seen.

I disliked how they introduced the "Black Hero" so early in the Anime version instead of having Lux get a bit more set up instead... And then basically say nothing about it afterwards, and continuing the plot like nothing happened.
They should have save the black hero intro for like episode 5 or 6.

True, but because of the early introduction, and not changing the plot to have any character react to it, is just a failure overall.
Because this of course is the highest of art forms and story and plot are the top priority.
