I recently watched the movie for the first time. While I can understand why people were turned off by the acting and that the effects nowadays to feel dated, but does anyone feel that if G-Saviour was an OVA, would it have been better received by Gundam fans?

desu, it's a guilty pleasure of mine. Though pretty much everything is bad, it has a certain 'the room' charm to it. I actually loved the designs for the mechs and considering it was a straight to TV movie from an unknown foreign country for the time, I can get past most of its faults. I do find the CG charming in a bad way.

As with gundams track record with OVAs, they're usually good for mech porn, but ultimately lack the depth/connection that some of the series can hold. Though I find the OVAs very enjoyable, I feel like G-Saviour, or rather any late UC be a 25 episode series.

In terms of story and shit? Maybe depends on, for me, probably not, just felt disconected from everything and not really tied to the UC which was my biggest complaint about it. Apparently the novel rectified this according to some but I don't speak moon so I've never read it.

For quality? It'd have improved it greatly and may be one of those OVA's that'd be liked alone on the animation quality. I mean I like the G-Saviour design outside of the movie honestly and it being properly animated would do it wonders.

Also it'd be easier to throw in the G-Saviour 2 and 3 from the games to shill more kits, and seeing them outside of just the game would have been cool.

It isn't a good movie by any means, but yeah there are gundam instalments that are as weak and in cases worse like Destiny

If it was an OVA with great animation people would forgive it like they do 0083

Fuck the haters, I liked it.
Not in a "guilty pleasure" way, I actually liked it. Sure, it was a western canadian live action movie, but it was a lot more GUNDAM than I expected. Beam sabers, mobile suit meelee combat, and all. The only thing the left out was the newtype myth, and I'm not really bothered by that.
Plus the G-Saviour itself looks pretty sweet, especially SPACETHRUST mode and rollerblade mode.
