I liked it a lot too despite everything I read about it prior to watching it. I think it's very much a show about the journey and not the destination. I thought it was cool how they didn't just get back to space in just a few episodes but actually had to trek halfway around the fucking world.

There's an actual Starship Troopers anime that's pretty good. Not much action in it though (it's actually the most accurate adaptation of the novel). Good luck finding it though, it's pretty rare.
Also look up All You Need Is Kill. There's no anime, but the manga (and even the light novel) is really good. If you're not aware, it's the series that Edge of Tomorrow was adapted from. The source material is a lot better than the movie (although the movie still turned out pretty good for being a live action anime adaptation).

The Muv-Luv visual novel series really is as close as you're gonna get and even shares a few of the same sfx. Being a fan of bugwars since BG, ML and SST while trying to find more for years now i say it's definitely a must read.Be aware though it's a series that rewards you for the long hall and regarding how unspoiled you are.
