What are some mecha anime/manga with the same level of quality and brutal, visceral fights as NGE?

Escaflowne seems to fit those two criteria, but I was wondering if /m/ has any suggestions of shows I might not know of.

Front Mission Dog Life/Dog Style ramps up the brutal viscerality sometimes.

Mobile Suit Gundam 0083 and 0080 feature some of the most intense fight scenes in all Gundam (OVAs generally do I suppose).

Sidonia? Fuck I don't know. They mostly fight giant penis monsters in that, so you can imagine what happens to best girl.

>Front Mission Dog Life/Dog Style

Whoa, this looks pretty sick, thanks.

>Mobile Suit Gundam 0083 and 0080

Already seen 'em, but yeah, they're exactly the type of thing I'm looking for, you have great taste, anon.

>Sidonia?

As in Knights of Sidonia? I tried, but I just can't into CGI, it just looks weird to me.
>>
there's a whole board for anime recomendations
>>
>>13761877

Indeed, and there's also a whole board for mecha too! Isn't that nice?
>>
>>13761848

The CGI isn't so much the problem as the framerate

Whoever thought doing a show at 2 fps was a good idea should have been shot

Where is this board?

Getter Robo Armageddon. Ken Ishikawa's manga is what influenced Anno anyway.

That looks fucking awesome. Should I give the original Getter manga a read before watching this?
>>
>>13761960
yes
>>
>>13761960
It's not needed but yes it's still a great series

The manga helps, because Armageddon is set in an alternate continuity and universe that takes from Go and up.

So if you read the manga, read it all, just don't stop with the original.
>>
>>13761814

Nothing does brutality or visceral in mecha better than F91, but judging from your responses you've already seen it.

Too bad it was shit other than that
>>
>>13763108

Thanks! It definitely sounds like something I'd enjoy. I stray away from Super stuff, but Getter sounds pretty metal.

>>13763141

Yup, agree 100%. I've seen most of the worthwhile Gundam stuff, but thanks for the suggestion anyways.

>I stray away from Super stuff
Evangelion is technically a super, and Anno himself said he partly based Eva on Mazinger.

And if you want metal, you haven't heard of Mazinkaiser SKL?

From my experience, Getter and Mazinger are far more brutal as a series than your average Gundam entry, Tomino or not.
>>
>>13763204

Alright, I'm in.

Which series are worth watching/reading?
>>
>>13763220
Other than Armageddon, two more Getter ovas were also produced.

Shin Getter Robo vs Neo Getter Robo, and New Getter Robo.

But I would still recommend the manga over them.

For Mazinger, it's a different can of worms, so I'd suggest you go read up on the wiki.

>tfw the show could have been the best Getter anything if Imagawa didn't get booted

At least the invaders stayed cool the entire time
>>
>>13761814
Genocyber , M.D.Geist , Armored Trooper Votoms:Roots of ambition.
>>
>>13763294
Cool, but not AS cool. They were certainly nerfed.
>>
>>13763294
Imagawa didn't bring us Black Getter.

And Jun Kawagoe still made it a great show all around.
>>
>>13763294

After seeing Shin Mazinger Z-Hen, I don't believe this for one second.

The answers to all of the mysteries set up on the first three episodes would have been just as gigantic of ass-pulls as they ended up being in the final product, but Imagawa would have expected the audience to actually give a shit and be shocked by all of this bullshit. He would also have spent entire episodes on people looking aghast and expressing amazement just to drive it home, followed by four episodes of recap in case you didn't get it the first time.

Kawagoe just accepts the bullshit and moves on because he knows you came to see awesome robot fights.
>>
>>13763294
>Imagawafags are this delusional
It's still the best Getter anything by a long shot anyway, especially considering the other OVAs
>>
>>13764681
>>13764688
I like both Kawagoe and Imagawa,

I feel sad for you lot.
>>
>>13764962
I just want the two to work on a show together.
Imagawa can bring his storytelling, Kawagoe can bring his fight direction and maybe pull in Imagawa when he gets too crazy.

Sadly, that doesn't seem like it'll ever happen.

>>

Hey buddy, I think you got the wrong thread. Getter's two posts down!
>>
>>13764970
That's what I always thought.

Kawagoe x Imagawa seem like a great combo.

Don't forget that Jun Kawagoe also has mad storyboarding skills. Even mecha designer Nonaka commented on it.

Seriously, every show of his, even those that are not DP have great choreographed action like EX Driver. Those racing scenes are a real blast.

Here's Jun Kawagoe's drawings on the Lupin special he directed.
