To be fair, they were forced to work together after:
- Dad is branded a traitor and put into cryo sleep
- Brother steals "evil gundam" and is a traitor
- Mother is newly dead
- Forced into the Gundam fight to go after his brother to save his father from his own government

They very slowly started to like each other more as the show went on and they got to interact with each other more... And yeah, sometimes Domon was way too thick headed, but kind of makes sense since he had very little dealings with Women. He was in training most of his later teenage years ( by a master who later betrays him as well).
There was always something else pulling Domon away from Rain. Machinations of Wong, Master Asia, Evil fighters, Friendly fighters, Allenby... He was getting stuff thrown at him left and right. He really didn't have much time for any kind of relationship.
Except for the fact Rain kept getting involved. First of course probably because it was a job and she may have felt sorry for his situation... But after many times of both of them doing things for each other, a lot of the time putting their lives at risk, that tends to make people bond.

I actually love both. the normal clothes have a pretty cool look and really sell the sci-fi clothes vibe from that period. It complements her legs, and manages to show off her looks without presenting her in an unbelievably slutty manner. However, The trace suit is succesful, because it does just the opposite.
