Personally, I'd have bought it if I hadn't first spotted an AGP KanColle Musashi for cheap (relative to the release prices online).

Anyway, I wish we got a competent Nemesis Prime or Evil Prime copy who does so well it actually forces Megatron to team up with the Autobots. I admit I have a soft spot for Nemesis Prime and this particular Scourge, as he was the first Transformers toy I ever had. With his tanker trailer transforming into a battle base, and being a near opposite copy of Prime was the coolest shit ever. Moreso when said copies prove more capable (don't think it happened in the TF-verses, but I do like it in other various Sci-Fi works).

>>
>>13748777
Nice trips and all, but if you think about it like that, you're playing Platinum games the wrong way.

These are games that are meant to be mastered, my friend. You can't get the full experience out of them by popping the disc in and just playing the (weak) story. The point is to practice, git gud to where you can pull off ridiculous and stylish shit, and then make all the rankings your bitch. They put tons of moves and hidden collectibles that you probably won't utilize in one playthrough; that should be a sign that it's a type of game that's made to be replayed.
>>

Just watch Beast Wars and Animated, and read IDW. The rest are skippable.
>>
>>13751816

Headmasters, Masterforce, and Victory do now have a US release, so they're technically not Japanese-exclusive.

The bulk of the franchise is written, storyboarded, and originally-voiced by westerners (although more of them are Canadian than most might think). It's paid for by western studios and made for a western audience. An American company owns Transformers, Takara just has distribution rights in Japan nowadays. They outsource a lot of the animation, but so does The Simpsons.

He ran a 5(?) million year long JUST AS PLANNED style plan where he almost collapsed the entire universe into a singularity to power himself/cybertron. The culmination of which saw pretty much every Autobot/Decepticon around duking it out and trying to stop him.

I don't like when Shockwave is traitorous, since then he just sort of becomes Competent Starscream, but it's really cool when he's probably the closest to an actual robot of any Cybertronian. Hugely intelligent, but without vision.

That's almost always what Soundwave is though. Shockwave also usually isn't quite like Starscream when he is more rebellious. He'll work with Megatron if it plays in his favor. Starscream usually won't.

You heard why, right? They got a new show runner who went rogue, and got a new Hasbro product director who went insane.

Prime was a fucking mess behind the scenes. Despite that I really like it, but I think that's a testament to the writers and the animators. They were putting together episodes in a ridiculously short amount of time because they were always on right deadlines, so the fact that the show was still pretty good was a miracle.

Not him but there is nothing west about transformers other than voice acting and hasbro doing production and making sure it's popular in the west.

Most autobots were diaclone toys and some decepticons even Microman toys.
West had nothing to do with them.

Only after michael bay has the transformers had a significant input from the west in terms of character design and toy design.

Transformers is super robots that turn into things. There is hardly anything more japanese than that.
>>
>>13757531
Robots should not have sexual organs. Additionally an anus-like structure is suspect since the majority of Transformers consume an all liquid or direct energy diet.
>>
>>13757540
>Only after michael bay has the transformers had a significant input from the west in terms of character design and toy design.

The entirety of early Transformers fiction was written by Westerners, up until the line was discontinued in the west. Most 1986 toys onwards were Western designs- Cyclonus, Kup, etc. were all Hasbro. Beast Wars was engineered by Kenner, not Takara, and all the fiction was western in origin.

In fact, most Transformers series are written and designed by Westerners and engineered by Japs. Transformers is very firmly a both Western AND Eastern property.

>Most 1986 toys onwards were Western designs- Cyclonus, Kup, etc. were all Hasbro.
The '86 movie designs proper were by the cartoon staff before the toys, and the head designer for that was a Filipino guy.
>>
>>13757540
The setting and character information was by the western staff, which should be obvious as the cartoon aired in the U.S. months before Japan.
>>
>>13745834
scummy marketing 101 anon. Realse a low budget movie with the same title/ premence (most of the time) as the next big blockbuster movie about to be realsed. And then realse around the same date in hopes of tricking old cunts to buying the movie for little jimmy. Its what the Asylum has always been doing.
>>
>>13757540

Armada is on the whole not a very good cartoon, but it has a lot of really excellent ideas and characters.

A Starscream who becomes and Autobot and redeems himself hasn't been done since, and things like Sideways playing both sides, Scavenger being a double agent, and that car guy who was an ex-Autobot left to die by his friend were all cool stories that didn't get explored as much as they should have.

I think my favorite Armada character comes down to Demolishor, though. He's not to bright, he's only good for blowing things up, and he's pretty much the lowest rung on the Decepticon totem pole. There's an episode where all the 'cons are at base and everyone has gone off to their corners to scheme against each other, and Demllishor is just wandering the halls trying to clean up the mess all the others left all over the base because nobody else is going to do it.

He's just the simple put-upon enlisted soldier in an army full of mad generals.

Plus his tank treads become Jackboots.

I just marathoned the game and good lord was that one of the highlights. It was like that one fight in ZOE 2, but without the basic decency of a lock-on camera and an overpowered upgrade.
I played through it as Optimus first, and I plan on playing through as Grimlock next. I love the fact that he has grapple moves, even if those won't be useful on some enemies and bosses, and his running in Dinosaur mode is the best thing.
>>
>>13781437
I loved Demolisher's arc in early Energon, where he's working with the Autobots and later torn between his loyalty to Megatron and the comradeship he's formed with the Autobots and humans.

Then he gets mindwiped and turned into a dumb henchman who acts like a monkey. Goddammit Energon, why did you flush any potential you had down the fucking toilet?

We've already got every mold that makes up Leokaiser from other Combiner Wars figures. He'll be good.

The only problem is that Leozack supposedly has a weird altmode that's supposed to be Deathsaurus, and the Brawl mold has a fucked up waist that might get retooled.

>>13788116
It really wasn't though. Animated was more lighthearted but it definitely wasn't a gag show.

What they did was consolidate everything people really liked from other series into one continuity, with a more focused cast. The things people complain about, like the human enemies, were done to save the Decepticons for important things, since they stop being imposing once you beat them every week.

It was also the last time we were able to have an Optimus who was anything other than a bland Messiah figure (except for Bay Prime obviously, who is a psychopath.)

Fucking Willis man, what a frustrating a guy.

He had a good period when he was coming out of his fundamentalist christian youth period in the mid-2000s, back when he was still doing It's Walky and was mainly just interested in telling good stories.

I generally wonder what the fuck happened to turn him into such a raging tumblr stereotype.
>>
>>13803490
What is Willis' deal exactly? I haven't been keeping up on him.
>>
>>13803490
i only know him through his comics with shattered glass ravage, whats so bad about him?
>>
>>13803708
>>13804121

Couple of things.

First, Willis has been a webcomic author since the days of internet 1.0. He's done several full series, but it was during his time doing Shortpacked! (2008ish-2013 or so i'd say) that he became known for using his comic as a way to lambast the Transformers Collectors community for being difficult to please, swift to complain, and generally having a severe lack of understanding in the basic economics behind the toy business and a completely off-based sense of nostalgia for original figures against modern ones. He's stated such "Controversial" opinions as third party TF designers being thieves, plastic being okay, and so on all through the comic.

Frankly i'm all for that, as TF collectors are some of the most autistic manchildren this side of 4Chan. But he /also/ became much more of a social justice crusader during this time, using the comic as a soapbox to complain about whatever was going on in comics, transformers, nerd culture or just plain real-life as it applies to sexism, racism, and homo- or transphobia.

His current webcomic is a new college series that occasionally dips into whole arcs about that kind of crap and he himself is just incredibly insufferable and sanctimonious about the whole damn thing.
>>
>>13804333

He's a very "my way or the highway" guy, I've interacted with him a few times before. He used to be more normal on forums and stuff but now he'll just mock anyone who disagrees with him and block them. His old IRC hangout actively dislikes him now despite them being good friends years ago.
>>
>>13804333
>third party designers are thieves
and i just lost any respect for him. the first couple of things make sense like manchildren not understanding toy development.

Is Beast Wars worth a watch now?

I never caught it when it was on, but I've wanted to get into Transformers more recently. I can deal with bad animation most of the time, hell the original is an easy watch, but there's something about late 90s/early 2000s CGI animation that's so off-putting.

Animation's aged incredibly poorly. The plot, when it gets focused on, is one of my favorite Transformers plots. There is a lot of filler though, one could argue some of it doubles as character episodes however.

Did I mention the casting choices were perfect? David Kaye nails it. The fact that he went on to do Animated Prime really shows how much range the guy has.

Just finished Super God Masterforce.

God Ginrai is the greatest. Optimus Prime with a rocket punch, a shoulder cannon, and a jetpack? Get out of town. That's beyond awesome.

It's also kind of interesting how Ginrai starting out as newcomer and rising to be the commander kind of presages the character arcs for Optimus Primal and Animated Prime, who also started as relative neophytes before growing into the G1 Prime style of stalwart hero.
>>
>>13819584
Yeah, I loved Masterforce, my favorite of the TF anime. Had a nice ongoing plot, a fairly well developed cast (even on the Decepticon side) and some nice action scenes. My only complaint is that some of the other Autobot Godmasters should have gotten more development and the Autobot Pretenders (aside from Metalhawk) fall by the wayside midway through the series.

>God Ginrai is the greatest.

Yeah, Ginrai was cool. Loved his progression from carefree trucker who just wanted to cruise the lanes in his truck to a responsible, but still hotblooded, leader, giving his all to protect the Earth.

There's a lot of weirdness to IDW but I feel like for a while it was the strongest the franchise had been for a long time. We were getting characters treated like characters with Star Trek style romps in MTMTE and postwar upheavals ala DS9 in RiD. Starscream got everything he ever wanted and started actually becoming good, Prowl did a lot of evil for the greater good, etc.

Then Dark Cybertron happened and shit on everything. I haven't read since then but I've heard it finds its footing again but becomes a little overly self-indulgent.

My main beef with current IDW TF is that most Primes are now CUNTS. Yeah I know some people like some shades of grey in their fiction, but damn.
Nova Prime was cool because he was THE one Prime guy that shiver Prime lineage's timbers. The one guy that Omega Spreem referred as a fake Prime because how unPrime he is.
>>
>>13821640
I think that's happening to most of the franchise's fans, and a lot of it was spurred by IDW. There's a lot of people who froth at the mouth in hatred over it, and there's another group who were brought in by it.

This very site is a good example. Look at how threads on /toy/ erupt into a shitstorm of denying that Transformers should have fiction at all, and how /co/ has a gaggle of fangirls who shit up any thread they come in contact with with yaoi. You can't talk about the entirety of the franchise on one board or the other because both boards have a cluster of posters trying to keep the other side out.

I'm not generally one for "truth is in the middle" shit, but this is a case when both sides are being fucking autistic (although the Tumblr side is way worse.)

Speaking of autism, does anybody know anything about the Tumblr girl that stalks James Roberts and is obsessed with Autism? Like, she's directly called James Robert autistic and meant it as a compliment.

>>13821656
My biggest beef is with the changes to Cybertron's history and the way the race works, like the history and the creation of the race. I'm honestly glad they didn't go with the Aligned idea of the Primes (they're Greek Gods and Optimus is Jesus, reincarnation and all,) but I'm a strong proponent of the cartoon's origin where they were created as consumer goods and found sentience. I've always felt like the story of a race and their god being created by another race before making their own destiny in the universe to be a much more interesting sci-fi story than atechnogenesis or a totally mystical origin.
>>
>>13821699

Nah he's a poster on the Allspark. He's autistic but has Opinions and he wants to share them with you.

There's the usual SJW crap but also he's against attempts to cure autism because he doesn't want to see the erasure of his autistic "culture" and identity and wears it as a badge of honour. It was hilarious because he never says anything bad about muslim terrorists on the politics board except for the San Bernadino shooting because it was at a place for disability support so he was incredibly angry.

He's also majorly triggered by any attempt to use or reference something from Armada because he's in love with that show and thinks the western fanbase hates it and any time they reference it they're mocking it (even if it's just a reference).

This is of course the problem because it means he can't hang out with the IDW sycophants because Roberts referenced some Jap TFs (which he reacts poorly too always) and did an arc with some mentally-impaired characters recently which made him seethe with rage at being misrepresented.

So he's kind of left out in the cold.

>>
>>13822029
