okay, i'll bite, since i'm new to the board and I havent seen this after lurking for a few weeks.

where should i start with gundam? the original, first series?

pic unrelated, but i have a couple more lew bionicle girls if you want them
>>
Yes, go in production order. And try to expand outside of Gundam. It isn't the alpha and omega, it's just a shitposting magnet. Fortunately the volume of threads we get means there is still decent Gundam discussion to be found somewhere. Gundam is good, but there is better.
>>
>>13720132
what would you suggest otherwise then? assume ive seen no mecha other than eva
>>
>>13720162
Because a good 75% of posters on /m/ have only watched Gundam and probably only half of it, at best.
>>
>>13720162
watch gaogaigar, getter robo franchise, and mazinger franchise
check out zoids franchise and code geass for some newer stuff
if you wanna watch transformers go with armada
>>
>>13720180

this is a terrible list of suggestions (welcome to /m/ OP)

Ideon, SDF Macross, Xabungle, Vifam, VOTOMS
>>
>>13720125
Production order, so yes start with the first

>>13720162
As another anon said, Mazinger and Getter franchises
Gunbuster
Dai-Guard
Votoms
Patlabor
Macross franchise
>>
>>13720217
>Gunbuster
>Dai-Guard
>Votoms
>Patlabor
>Macross franchise

Can't recommend these enough, OP. Each are great, especially Votoms, Patlabor, and Macross, as they'll show you all the different sides to mecha anime. I personally enjoyed Dai-Guard, but I found that it was like an amalgamation of Patlabor, Evangelion, and RahXephon, and something to enjoy if you've seen a bit of mecha beforehand.
>>
Newfag here but not OP, i was thinking about starting the gundam franchise too but i ve got a question: the production order is also the chronological order of the storyline (i mean every series is set after the previous one temporally speaking, always during the Universal Century) or it doesn t really matter in order to fully enjoy gundam?
>>
>>13720239

It runs practically straight through Gundam>Zeta>ZZ>CCA

everything else can be watched in any order

To clarify, I believe MSG is best watched as a series first rather than the three compilation movies, you get much more character development and action out of it.

Some guys say you can watch everything post CCA in any order. I disagree, I find production order kind of adds some flair to it, and keeps things in line in the case of F91 and Victory, though they're so far in the future relative to CCA I can see why the suggestion is made.

He's also a frequent heretic, not very nice.

I think that may be enough for now. I hope that did the trick.

Notably, Velken, Hugebricks, and NSSD sometimes sharethe resources and tricks they used to build their ladies, so if you look around their pages where they have 'em you can learn new building techniques.

But yes, with MSG, MSG is the first thing to watch. It's a lot of fun and pretty good, so get to it!
>>
I'm curious as well. Just watched The Origin, and enjoyed the hell out of it, even though it was more political drama and less giant robot battles. Where do I go from here? Was it a mistake starting with that? I just decided to randomly download what I could, with stuff like Iron Blooded Orphans, and Mobile Fighter G Gundam. I'm willing to hold off on watching those and start from the beginning though.

The Origin is a prequel.
IBO is a currently airing series, not finished yet and is an alt timeline/universe, no chronological relation to MSG, same with MFGG

All of them are so unrelated to the Universal Century that you could watch them at any time and they wouldn't affect your viewing 0079.

I'd start with 0079 because I like doing things in production order, but it's up to you. Many of the others definitely benefit from having watched the series in production order, though.

Use >>13720263 for reference to production order. Form your own opinions and judgements of shows, and have fun.

Also, speaking of politics, Dougram and perhaps Legend of the Galactic Heroes may be series one could enjoy.

VOTOMS is a spiritual sequel to Dougram, and also loads of fun, because who doesn't like watching dudes whizzing around and killing each other in coffins on legs?
>>
>>13724220
Yea I kinda assumed IBO was some sort of separate continuity, judging by the art style. Wasn't sure about Fighter G though. It's a good thing I decided to check this thread. I figured watching in production order was the preferred way of doing things, but since I have 0 experience with Gundam, and mech in general, had no clue where to start. Thanks for the help.

>>13724225
Funny you mentioned LoGH, just about to finish up the series, and it made me want to branch out to more sci-fi anime stuff. Also have Space Battleship Yamato to watch.
>>
>>13724260
If you liked LoGH a lot you'll probably enjoy 0079.

G is just pure undiluted fun, but it's very different from most of Gundam.
>>
>>13724651

G Gundam is a hell of a ride, but it's not really a Gundam to me... It's more like a Super Robot show with a healthy dose of Wuxia and Street Fighter featuring crazy-ass Gundams.
