Was it ever explained how humanity lost the ability to build Gunbuster-brand Gunbusters/other extremely useful technologies in Diebuster?

They simply dont want to explore far reaches of space now. Probably scared by encountering more space aliens. so space faring technology stop advancing to regressing.

In Diebuster the farthest the buster pilots travel to was Pluto.

the whole point of the show was the fear of growing up and this was represented by humanity locking themselves in the solar system and staying artificially primitive so they didn't have to go out and fight the real space monsters

They stopped using it for so long that everyone who knew how to use it died off and didn't teach enough people in the coming generations to keep it going. So it fell into disuse, then obscurity, then ignorance, over thousands of years until it was little more than a myth.

I think he's referring to the New Buster Shape Memory Super Alloy and it's more malleable properties.

Was that the theme? I haven't watched the series in eons. Don't really remember much.

Yeah, a pretty obvious one, too, considering the nature of the Topless.

Asimov's Foundation series and WH40K have the same thing happen. When a civilization is in decline, you can't maintain the things that ensure your ridiculous technology is passed along to the next generation. No one knows how to build it, create it, or maintain it, so extant examples plod along until they finally break down and you end up with new production spaceships/giant robots/whatever that are nowhere near as effective because you copied what you could understand but forgot the black hole that powered the old stuff.

Not sure why I wrote build it and create it. I was going to say something about not understand the theory behind it because universities and other repositories of knowledge have suffered the same decline.
