TIE Interceptor is best TIE of all TIEs.
>>
>faster and more maneuverable than the X-Wing
>almost equivalent firepower
>still dirt-cheap
>can be upgraded with shields or more lasers with some creative engineering
Anybody can be good in an overdesigned monster like the Defender or Avenger. Interceptors weed out true aces. Only major flaw they have is a complete inability to carry ordnance.
>>
How come the First Order went back to the twintails version then?

Don't they carry missiles in Rouge Squadron 1 and Battlefront?

Aesthetically they're similar, but FO's TIE's, especially the Special Forces variant Poe and Finn took, are like the Geara Doga to the classic TIE's Zaku II, if that makes sense. They're far more advanced while still being relatively cheap to produce and maintain, carrying on the design philosophy of their predecessor.

> even wanting 8 ion cannons and only 4 laser cannons in the first place

Jesus that thing has a weird load out. I suppose it'd be useful if you're going for disabling shots most of the time or something, but it seems like a weird way to set yourself up in Star Wars since I can't think of many times there's a call for that, especially on a regular enough basis to set your ship up for it.

That said, a bit of fabrication could actually make that look pretty good I think. Shifting the X-Wing nacelles forward a bit so they're more in line with the TIE wings and then covering the join between the X-Wing and TIE ball cockpits with a housing of some kind so that they look more seamless along with a coat of paint and it should have a nice look. If you're going to go to the effort of joining up a couple of different ships you obviously have a workshop of some kind, so why not put in that little bit more effort while you're there?

I do love the astromech droid housing in the nose though. I can't help but imagine it permanently screaming as the ship flies through space.

Uglies are mostly run by pirates, so they're probably up for getting stuff intact so they can sell it, including pilots.

I saw TFA last night and I won't lie, I was a bit disappointed that there was only TIEs and whatever the new X-Wings are called. I would have liked to see some more variants like the TIE bombers, interceptors, Y-Wings, B-Wings etc.

But I can only imagine with Rogue One that they'll have multiple types.
>>
>>13723794
Just to be clear the weapons listed were for that Y-wing fuselage with the B-wings. The Z-ceptor pictured is basically a Z-95 Headhunter mashed with a TIE Interceptor and a Y-wing top cannon, so would have four laser cannons of two different types and the twin light ion cannon. It's probably the best visual of an Ugly that has been published that actually has some though put into it as the others are very basic combinations of large parts of X-wings and Y-wings combined with TIE Fighters, or a B-wing with a Corellian YT cockpit.

Not really a TIE though. Even the regular "TIE" bomber has four ion engines instead of two. That thing probably has at least eight.

>>
>>13734137
Yes, which is a bad thing.
>>
>>13734235
Not necessarily, assuming they developed a cost efficient hyper drive it could give a Star Destroyer an even greater reach than before wherein you'd deploy the SD as a frontline warship while it unloads its TIE fighters in the middle of the battle.

Like upgrading a naval carrier to jet propelled fighters.

DIE-wings a best

Yet they still get beat hard by an old piece of shit like the T-70 X-wing, and yeah, canonwise is an only piece of shit, Republic is using T-80s and T-85s, while Resistance has to pretty much build T-70s from spare parts.

>>
>>13736841
Exactly what is happening. They've planned the trilogy to be three parts to one overarching plot arc and are planning shit like that well in advance. Like that female trooper. She's going to be more important later on which is why they barely had her in VIII at all.
>>
>>13723794
>If you're going to go to the effort of joining up a couple of different ships you obviously have a workshop of some kind, so why not put in that little bit more effort while you're there?

Uglys exist because people need a ship but don't have enough parts that match. So the slap parts from different ships together. They're usually junk parts that are years passed their prime too. So the end result is going to be complete shit, you'd be lucky to survive a simple trip from point a to point b, let alone a dog fight.

The only obvious visual difference is the lack of bomb chute under the ordnance pod. The boarding craft was apparently intended to be what Vader and the Stormtroopers used at the beginning of ANH but it was written out. The wings went to the TIE Advanced and the overall concept was reworked as the bomber for ESB.

I don't know. Could be cool to have it wired to fire one weapon at a time in a semi-random sequence that keeps any one blaster from firing two times in a row.
