The whole idea of 7th is that it's a highly specialized very late Gundam variant where the armour has been changed because it was designed with full armour in mind from the beginning. It still looks more like the original than GP01 let alone GP02 and GP03.

The 7th's old profile states that it's the same class of design as the Alex, which isn't exactly part of the main RX-78 family. Katoki's rx-78-8 just looks like a customized RX-78-2
