Hey /m/, lets have a nice friendly favorite thread.
What are your favorite designs? Anime, games, western, Japanese, it's all good. Lets have a nice thread to discuss and show off our favorite mecha designs. I'll start with one of my favorites (pic related).
I loved the cannons and I love how cartoonish it looks, not to mention how little credit it gets in the series, I kinda guess it grew on me.
I know it's another Gundam original design, but what can, I say, I love claws.
And the mono-eye designs are all really solid in my opinion.
So what mecha do you like /m/?
I just love these bastards.
Tougher later on, too. The Soltic's nice but it's like a Zaku lite.

It's weird man. I love the RX-78 more than any other, even though its the first its just so iconic for me
Big O is probably my favorite mech design period, I love those giant pneumatic arms and the industrial aesthetic. Handsome face, too.

I kind of like the 1.5/OYW style from the early 2000s regardless, but the on top GM II style chest vents were maybe the silliest RX-78 design trend we had to put with for a few years, considering they never did turn the original MG Gundam into a GM II anyways and that style of vents never showed up on any new RX-78 variants between Zeta and the first MG. (there was a few Katoki GMs but the colour schemes toned it down in 0083)

Gaplant is another favorite. It just looks incredibly sleek and embodies much of what Gryps war combat was all about design wise.

Qubeley combines the funnel monster appeal of the Quin Mansa that I love with the sleekness of some of the other MS I posted.

I always liked the design of the Powered GM, as well as the regular GM. They seem to be the most realistic and most cartoonish suits at the same time.

Okawara is lauded by just about all mecha artists as an inspiration and his designs and art have sold dozens of anime series. I don't think he cares that some kid on /m/ who likes CG trash dislikes his art.

Jesta Cannon. It's the best combination of sleek + bristling with weapons.

- 4 separate 3-grenade racks
- Shoulder beam cannon
- 4-tube shoulder launcher
- Beam rifle with standard or burst fire
- Shield with a 2-tube missile launcher built in
And it has extra e-caps for the beam rifle in it's arm.

Also call the Japan Media Arts Festival and tell them to revoke the “Lifetime Achievement Award” that they gave him and no other anime artist, ever, for his contributions to the media arts. Because they're also wrong.

These guys know what's up. I can't put just one design on top especially when it comes to Kawamori's AC parts, but those and Yoji Shimkawa designs like Anubis are top notch.
I also have a deep appreciation for Nagano's older designs

I can't say I like them all that much.
For the Delta the gold seems more useless now that it has a shield, and it transforms which makes me think it's gaudy for the sake of being gaudy. IMO
Akatsuki has to much going on for me, and I have never liked most SEED Gundam designs because of that. IMO
They're not bad it's just that even though the HS was gold, and was probably designed to be gaudy I just never get that feeling from it.

There was a period of time in the early 90s where Okawara did very detailed hardcore real type MS designs but that kind of stuff didn't catch on in that era and they have younger guys now, so these days his role is specifically nostalgia based.
I dislike 99% of all mecha designs. They're either super fugly and toyetic or completely bland, samey and forgettable.
However, if it was designed by Nagano, Kobayashi or Toriyama, chances are it makes my dick rock hard. Gampe here is my all-time favourite.

The combat style is what is weird.
Missile pod shield, rapier style Saber attack pattern. It made for one of my favorite fights in 0079

That is true, innit? The Gyan was likely developed before it was known the Federation was developing MS. That and its fancy fencing fighting style are probably why it lost to the Gouf and later Dom as a mass-produced MS.

That was the design basis of the things, really.
The ground type Zakus were simply space MS with their thrusters removed. Since they were only generally okay at ground combat,the EF held for a pretty long time with no MS, zeeks were spacenoid wimpsthe Gouf was intended to be a whole new, if similar suit made by Zeonic to cover the deficiencies of ground Zakus. However, Zimmad's Dom, developed during a similar timeframe, proved to be so superior to the Gouf it was picked as the new mainstay ground MS instead. It also helped that, despite being designed as a dedicated ground MS it was still easily adapted for space, hence the variant Rick Dom.
By the time the Dom and Rick Dom were truly about in numbers the GM had arrived, already outperforming it in several departments. Zeonic's Gelgoog, though outstripping the GM and Dom in performance and already in mass production, never had the numbers or pilots to do much.

The Gyan was developer to work in tandem with the Dom. The Gyan would jump in and attack everything in melee range while the Dom would hang back and bombard everything with its giant bazooka. This is why the Dom's melee weapon was inferior to the Goufs and Gyans.

I'll do that but it's not a big deal if you have to ask where they're from. Some stuff isn't as mainstream and recognized as Gundam so it's to be expected if some people aren't aware of them. Doesn't help Muv Luv is a VN series and those aren't as popular as anime.

Rick Dom a shit. It's turn around time is a fucking joke, way worse than a regular Zaku. GM's can fucking dance around it, and with Beam Spray Guns, can chew through the armour.
That said, I actually like the regular Dom, because the Zaku is much less effective on the ground.
