***READ THE GUIDE***
For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Our next Group Build!
Field Repair
Basically what this means is that rather than the mobile suit being fresh out of a factory, it's quite the opposite. Whether it's trudging through dense jungles or dodging debris in asteroid belts, your mobile suit has seen some better days.
You've been out in the field for quite a long time now, nearly half a year of active duty in the front lines and your personal mobile suit's pretty banged up. What's worse is the fact that there isn't a maintenance bay within several thousand kilometers of your local area that's capable of making any major repairs. Your unit's engineering crew has resorted to patch work and jury-rigging to keep your machine operational. Stray fire might have crippled its legs and arms or otherwise dealt considerable damage to a mobile suit's systems meanwhile some units have simply lost bits of armor and panels to the elements and have been forced to patch weld metal sheets over the exposed inner workings.
In any case it's beaten to hell but somehow you and your team have somehow kept it chugging along and now command's ordered all units operating in your theatre to fall back to form a defensive line against the enemy offensive.
Deadline: March 7

I must admit, it is quite refreshing to see the jetpack on the G-Self.
>>13686749
Doing the DM 1/100 Skygrasper now but I don't know if I should go with the normal Aile colors or the Launcher/Sword colors
>>13686751
It'll be nice to see some well done battle damage as opposed to the muddy smears and random X shapes most people slap on their kits. Looking forward to the results!
>>13686807
>Implying anyone is going to participate
>Especially in a group build that requires modding and weathering when even last GBs condition of "water ms" was too much for people to bother with.
>>13686836
Nah, it'll be fine. Just chuck your kits down the stairs and throw them in some dirt for instant results.
Any of you ever acquire the System Weapon 00X sets to go with 1/144 RGs? If so, any opinions? I Know they're pre-assembeled, but how is build quality etc.
I'm asking because I'm looking to purchase pic related, System Weapon 008 for my RG Zeta for the Hyper Mega Launcher.
>>13686872
The launcher is huge and hard to balance. Vegeta had the solution of adding an Ex-S gundam inspired waist support arm to help hold it up.
And because the pre-assembled parts are assembled in cheap Taiwan/Vietnam factories they often have nubs and gouge marks on them.
>>13686872
I have the gatling gun one, it has pre-assembeled nubs, so you have to clean that up on those parts. Other than that it's a pretty standard build.
You should expect to paint the hand the kit comes with because chances are the RG hand can't hold shit.
Question for all. Currently wanting to make a new Radome for the Xeku Eins in the style of the Zwei. Any thoughts on the best way to do it? I'm not wanting to buy the MS part set. Is it best to just start with a solid block of milliput and sand until the shape is right?
The G-Self is menacing and terrifying. Menacing and terrifying.
>>13686807
I've got an idea for my EZ-SR, gonna use a dremel to gouge out an eye like the exia repair and use a pin as the exposed optics sensor, replace the arm with the shaldoll's rogue's arm cannon and add some sights and a magazine and paint it up in german gray.
HLJ's new years sale is up
i think i can buy a drion-3 for 25 bux
should i go for it?
>>13686976
Yes
>>13686976
Nah, it looks disgusting.

I don't get it.
>>13687000
Nope. Not seeing it.
Also I don't know how to take pictures. Why isn't the rifle in focus? Someone help me.
>>13687013
macro mode on your phone/camera should fix it
>>13687013
You have to change the apeture to a higher number like f8
Which HG looks closest?
>>13687054
lol
Why is the HG Unicorn so... bare weapon wise?
Unicorn comes with the Bazooka, and Destroy comes with the Magnum, and that's it.
At least FA Unicorn fixes it.
>>13687085
because the kits come out as the show suits do, so each time people have incentive to buy the new one
kek. I just realized I never showed you guys this.
>>13687054
Extreme Gundam for the chest maybe, GP02 for the head,
When panel lining a painted kit (i'm using enamel) do you need to be more careful about getting rid of the excess? Cause I tend to be a bit messy when lining and then clean it up
>>13687085
They came out around the first OVA when that was all there was to its armament at the time and they wanted you to buy both of them to get both weapons.
Iirc the gattlings were later released as a magazine bonus after appearing in the OVA and then later as a system weapon set to make them more common.
>>13687111
yes, you will spend a ton of time trying to clean up a messy wash if you do it wrong, and you are spending more time putting solvents on your clear coat which can be bad, try to be as neat as possible while doing washes with enamels
>>13687113
Which System set has the Gattlings?
>>13687117
Would it be a good idea to try and get a very fine brush set then?
>>13687122
Literally the first set they made. Also came with a zaku machinegun.
Unfortunately if you want the double gattling you need to buy two sets and while they can peg into Unicorns forearms you can't put the shield on top because they are takeing up the slots.
>>13687096
I wish you hadn't
>>13687139
Ah, that sucks. I liked the Gatling Gun on Shield look.
>>13687125
That's a good thing to have in general, but you still need a brush that can hold a bit of thenkixture, its more about being careful running the lines than the brush size, the mixture runs down the panel line itself because of the gloss
Honestly its just a practice thing, but try to be as neat as you can because it can be tempting to just slather it on and then clean it up but that takes dar longer and can lead to problems
>>13687096
Fuck off back to reddit.
>>13687169
Your robot looks like it's gonna juggle something.
>>13687157
The FA Unicorn gets around it by having the two gattlings and the shield connector as one connected piece.
>>13687228
Yours look half assed.
HG Victory 2 Assault Buster
HG Turn A Gundam
HG G-Self Perfect Pack
got these for Chrissie from mymum, which one do I build first?
>>13687307
V2 or Turn-A.
Is the RG Zeta the best iteration of the Zeta Gundam atm? I'm looking to pick up a Zeta Gundam model, so looking for opinions.
How does the build/construction/detail compare to the HG, MG, or even PG?
>>13687329
The MG 2.0 is a better call, the RG is extremely fragile due to the transformation.
>>13687329
I'd say the MG 2.0, but that's the only one I've built, but I believe the consensus here is you transform the RG "once". the 1/144 ones are more fragile due to the transformation.
>>13687304
>>13687329
the RG is fine as long as you're not american.
>>13687241
I suppose I could just buy the FA Unicorn, and pose it as the normal Unicorn if I wanted it with that.
am i the only one that is disappointed with hg Barbados?
>>13687343
But I'm American and I have tiny little pussy hands.
>>13687362
Nice work. MG right?
>>13687382
I still like it, a bit less now that I know the 1/100 has a more complete inner frame and greater parts separation.
I'm a big fan of the design so I'll definitely get the eventual MG.
>>13687384
Yes, thanks. Debating if I should put on the decals/stickers
>>13687304
>Picture of gay strike gundam.
Pretty sure I read the instructions, bro. Get your char gundam something for it to juggle.
>>13687388
Considering that it already has a 1/100 ng and a "Hi resolution" 1/100 on the way that seems like it will be the high end version, I don't see an mg on the way for a long time.
>>13687440
>"Hi resolution" 1/100
Is that it in the picture? I was expecting the gold to be a more dull machined gold. And have they completely changed the insignia's on the knees?
Something seems off about it compared to the anime model, love the detail level though.
>>13687453
It seems like they are going the Seed metal build route and altering certain details and proportions to make a more stylized version. It is also going to have some diecast parts and will most likely be a titanium finish going by the promotional pictures.
>>13687464
>Seed metal build route
Meh, I would've preferred closer to the anime model. What they've produced looks positively anorexic. I liked how the HG still had a bit of a bulky feel about the waist despite the slender midriff. I'm a sucker for posable fingers though, so I might get this (looks like it has them to me).
Also maybe it's just the angle but the vfin and the white bit on top of the head look rubbish compared to the HG.

1 for 1/100 Gundam & 1/72 Macross
2 for 1/144 Gundam & 1/72 Star Wars
3 1/144 I guess?
Why can't they just release the AB1-variant from the Wing Fenice? Looks like a good first step, and I want an adapter for the Zeta 2.0 so I don't need that fuck-huge base anymore.
>>13687757

Besides, Mu will always be the true pilot of Strike. And he died at the end of Seed and was dead forever, the end.

Fuck off faggot, Mu flew it and the MG lets you have him in there, the Strike is a great design and your G-Reco shit pales in comparison.

How's the old HG Kapool? Should i wait for REVIVE?
>>13688464
>wait for Kapool Revive
Have fun waiting for something that's never going to happen.
I built my first gunpla today, /m/. It was the RX-78-2 Revive.
Can I sit at your table now?
I'm thinking about buying this and turning it into an aerial support unit/thing that carries extra weapons for my Graze unit.
Y/N?
>>13688466

How about you post a picture

This is an action base 1, clear. See how tall it is? That's a 1/144 HGCC Turn A, btw.
>>13688498
Not the same guy but I just completed my 2nd gunpla. I've got nub marks but I was planning on picking up paint to clean them up. I could use the colours for some of my tabletop stuff anyways. Still need to panel line but I don't have all the right colours other than the grey one.
>>13688468
sure, post a picture at your own discretion though because some people here can be really harsh critics but if you want to better your technique and get into the hobby you're more than welcome to be here. (If you can stand all the shit posting, spamming, and attention whoring that is. I swear it didn't used to be like this, hopefully it will go back to normal one day.)
Feel free to ask any questions, but make sure you've given the guide a good read because there's a pretty good chance that it will answer whatever question you have especially if you're a beginner.
That said, welcome to the slippery slope of tiny plastic robots.

So I'm going to be painting my RG Zaku with spray cans. I like that there are subtle shades of the same basic color.
Instead of buying 3 different primers, or three different green color cans, can I just prime it, then spray the pieces different shades of grey, then spray green on top of it? I already have a few different shades of grey from previous projects.
How many layers is too much for the pannel lines? This is my first time painting a 1/144 and the lines seem thinner and shallower.
What's the best masking tape and where's the best place to find it?
>>13688835
Either tamiya mm/cm or 3mm
Where to find? Online or at the hard ware or hobby shop

>>13688944
>>13688971
A fucked up nub. Managed to fix it though. Wasn't deep, so I just shaved and sanded the surrounded area a bit. There's a very slight slope around the area but it's barely noticeable.

>>13688895
Just finished the 00.
Still needs panel lining.
Man is it fun making these guys do silly things
Might as well take some extra pics while the light's good.
The Hyaku Shiki I finished a couple months back. Didn't do much to it. Just clear coated the gold parts and matte coated the rest, and some lining. Fucked up the coating on the gun though, as you can clearly see.
And a family photo because why the fuck not.
There's a Nu ver.Ka and an FA Unicorn in the backlog that'll be joining them soon. After that, I gotta buy some shelves.
Going to set up a hobby desk for the new year, I already have panel lining markers, good nippers, and an X-Acto knife but I find its not great for de-nubbing. Is there a grade of sandpaper thats better for denubbing but not scratching up the plastic?
And any miscellaneous things you guys think are great for your hobby desks that help with building? And what are you building processes like? With the 3 kits I've made I usually just marathon it in a night but they have nubs on them usually.
>>13687037

>>13689226
I specifically only use 1000 and that works just fine without scratching the plastic. It will leave some residue on the plastic, but if you rub your fingernail on it the residue will go away
>>13689241
No, it's a land-use version of the Sazabi, hence the 'G' at the end of "MSN-04G".

>>13689381
There's plenty of good looking CE designs once you look past the gundams.
>>13689068
nice, but maybe you should add the markings
>>13689400
And even then some of the gundams are pretty solid.
>>13689402
I would if they look nearly as good as your DM ones.
Looking at >>13687304, I'm having second thoughts. The whole honeycomb thing's really turning me off. Or maybe that's just a bad example. Not a big fan of the big, overstylized fonts either.
Maybe I'll stick to the smaller logos and warning markings.
>>13689414
Come to think of it I did actually like those Astray shorts. Too bad they never went anywhere. Like if they adapted that stuff to animation I may have actually liked it.
>>13689430

Thanks senpai. And yeah the ones on the wings are the hardest. I'm thinking of getting that destiny dragon momoko made from the metal build design though.
Pic related, what I'm working on right now aside from robot damashii figs.
>>13689414
Sword Calamity is ugly as all hell. There's way better examples for that.
>>13689226
Wet sanding with some sanding files helps a ton. The Tamiya set is ok from what I hear and very cheap.
http://www.amazon.com/Tamiya-300074046-Basic-File-Set/dp/B000BMUONA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451538361&sr=8-1&keywords=tamiya+basic+files
If you ever happen to want to test out how things look without permanently welding them on, blutack (poster tack) is quite ideal. Pretty strong grip and it can even be used for some masking when you paint.
>>13689186
Dear lord /m/an, clean the nubs off of that Jim! You even gouged the plastic on the side of the torso. Be more careful.

Nowhere near that level, way too spooked about ruining my kits. Wet sanding is something I've never looked into either.
When you guys (or gals) were getting into gunpla, did you start on cheaper kits and work up or just get stuff you like? I'm compiling a list and I like the MG's size, look, parts, and pricetag, but I also fucked up the only one I built which was a Tallgeese.

Going slowly insane finishing FAG Gourai. I keep fucking up and having to redo the torso and have run into dozens of little problems throughout this build that mostly fall down to bad luck (Running out of a certain paint, can't find a satisfying color mix, cat randomly stole a part and got it dirty playing with it while I was at work and I had to strip and repaint it, missed a seam, etc)
>>13690067
At least you don't have parts breaking mid way of building it
>>13689654
Nice kits, but why can westerners never fucking pose their models? Almost every post I see on here or reddit, the models look derpy as hell because they're just "standing up straight starting into nothingness."
>>13690116
There's a reason why he's called Flat Feet-kun
>>13690112
I still need to panel wash and topcoat so there's plenty of time.
>>13686872
I have two of 003, the claw shield and the GP01 rifle that's now a long rifle. They all come with nubs. As good as they look with the tiny lettering here and there the nubs really piss me off, especially at some of the prices people dare to charge for them. The MS blades are good, super detailed and the only nubs you'll see are the ones you leave on them. The funnels are great, no problems there and I still have a few things being shipped, so I'll let everyone know how great/shitty they are when I get them.
>>13690116
is that supposed to be one of those 'good poses'?
>>13690140
no. Just a random pic I picked.
>>13690116
Agreed
One reason I cant stand looking at pics of Gunpla people post online are the horrible poses they put them in.
They buy all these kits, spend all that time assembling them, then spend 4 seconds posing them.
Fucking cringe.
>>13690116
I think they're all meant to look deactivated.
>>13688895

ehehe
MG Victory wasn't as nearly as bad of a kit as I expected. Other than the hips (which could be fixed with some glue) the kit is fairly solid. Fuck those hands though.
>>13690116
you can do shit with static poses though, its more about angles and photography than posesnot saying this is any good though
There's gotta be a better way to do this shit
>>13690247
What are you aiming to do ?
>>13690265
Masking for painting certain areas only. Can't you tell?
>>13690247
There's faster ways, a lot of then, actually, but it'll look like shit.
If you wanna make it look good, you gotta put in some work anon.
>>13686976
>>13686976
You are gonna be painting alot of details in
>>13688805
You at least want 3 layers Primer>Paint>Topcoat before you panel line.
If the lines are too shallow after 3 layers, strip it because they went on too thick.

Does anyone know if the Realistic sticker things for the RGs or even the stickers for the HGs are water resistant?
I'd like to clean my gunpla for this newyear, and am thinking of just washing them with a mixture of water+dishwashing liquid. However, It would really suck for the Realistic Decal things to start peeling off and shit.
>>13688911
>cut out a piece of the runner it came from
>soak/coat it with some solvent
>stick it on the hole
>sand it when it dries
>???
>Profit
>>13689763
Is that also 144? I just built the 144 Command wolf and boy is it tiny with exhaust and piping that explode off it
>>13690221
Now try putting on the missle pods on the shins. The pods fall off with the white cover still attached
>>13690278
So is he masking correctly? IT looks like he used a pencil to guide the masking on the edges which is something I never tried. When I mask parts I always have a leak somewhere. I need to practice masking
>>13690316
No. You should put on a clearcoat then let it cure before you wash them
>>13690247
Use a better masking tape, thin your paints as well
If its cans. Mist it as possible
>>13690376
Is there a needle or something better I can use to cut the masking tape with?
>>13690322
glue the hardpoints on if they are going you that much trouble.
We back?
Fucking Christ, 2 days in a row.
Just started watching Wing since I own one of the kits, are there any releases with subtitles that aren't just from the dub?
>>13690322
>Is that also 144? I just built the 144 Command wolf and boy is it tiny with exhaust and piping that explode off it
Nope. Its the HMM 1/72 Geno Breaker.
>>13690247
Why are you masking off the raised detail parts while they are in primer rather than after the base color? what colors will each section be? are you honestly going to mask the REVERSE of this when you want the second color?

Wasn't really interested in cartoons when I was younger.
>>13690754
Well Wing is shit. Go watch the original trilogy.
>>13690767
I already have, I'm up to 08th MS Team at the moment.
>>13690769
I honestly think production order is the best way for watching. You should really watch Z after MSG bcause 08th and 0080 and 0083 are all Banrise retcons.
>>13690754
I don't care about when you were young, but if you've browsed /m/ or even freaking /a/ for more than a few months I have no clue how you wouldn't know who the go to group for most Gundam releases are.
Always go with EG. If you find their subs are lacking - tough. There probably won't be better ones out there.
WIP on my DM Skygrasper, gonna start with the Aile pack now
>>13690772
Yeah, I've been watching release order UC alongside the new Gundam shows.
>>13690775
EG subs for Wing are just the dub subtitles.
>>13690789
>Yeah, I've been watching release order UC alongside the new Gundam shows.
Oh that's cool! See it would've been weird if you watched Z after 0083 because in 0083 they put i-fields on small nimble mobile armors and in Zeta even the Psyco Gundams don't have stuff like that. 0083 is shit.
>>13690792
The ending scene would've been terrible in comparison if I didn't watch Z before too.
>>13690742
Black tri star leg. It will mostly be black with other colors as details.
>>13690789
>EG subs for Wing are just the dub subtitles.
If it's this one
http://www.nyaa.se/?page=view&tid=529143
Then I doubt there are any better ones, as EG usually uses the official subtitles when they can.
>>13690792
0083 is dogshit if you want things to make sense
But I really enjoyed the 80's OVA style, the music and the mechs.
Also fuck Nina Purpleton
>>13690816
>80's
Hate to break it to you, but it came out in the early 90s.
>>13690823
I know, but it has that distinct 80's feel, regardless of the actual time of release.
>>13690816
Yeah like how did Nina not notice Gato from the very beginning.
>>13690814
Those subs are from the dub I'm pretty sure.
>>13690827
The last thing I need is the OP and ED's stuck in my head. I was really young when I liked 0083, like 16. I had the HGUC GP-01, but back then there was no GP-02 or Zaku F2 HGUC's so RIP.
>>13690842
You need a bullet stuck in your head
>>13690247
Congrats, now you are going have to mask the entire thing again when you paint those details!
>>13690862
It's not THAT hard. Few details I can even use artline markers without masking like those green and blue on the right, and the silver.
>>13690134
>somebody remember my nickname
>tear in eye
I was looking for pictures ofSaitamaand for some reason I found this instead.
I like the part where they tacked shit on.
It's a nicely done hot mess of an archangel mod but dakka-mods are just boring. And it's not done by any of us so it's pointless to post here, leave that to gundamguy or something
