A type of particle given off by the engines of Gundams and other Mobile Suits. When you get a lot of it together in one place, interferes with and absorbs most of the EM spectrum, creating "fog" in space over great distances, jamming up radio ando ther forms of communication, and also generates some EM field fuckery that fries unshielded electronics.
This means everything needs to be shielded from Minovsky fields and is largely responsible for the existence of Mobile Suits, since the guided weaponry that would make them a joke is prohibitively expensive to shield properly. It also makes long distance (as far as space goes) combat difficult by introducing limited sight and scanning range in space, so you can't have ships sniping each other from opposite sides of solar orbit; if you can't see a target, you can't accurately predict where to be shooting (or even know they're there), nor can you use laser weaponry. Concentrations of Minovsky particles also work to block beam shots; battleships, which can't really be armored (since beam weapons pretty much ignore armor) can only defend themselves from long-distance barrages by throwing up their own cloud of Minovsky particles and hoping nothing has the oomph to get through it, or to do much damage if they do.
Minovsky particles are also the stuff that goes into beam weapons, both sabers and shots. Various weapons either ignite the stuff into a plasma and hold it in magnetic confinement or pair-annihilate Minovsky particles to produce fuck-off amounts of directed energy. But as with any kind of charged particle, it can be deflected by another charged field (be it large clouds of other Minovsky particles or something more controlled like an I-Field).
