I hate to start a SEED thread, especially a SEED destiny thread. But I just happened to be watching the opening scene to gundam seed destiny right now after watching thunderbolt on Gundaminfo youtube channel. Man, shin's sister Mayu and his family deserved what they got for stopping to wait while shin jumps down to grab Mayu's cellphone (the only reason for all of this happening was because Mayu was a spoilt little bitch; and because neither Shin, his father, nor his mother, had the sense to either a) slap the bitch and tell her to forget her fucking cellphone or b) pick her up and carry her against her will, she can't weigh more than 100 pounds (very very conservative)

The Asuka family should've been the fuck out of there before that battle ever really hit. For a bunch of masterrace genetic engineers, they sure were dumbasses. It was pretty clear they were the very last people to be leaving.
That said, his family was going to die anyways from the blast - they actually keep moving. Shinn's survival is 100% owed to the fact that he ran down a steep hill and that height difference protected him from the full force of the blast. If anything, they should've all rolled down the hill after her cellphone.

Alternately, if they'd let Mayu go after her phone she'd still be alive. Shinn survived that blast, uninjured, from where the phone was. If they'd all gone after the phone as a group they'd have all lived. That phone tried to save their lives but they didn't listen. Also considering the size of the blast, there's not really much reason to assume they'd have survived if the'd continued straight ahead. But the worst part of it all is the fact that moving toward the phone was also moving toward the dock they were trying to get to, meaning the family was taking the long way to begin with.

I've also always wondered just why they are choosing to run to the docks and not drive. I guess that's pretty easily explainable (Ex. they assumed any vehicles would be seen as military targets?) but still.
