Rey treats BB-8 like a person when everyone in past movies regarded droids like talking pieces of furniture. Also there's many many droids in that bar that you mentioned, unlike in the first movie where people were too racist to let 3PO into the cantina.

I assume it's just another way of showing 30 years of progress/time in the universe. The Clone Wars are now 2-3 generations behind some species. It also depended on the droid. C-3PO was always the long-suffering fusspot that everyone kinda tolerated more than liked, but R2 has been universally liked by just about everyone who encounters him, not just Skywalkers. Rey treating a droid as an equal probably just speaks more of her as an individual, though. She seems to have almost zero friendly interaction with the people around her at the trading post, so I would imagine she'd make fast friends of anyone who didn't immediately try to rip her off or fuck her over, living or mechanical.

It's always been a subtle clue to someone's "good guy" status in Star Wars that they treat droids like people.
Anakin did it as a kid, Padmé did it, Luke and Leia did it, Oldbi-Wan did it, and now Rey does it.
Han, being the more morally grey of the group, is the one who least likes droids.
