What are some good series with robots as main characters? Whatever genre or mood is fine, I just want sentient robots center-stage, or at least as part of the main cast.

If by robot you mean plane, I highly recommend you check out Yukikaze.
I'm dead serious.
J-Decker is really good but it has pretty much no plot and the fights aren't great
Yokohama Kaidashi Kiko is chill as fuck.
Also Big-O features a robot sidekick that's always doing something charming in the back and there are plenty of episodes dedicated to robots.
