It was pretty easy to minmax in BGC if your GM wasn't paying attention. But that being said, it's a decent "light" mecha RPG set in a fun universe. The sourcebooks are full of interesting stuff about the OVA series too.
Has a pretty funny line about the Genom satellite cannons in the "cost" section: "No, you can't have one."
