Sup, /m/. Just watched all of Cyber City Oedo 808 (the UK dub, because I heard it had a better soundtrack.)
Are there more OVAs or series like that? I've heard Appleseed is similar, so I've got that queued up.
>>
>>13649379
Appleseed isn't really similar.

What you're gonna want (even if it's darker and weirder) is A.D. Police Files, and also Angel Cop.
>>
>>13649379
Goku Midnight Eye, Demon City Shinjuku, basically almost anything Kawajiri
>>
>>13649379
Genocyber , Bubblegum Crisis , Megazone 23, Armitaage III
>>
Read the Appleseed manga.
>>
You have to watch Goku. That's like the coolest shit.

Seconding Genocyber. It's a masterpiece. Watch it dubbed in English and keep an open mind all the way through to the end.
>>
>>13649379

Unfortunately, you've seen the best already.

Cyber City Oedo didn't sell well at all, so they never made anything else like it.

Bubblegum crisis

Just watched Goku, and it was pretty cool. It was also fucking weird, though.
The robot chick with handlebars, the psychic thing, the infected swan plot...
I guess I'll just chalk that up to the 90's.

Gonna watch Genocyber next when I have some time, then.

First time experiencing a Terasawa story, I see.

Genocyber isn't "cool hackers hacking cool things", it's Akira+Aliens+Metropolis+Urotsukidoji. It's only cyberpunk in the first third, after that it goes for surreal horror and then becomes a retrofuturistic apocalyptic tragedy.

God I love Genocyber. The 90s at their best. I do suggest watching it with a bottle of hard liquor in hand.

AD Police
>>
Uh, Riding Bean, and Running Man. Not the same as the Western thing of the same name, it's about a futuristic racer his pushes himself so hard in cyberpunk Japan that he literally sees ghosts and tears himself apart. It's about 10m long but it's really good.

Might just link/embed it in the thread for you actually.

click the CC, the subs aren't in the video itself.

It's part of Neo-Tokyo anthology of animation

"The order to close construction site" is a funny /m/ short.
>>
>>13649379
Of more recent vintage were Mardock Scramble & Viper's Creed.

Viper's Creed can be generously described as Shinji Aramaki's homage to '80's action B-movies with transforming mecha thrown in.
>>13651936
>>13651991
Yeah. Back in the day, the Running Man short used to be shown on MTV all the time, iirc.

Is that a radish spirit?

>>13650482
If you're going to watch Megazone 23, you should wait for the blu rays, if they ever get ripped
>>
>>13651936
I just heard of and watched Riding Bean for the first time yesterday. Fantastic OVA. Doubt that they could've done much more with the plot but I still wish it wasn't just the single OVA.
>>
>>13653461
Bean Bandit starts hogging pagetime in the Gunsmith Cats manga.

Shit's pretty cash.
>>
>>13653484
So what's Bean's deal? Is he a demon? Android/cyborg? I figured with it being the 80s they were going for the same teminator motif as BGC
>>
>>13653503
Yeah, that's what I thought too after he punched through a fucking car door but he's just a strong guy.

There's a story arc in the Gunsmith Cats manga where some similar things happen: he gets hit and run, and then punches a hole in a car. It's a little less ridiculous than the OVA but there is an actual explanation for how he can pull it off.

Does Dominion Tank Police and Key:Metal Idol counts?
>>
>>13651831
>>13651848
God I love Genocyber. Fuck the haters
>>
>>13653503
Mary Sue.
>>
>>13654226
Only New Dominion is really cyberpunk
>>
>>13653579
Admittedly, he uses PCP to roll with the punches.
>>
Wish Snatcher or Policenauts had got a OVA.
>>
>>13658430
>PCP
It's a good thing he isn't real, otherwise he'd end up like Aaron Hernandez

I don't really care for many cyberpunk OVA's because they tend to be grim and depressing. At least Bubblegum Crisis was fun.
>>
A.D. Police Files & Bubblegum Crisis
>>
Oedo 808 was definitely cool (Kawajiri <3).

If you're planning to watch Angel Cop make sure you get japanese DVD (much better quality than western release) rips with uncensored subs (jew and US bashing ftw).

If you enjoyed Goku Midnight Eye anime you should definitely check out the manga as it is even more insane. Dunno if any scans are available as I couldn't find any 6-7 years ago, but the English versions can be found for cheap on ebay - definitely worth the 25$ that I've spent.

Genocyber - fantastic first 3 episodes, but the last two can be easily skipped.

Megazone 23 - watch 1 and 2 when there are BD rips, STAY AWAY from 3.

AD Police - great OVA, but I suggest you wait a year for an upcoming Bluray release (I'm definitely getting my hands on that).

Bubblegum Crisis 2032-2033 - One of my all time favorite OVAs (the US BD release is fantastic - BUY IT!), god tier OST too.

My own recommendations (not really cyberpunk, but good shit nonetheless):

Vampire Wars
M.D. Geist
If you enjoyed Riding Bean watch Gunsmith Cats too.

one that feels worth mentioning is Cybernetic Guardian, although it mixes in a bunch of horror into the mix, also while it's one of those OVAs that is light on plot, it's also really pretty, and has a bitching soundtrack
>>
808's easily my favorite OVA.
I'm not a fan of the UK soundtrack. The dub is hilarious, though.

>>13649411
this man knows what's up
Goku was so damn cool.

>>13651831
fuck, I need to see Genocyber
>>
What about Darkside Blues? Does it count?
