The optimum height for the combat real-mecha?
>>13645627
wouldn't 2 legs be impractical in real life
>>13645681
On land? Yes. Unless we're talking power armor, then the bipedal nature isn't a real hindrance.
Height is a disadvantage, as is weight distribution with all that metal.
>>13645627
In a planetary environment, I'd say 300cm is probably the cutoff point where the mech becomes too tall.
Big enough to have a torso cockpit and decent proportions. Scopedogs, Kuratas, Loto, all good.
MS size is okay if the series is palpable. ATs wouldn't have saved 0083.

Sure. If they're plantigrade.
None of these threads ever bring up digitigrade options. Though I think I know why, and it's too stupid to even mention directly.
6 feet
You do not need a pilot, with remote technology today, there is no fucking reason to put a human in a mech, unless it is your very, very slow solution to over-population.
Any mecha over 6 feet is at a disadvante for several reasons, the biggies being a bigger target for enemies to hit, and the enemies can escape through spaces a large mecha could not follow them through, so human size mecha would be best.
>>13645772
0/10 would not watch, not enough collateral damage.
>>13645774
This.
Bystanders not in danger from falling spent ammo = not big enough
>>13645745
Jesus legs and hips would break after taking a single hit in that thing.
>>13645772
Surrogates did a decent job of depicting this I thought during its military scene. I doubt they will look or control anything like the ones from the movie, those faces are goofy as fuck, but the concept is definitely solid and plausible.
The rest of the movie was pretty shit. So was the scene I'm talking about, but at least it was interesting.
>>13645627
I would say it depends on whether it's a skin-type, in which case only around 7 feet, or a vehicle type, which would be most materially efficient at around 20 feet for a biped. Although, if you really want to start causing damage, as big as you can build a frame and move it is the answer.
>>13645627
That looks like it would be extraordinarily cramped for the pilot. Unless they're expected to put their feet into the mecha's legs, which is really stupid for obvious reasons.
Tachi/Fuchi/Logi/Uchi-komas.

About 12.8ft-15ft or so ft.
I think the optimal size for mecha should facilitate its transportation using conventional techniques
>>13645627
Somewhere between Gears from the Heavy Gear universe and Labors.
this is idea for the Giant Infantry style Ambulatory Armor.
>>13645627
I always gravitate towards mecha that are around this size. Smaller than a mobile suit but bigger than an AT. The Border Break mechs, Knightmare Frames are my sweet spot. Generally, if I were designing my mech, I wouldn't go any higher than an Arm Slave which is about 8-8.5 meters tall.
So about 5-8 meters is where my ideal mech would be.
>>13645772
ECM and hackers will turn ur mech against you
>>13645627
3-4 meters.
>>13645627
Two and a bit meters.
If it's too big to enter human sized buildings and cover then you might as well bring a conventional combat vehicle.
It's a safe bet that power armor SWAT teams will become a thing.

>furonto mishion.
that´s rite. perfection...

As long as ergonomics is not compromised.

??
Chicken walkers, are they too silly?

Do you even oper8, m8?
>>13650627
What's the point when beam weapons can punch holes through buildings? Fucking retarded Gundamfag.
>>13650651
It's a joke dude chill. Besides, the point definitely stands for projectile based settings.

400cm is average height for an adult male. What are you, some kind of manlet?
>>13651060
>implying 400 cm isn't king of the manlets height at best
If you aren't breaking at least 5 m, you should still be considering suicide.
>>13650611
A quick googling says digitigrade means you walk on your toes, not the base of the foot.
I still think scopedogs would work fine if we could find a suitable way to power them.
That being said, I can't see a major army fielding them because even stinger missiles are lethal to them.
>>13651087
Why not arm them with something that can harm guided missile systems?
>>13645627
Well, leaving aside the whole "mecha is impractical" question. Let`s see. Floors height in most buildings is no less than 2.7 meters. Typical coridor width about 1.8 meters minimum. This limits practical mecha to about 2.5 meters tall and 1.5 meters wide. Literally - powered armor.
So, he

is quite right.

RPG-7 is ancient, unguided and yet, can royally fuck up an M1A2 if it is applied correctly. Walker system can in no way carry as much armor as a conventional tank, si I would advise to avoid direct fire exposure as much as possible.
/tg/'s already thought this one through.
>>13645681
I don t think the problem would be practical but physical. I don t think a mech of tons and tons of weight could stand on 2 legs without being crashed by his own weight. US human can do it because we weight less than most of the mammals with the same dimensions as us.
A mech IRL would need something like a tank as his bottom part to work properly
>>13645627
What the fuck is a Combat real-mecha? What does it fight? who does it fight with? What are it's power supply and movement options? What weapons does it have?
>>13645681
>wouldn't 2 legs be impractical in real life
Are you pretending to be retarded?
>>13645627
I think FM wanzer's are a good size.
>>13651515
I hate to admit this, but /tg/ has better mecha thread than /m/.
>>13645627
Heavy Gear/Votoms level with patlabor-like application.
Combat will be dominated by automatons and remote controlled bots.
