Direction is good. Except for the voice direction, the acting is all over the place, but that just might be the dialogue writing.
As for the writing, it has huge pacing problems. It's trying to fit too much in too little. Sure its got neat world-building and (most) character motivations make sense, but the characters don't act like humans, they act like plot points moving events and storytelling forward. Oh fuck you old people look young but are actually withered husks? Who fucking cares! This scene can only take up 2 minutes! I just met you guys, but you now trust me so I'm going to steal the G-self!
That show really needed some breathing room. Lacked a lot of humanizing of the support cast, and bellri's deadliness despite his words makes him come off as a psychopath which is probably more an error in the writing than an intended characterization (despite /m/ liking to latch onto it.)

The pacing is what killed G-reco for me and probably led to why so many people couldnt follow it, it has no time to slow down and flesh things out and is just jumping from plotpoint to plotpoint too quickly.
I think its tragic really, cause with 50 episodes and a slower pacing similar to turn-A or at the very least pre cancelled speedrun mode X, G-reco could of been one of my more preferred gundams, i loved the setting and the technology. I dont want a remake per say just cause id rather see the franchise move foreword but i do think the setting deserves another chance.
