How does Exia have overexposure?
Everyone always remembers Hygogg but nobody mentions Gogg. It's so simple and non-threatening compared to Hygogg but it's cute enough that I love it. I never intended for it to become my favorite aquatic design, much less one of my favorite suits period. Looking up customs of Gogg gunpla models just brought out a certain enjoyment of a design that was never there before. The Gogg can be used for some really nifty customs, and the base form is different from most suits and stands out on my shelf.

Billbine is a really weird design. On the face of it it's not that different from Dunbine, but the things that they changed make it look really out of place compared to the other Aura Battlers. It loses a lot of the insect features and replaces them with mechanical ones, and that makes it look more like a Mobile Suit than an Aura Battler. Maybe if there were a ton of insectoid mechs out there and only a few mechanical ones then Dunbine would be the boring one and Billbine would be really unique and interesting, but since there aren't Billbine is just very normal and forgettable compared to the Dunbine. Well I doubt its design has this much thought put into it, but it could if when it leaned forward, the inner torso connection (the part under the black chest armor) extended via another "joint". The Getter Robo Go revoltech uses a similar system to accommodate leaning forward.

What's with those ear spikes? facing them upward like that takes away whatever dangerous look Z's had. Great Mazinger Boomerang is a cool concept but lacks the surface area that makes Z's breast plates look so solid. GL does this better by having V-shades shape as opposed to just a V. And I can't place it, but the top half of the torso itself looks kinda weird compared to Z's.
And what about those attacks? The only new ones are Thunder Break, which is functionally just Photon Beam but with a different (read: gay) pose, and Great Mazinger Boomerang (which is admittedly pretty badass). Rocket Punch can't be ruined because the concept itself is perfect (Turbo Smasher Punch is a good way to improve, as well as the bladed Rocket Punch), and Breast Burn doesn't have the same effect for reasons already described.
And the blue limbs were kinda cool.

I didn't get that impression. It's completely normal for a protagonist to get an upgraded and/or new robot after his old one gets destroyed, which is basically what happened when the Gawain ended up at the bottom of the ocean in the last episode of Code Geass. I can only blame them for the Shinkirou not being all as cool, but as this thread suggests that's also a common phenomenon (old mech superior to new mech).

It's not just that the Shinkiro wasn't as cool, it wasn't as strong. They had to break the Gawain to get Lelouch on foot and set up for next year's mecha, but they also realized Gawainwas far too strong in regards to relative powerlevels. Sunrise blew their load too early, and the gallant motherfucker got replaced by the GM version. And wouldn't Lelouch have had it researched and reverse-engineered by then? Wouldn't Britannia have used the Gawain's developments on their own super robots?

It sort of makes sense though, given that the Shinkirou was not made by Britannia. Therefore, Rakshata had to mix the recovered remains of the Gawain with some of her own gimmicks. The Brits still got to make the Gareths as the mass produced version of the Gawain later, which wasn't as powerful but that's also to be expected.

I still think X Divider counts as an upgrade to X, though, so X still isn't an example where the original is the best version.
