It's not like popularity has ever meant a ton for stuff to appear in SRW. As long as someone at Banpresto likes a show and they can get the license for it cheap it can probably show up. Getter Robo Go TV has a real fanbase in Japan, you'd be surprised. There's really nothing wrong with it for what it tries to be and it has some cool action sequences. Honestly, if you love the design of Getter Robo Go and want to see it in action, the TV series is a great thing to check out.
Obviously it's not the same thing as the manga, but it's still likable. The TV series used Ishikawa's designs for the supporting cast, villain cast and mecha.
The project was first known as Getter Apache and then Getter Robo J. The main mecha's design was based on the toy's prototype form.
The part that's confusing is the three main characters. They were designed by Go Nagai. He also made some initial mecha designs (Mazinger and Getter styled) along with the main cast. Go is Kouji. Sho is Honey. Gai is that Honda from Yugioh.
Ishikawa did villain designs, mechanical designs and his own Getter designs which looked more in line with the Go we know. I don't know which one did the first designs, but when the project was Getter J the main form that would become Go looked completely different while the proto-Sho form was pretty much the same and proto-Gai was similar.

Other than SRW, there's also toys and everyone was wondering where the Getter Go toys were, aside from the tie-in merchandise by Yukata. While Neo Getter received a Chogokin by Aoshima, there doesn't seem to be any collectible version of Getter Go, neither tv or anime ver. That is until Revoltech somehow got their hands on both the license to Neo Getter and the manga version of Go.

Actually, in Daikessen you get a choice to upgrade Go into the final ver (from the manga) or the super version (from the TV series). Go in Daikessen has a mix of TV/manga based attacks.
