Rather than Ultraman Ace, Megasshin likely also was based on "Dinosaur War Izenborg". A brother and sister almost die testing a tank to face the Dinosaur empire, but they're rebuilt as cyborgs that can combine to form the Kikaider-like "Izenborg".

It seems like they pretty much mashed up concepts from the three "split in half" robot heroes.

Also, in some points that image is going way too much by visual identification and ignoring plot elements. Gross Augen's backstory, fusing with a human to keep them alive and them secretly becoming a super hero to face various giant threats, is pretty much straight from Ultraman. They just avoided giving him the Ultraman-like design.

Well, the "Bemular draft 1" design was what they wanted Ultraman to look like before they decided to make him look less monstrous, so it's technically /an/ Ultraman design.
