IBO is doing okay so far but I wouldn't go as far as to to say it's the "best" (yet).
So far my "personal favourite" entry in the last 20 years is still00, followed by Build Fighters.Blah blah, shit taste I know but I liked it.

So far we're at eight different kinds of mechs if you count the regular Graze as being separate from the Schwalbe Graze. Once we're done with the Brewers, I'd imagine we'll see another few mechs whenever Kimaris enters the picture.

I don't know if it is the best, but it ranks pretty high in my opinion. There are a lot of reasons for it, but i think the underlying principle is that, While it is still very much a gundam anime, it is also allowed to do it's own thing rahter then having to slavishly copy a previous one.
It is still a story about the horrors of war, the conflicts between people, and the difficulty off upholding ideals and optimism in the face of a dark, uncaring world, puncuated by giant robots fighting.
But it is allowed to do a lot visually different, the fight scenes are unlike that of the rest of the franchise (solid projectiles and heavy blunt weapons) and there are no superweapons or psychic powers anywwhere. Just a story of very humman characters expressing very human emotions by shooting each other.

This is what I always say about another Gundam series. Hm...
IBO doesn't feel like it's doing its own thing in my opinion. And I do like it and think it's well done, if you've seen a few mecha anime then IBO isn't treading any new ground. It's more or less a normal modern mecha anime with the Gundam paint on it. Which is what half of /m/ was asking for, so I guess I won't complain either.

This scene is why I hate IBO's choreography (at least in space). There isn't a sensible pattern or motion to it, characters just zoom around randomly until they are together for a hit. It is messy and lacks any style
Also on a side note I hate how useless guns are, there is no point to anyone carrying them. They have never been useful yet for some reason melee weapons can cause damage when a bullet can't

Other than the specifics of ballistic physics in a near vacuum, it's pretty much grounded in a hybrid of medieval combat and tank warfare.
You can't land a killing shot out of a certain range, and on top of that the nature of armored combat favors weapons that can either pierce the armor or failing that at least transmit as much kinetic force as possible.

Her activities has made her target of political assassination and going to earth on a political mission that would address the economic norms impossed on martians which forces tham to travel through routes infested by pirates.
Except she has no Idea how hard ofr martian orphans' lives are and being a political target causes death of her hired escorts and body guard. Or economic conditons are so shit she has no idea of rate at which farmers are forced to sell.

First is where are these people guiding her? If she was just being given lines to read there would have to be script writers and the like. In fact her lack of staff in general is odd. Honestly, this is likely the first AU Gundam that didn't make me feel vaguely embarrassed to watch. My main complaint is that the fights are still too small-scale and a little slow.
But after the bad shows we've been getting, this is like a breath of fresh air. I won't comment on G-Reco, because I was honestly too puzzled by it to watch the series. (The other was Build Fighters, which was just pure, simple fun.)
I'm actually pretty glad that with Thunderbolt and IBO, the pendulum is swinging back towards more gritty shows. I was about to give up on the franchise with the trifectra of AGE, the godawful 00 movie, and the pacifist-pushing of Unicorn.
Fuck, man. At least the stakes are understandable and we don't have beamspam.
