So today was the release day of the final Vertical Origin volume. It's been years and it still amazes me we saw the entire thing published and not canned midway like the Viz release.

Just saw today that they bundled The Origin with my other crap and I'm getting it tomorrow.
I'm actually pretty excited about having the completed series after all these years.
I'm way behind because poorfag but hopefully Christmas will help that.

Should I watch anything to make me enjoy Origin more? I have only watched the original anime, but I'm wondering if there's any references that make it worth it to continue before reading it.

Not really, The Origin is basically it's own self contained AU so there is nothing else it can really reference. Though feel free to watch MSG's sequel Zeta Gundam (just keep in mind it's a sequel of the anime and not the Origin). Zeta actually has it's own manga equivalent to The Origin called Z-Define, but from what I've heard it's unfortunately no where near as good as The Origin was (consensus seem to be it's actually pretty bad overall), and is impossible to find scanlations of past the first chapter.

This has been the first time I finished collecting an entire series of volumes and it's one neck of a ride. Yas art is amazingly expressive and his take on the story really fleshed out the characters and universe a lot more than the original show or movies.
Also, origin Kai is a really cool character. Not that Kai isn't cool anyway.

Your thoughts on the MSG novel? I've yet to actually read it. I mainly got it for my bro who's big on reading (and as an entryway to Gundam).Also I'm surprised no one has pointed out I have extra copies of the first two volumes each. My younger sister got them for me last Christmas (she didn't know I already had every volume out at the time). She was super excited about it too since it was her first Christmas where she actually had money to spend on gifts thanks to finally getting a job that same year. I tried real hard to be genuinely excited when I unwrapped them but she saw right through me. Bless her heart.

of all the MS and MA from the original series I'm still amazed that the only one not to see combat was the Bigro of all things(it does appear in a couple panels in volume 12 though), although on the other hand it's also pretty much the only Zeon MA to survive the war as well
I've been having some pretty strict money issues, so I haven't been able to pick up past the first four and always forgot about 'em when I actually /had/ spending money.. Hopefully will be able to rectify that with some Christmas money.

You check them on Comic Walker you can tell a number have been recolored digitally compared to the ones that were originally colored for the release.
