Nah, it's directed by Osamu Kaneda. Fucked up priorities, like long build ups to underwhelmingly short battles, and heroes and monsters just fighting with generic blows rather than their actual abilities, are expected in his movies.
Add to that a writer who hasn't worked with either Drive or Ghost, so you probably won't get detailed battle descriptions from him forcing Kaneda to not be a lazy ass and then you get the supposedly mostly off screen or underwhelming battles of this movie.

I am thinking that Ganma Royalty can grant them, and Sage is royalty banished for not being enough of a dick. Then Honganji shows up immediately after and steals the scene (he gets killed within seconds) and then it cuts away from the fight and to his funeral scene for jokes and stuff. Then Go, Chase and a wildly out of character Makoto go fight at THE warehouse. The fight moves to outdoors and around that time Shin and Takeru "beat" in the past and the Roimudes disappear. Chase and Go have a short "Farewell" moment and Chase disappears.

Isn't that basically what they're doing with most Ganma? They're (generally) named after the summoning object, rather than the actual historical person. I think the only changes would be that, say, the scientist in episode 2 wouldn't be specifically inspired by Edison.
