with the way godzilla is designed?
i'm perfectly okay with that
>>13605183
Anno is writing it. Guy who did special effects for the '90s Gamera movies and the Attack on Titan live action movie is in charge of effects.
I can't see it being anything but decent to incredible.
Oh shit. He looks creepy as fuck. I wonder who else we'll see in the movie.

>the military doesn't even try to stop Zilla, he just knocks over a few power lines and eventually leaves
>>13605686
Oh, like Cloverfield?
>>13605686
That sounds too much like Cloverfield and I bet Anno hate it because he's a nationalistic with a nostalgia for the Japanese empire and Cloverfield is a very shitty Godzilla's rip-off.
>>13605686
>>Godzilla appears on screen for less than two minutes
So like the 2014 Godzilla? Oh boy, I hope we get more dull close-ups on human characters who emote absolutely nothing, and who we don't care about at all, instead of seeing any monster fights. That was great.
>>13605689
Never saw it, but heard it was terrible, so let's go with that.

>>13605696
so godzilla movies in general?
>>13605701
Marines don't like admitting they're still part of the Navy.
>>13605702
Godzilla movies in general have drama between the human characters. Emotion and conflict. There's none of that in the 2014 Godzilla, just a lot of closeup of people looking worried, or just starring blankly at nothing, expressing nothing.
>>13605711
Were they all Marines? That's even worse.
>>13605072
I seriously doubt the movie itself will be shaky cam the entire time.
>>13605713
Human drama is too complicated for the audience, or at least that's what Hollywood execs actually believe
>>13605183

>>13605679

>>13605679

>>13605697
I thought cloverfield was good.
>>13605686
Those are almost all hollywood tropes. It ain't gonna fly in my Nippon films
>>13605725
Look it up on Youtube. Earth Defense Widow.
>>13605721
The thing is, the movie was clearly meant to be about drama and focus on the feelings of the humans, but they forgot completely to add any kind of character arc or conflict, and the other interesting character played by a decent actor is killed off like halfway. And on top of that, they cast the dullest, most inexpressive man I've ever seen as the lead "hero". It was like looking at a dead fish trying half-assedly to act.
The Godzilla parts were great, but there was almost none of it, and I just felt annoyed and teased. I get what they were going for, but they failed.
>>13605738
Blandy McJarhead is never a good choice for your main character, no matter who's playing them.

>>13605697
It's ok. It's not amazing, but it's biggest problem was just the shaky cam being too much for some people
>>13605940
I like the idea of Hedorah flattening out and sorta enveloping things, but I don't like the idea of him being that squat when just standing upright. When Hedorah's standing independently, I think he looks best when he's sorta tall and upright. Almost a towering pillar of sludge.
Either way, he's certainly too, solidly formed I guess in that. Hedorah should be utterly amorphous, constantly shifting imo.

Mahiro Maeda (the monster designer for the Shusuke Kaneko Gamera trilogy and Ultraman: The Ultimate Hero/Ultraman Powered) is the one who did the design for Godzilla in Shin Godzilla/Godzilla Resurgence.

>>13606897

>>13606529
It's Anno, the Toku and Evafags will always find some retarded reason to fellate himeven when he has nothing to do with that design.
Any chance for Shin Godzilla doing this?
Been meaning to ask, but is Final Wars Goji his canonically strongest form? He fucking murdered every other kaiju thrown at him with relative ease aside from Monster-X.
>>13604754
"You gonna eat yo cornbread?"
>>13606890
This really.
>>13606914
Nice potato webm.
Well, Godzilla did manage to stop a small planetoid from crashing into the Earth in GFW by shooting it down with his atomic breath. He also managed to pick up and throw a 100,000 ton Keizer Ghidorah (half of Biollante's final form's weight). If anything, Godzilla's limits have never really been properly reached.
I assume each incarnation's powers and strength fluctuate, but from what we've seen of Godzilla in the last 60+ years, there are usually more mysteries than answers. The only thing to ever canonically kill him was the Oxygen Destroyer (which just completely removed all oxygen from Tokyo Bay).
>>13606905
Final Wars had many problems, but the FinalGoji suit wasn't one of them. I mean it's not the best suit, but I don't see anything objectively wrong with it. I mean, there's way worse.
I want a rematch

>that shitty cgi for the American Godzilla
Even to this day it still cracks me up.
What if when the movie starts there is some kind of nuclear crisis going on in japan and it leaks a ton of radiation into the ocean. Then a few days after people that live near the ocean report hearing howls, roars and screams like something is dying but they don't know what. Then at the almost midway point godzilla comes up out of the ocean and attacks and he looks like a lovecraftian zombie dinosaur thing.
With Anno's style something like that could be nightmare fuel.
>>13605713
But your point was "Godzilla barely shows up", which is true for all godzilla movies. What you did was goalpost moving.
>>13607007
No her point was that the characters were dull and emotionless.
What if there are two Godzillas in the movie and that the "Shin Godzilla" title is finding out which one is the real one? That could explain why this one looks like evil nightmare fuel made from the souls of WWII's dead.
>>13607012
which was irrelevant from the original posit of "Godzilla barely shows up"
>>13607005
I don't know about that story necessarily, but in an interview, Anno promised "I'll give you your best worst nightmare."
>>13607019
No.
>>13607005
Sounds pretty good. Since '54 Godzilla was an allegory for the A-bombs, do you think he's aiming to make this one an allegory for the Fukushima disaster?
Why are his eyes so damn small?
>>13607019
Reread that original post. Complaints about the characters being emotionless and nobody caring about them were present from the beginning.
>>13607024
anon do you even know moving goalposts
>I bet this will be like legendary godzilla where he barely shows up!
>you mean like every godzilla film?
>yeah well drama etc.
>>13607029
He should've made it the focal point of his post though.
Also while the soldier dude can't act I feel like he didn't really bring down the movie since the disaster movie aspect is still present.
Part of me feels like LegendGoji is getting unwarranted hate now that a "pure Japanese Godzilla" movie is being made.

Nuh uh.
>>13607033

>>13607035

Actually, I didn't think Legendary Godzilla was all that bad, but I like Cranston and it pissed me off when he said the new Godzilla movie was going to be different because it focused on the people affected by the tragedy and wasn't just monsters destroying things without context.
Motherfucker has clearly never seen the original Godzilla, or any of plenty of others.
>>13607017
Are you aware that that was the plot of the cancelled movie that got turned into Godzilla VS Destroyah was? Because that's the kind of geek thing that Anno would do.
(The film was originally going to be Heisei Godzilla VS the ghost of the original Godzilla killed by the oxygen destroyer, but they cancelled it because they didn't want him fighting another Godzilla twice in a row with Space just before)
>>13607026
It would be the best thing to use if he is going the same direction as the first movie. Fukushima is still fresh in peoples minds.
>>13607041
but the original godzilla was that anon
it focused on how obsessed Serizawa is, how Godzilla affected those islanders, etc.
stop using those MST3K Godzilla films as reference.
>>13607043
Now that you mention it, I vaguely recall reading that somewhere. Alternatively, they could let "Shin" be "God" in this case and make the rumored Godzilla vs Satan movie.
>>13607050
>MST3K
I just want to say that MST3K is fucking cancer. Fucking dumbass retarded yanks thinking they're clever by being racist fucks was bad enough, but they also spawned a million of stupid obnoxious fucks on the internet who think they can be clever by doing the same thing. Literal fucking cancer.
You misunderstood me. Cranston, in an interview, said that Legendary's Godzilla was different because it cared about the characters. As if none of the others had done that before.
Which is why I think he hasn't seen any of the others. The original Godzilla is in my top five favorite movies ever. I literally cried at the end the first time I saw it. And he just sort of brushes off every other Godzilla movie as cheap schlock, as opposed to his mature Godzilla movie for mature individuals.
>>13607050
I suggest you reread that post, anon.
>>13607059 is meant for >>13607050

Well yeah, the old dude was the same character and actor from the original Mothra film. The whole "Every non-Godzilla Showa film happened" idea behind the Kiryuverse was a fun one.
>>13607192
Better than the Pteranodon guy, that's for sure.
>>13607201
Totally agree. Well, I'm not sure if every Showa movie was a part but the connected history thing is still cool.
>>13607115
I'd pay top dollar for that statue. TOP. DOLLAR.
>>13607115
>that other Godzilla in the background all like "Come on!"
The eye makes me think of the small, wide eyes many early ultra creatures had.
>>13605679
I'd be interested in watching that but I can't seem to find it anywhere.
>>13607182
my guess is that the mind control used on them made them completely useless at fighting other Kaiju, otherwise I imagine even Zilla would have given Godzilla more trouble than he did
>>13604946
mechagodzilla technically isnt a kaiju but nobody cares
>>13604525
So is Anno finaly trying to top the mass production eva design in shear scariness?
>>13607357
It's already been done.
https://vimeo.com/64987176Guess which movie the guys who made this are making.
>>13607365
You see my problem with these things is that their body is so detailed and complex with its tendons and such that you spend more of your time looking at all of its details than it as a whole. They as a whole look to busy to me
The mass production eva's were relatively simple in design but as a whole design they are terrifying. Godzilla is a simple design when it comes down to it, he's a big ass gribbled dinosaur so the little details stand out more in accentuating how he looks.
>>13607389
I was more looking at the practical effects and how the creature itself seems to interact with the environment. As a proof of concept snippet, it looks good to me.
>>13607389
>but as a whole design they are terrifying.
Terrifyingly smug.
>>13607365
Dam that was cool. Wish there were subs.
>>13607365
I remember seeing the figma to that thing, the movie certainly has a weird feel to it.
I wouldn't mind that being in the in the new godzilla, with a better budget to it.
>>13606843
>>13606992
The biggest difference between Legendary Godzilla and Shin Godzilla is that Legendary Godzilla isn't technically a mutant but instead incomprehensibly old megafauna, while Shin Godzilla will probably be really topically based on Japan's troubled history with nuclear bombs and nuclear power, and it's interesting to me how that really seems to show in their designs. Really wouldn't mind a vs movie between them.
>>13606481
Marines don't have personalities. Drilling that out of them to create an unthinking, order-following machine is the point of early military training. Break 'em down and build 'em back up as living killbots.
>>13607365
>delayed explosion trace lasers
Underutilized in all things.
>tfw he sneaks in an EVA reference to spite all the people waiting for 4.0
>>13607602
>tfw he sneaks in an Eva reference just to spite me and the others who don't like Eva
>>13607602
>>13607612
>tfw it's actually an EVA movie with a Godzilla reference
>>13607845
>>13607612
We need to go wider.
>>13604525
Why even changing Godzilla design after perfection achived in Heisei?
>>13607869
Because up to this point it looked goofy and unthreatening as fuck
>>13607915
>up to this point it looked goofy and unthreatening as fuck
But it still does?
I'm not sure where everyone going "OH MY GOD SO SPOOKY/SCARY" are getting off. This looks comical. Some extra teeth don't make Googlyzilla look more menacing.
>>13607869
Why, to make Heisei look even more perfect in comparison!
Gyaos' creepy eyes were my least favourite design aspect of all of the Heisei Gamera trilogy so I'm not sure about this Godzilla. Ah well.
I'm hoping they make sequels with completely new fuckawesome monsters like Heisei Gamera did.
>>13607924
I've kinda warmed up to it, but I definitely didn't get the same kneejerk hype reaction as some others.
Would be nice to see the whole thing to make judgment, though. Better yet, to see it in motion, because that can either greatly add to or detract from the design. So far, I'm pretty unimpressed.
>>13607924
Actually they do, and if you can't see where we're getting it from you're probably a little fucked in the head. Just a little, nothing to be concerned about, but still.
>>13606914
Most of the Kaiju were also pretty underpowered, but probably.
>>13607086
Nukes are cool on murrica because it's the only nation that has used nuclear weapons against civil population so far and murricans are proud of it
>>13607924
Nobody gives a shit about Godzilla on Japan besides a bunch of 50s something men. Godzilla needs a massive retool for attracting viewers outside the 50s something male demographic
>>13608211
>and murricans are proud of it
holy shit you are so stupid.
>>13608231
Then this isn't the right way to go about it. They should have given him a cool sleek bishounen hairdo or a serafuku uniform.
>>13608381
>bishie hairdo
You can't rake a lot of money from fujos if it's Godzilla at the center.
>Serafuku
You need to SD-ify Big G for that to work.
>>13608381
>>13608400
No, clearly the only reasonable option is to hire one of those trendy south korean character designers so he can make Gudders look like he's from one of those MMORPGs everyone likes. That means plastic-looking textures, super-aerodynamic everything, glowing lines everywhere, lens flare effects when he uses the atomic breath, and also do a Djent remix of his theme.
>>13606995
>I want a team up
Fixed that for you.
>>13608400
Have you seen how SD characters look nowadays?
>>13608438
That's both the problem AND the point. Look at what they did for DD Hokuto no Ken.
>>13608423
Either that, or something straight out of a bad Macross episode
>Max vs Millia Knife fight QUALITY, never forget
>>13607043
If he's using old discarded concepts for all we know fucking Bagan could show up.
Do you want to see other kaiju in this film, or do you want a solo Big G movie?
>>13608335
The official history is that Truman saved many lives by killing many Japanese civilians and they kinda deserved it for Pearl Harbor. That's only taught on murrican school though, just like they teach America defeat Hitler and not the commies.
>>13608572
Where the hell did you go to school? Bumfuck County?
>>13608381
>>13608423
Joking aside, the entire tokusatsu genre depend on this movie. Toku has been a rotten corpse for years and not even the kids enjoy it. I wish so hard this movie become a hit. It has to be a hit or toku will die with its fanbase of middle-aged men
>>13608335
>America did the right thing by dropping the A-bombs, a drawn-out invasion of Japan would've resulted in many more American AND Japanese lives lost! The USA stopped WW2 and saved the world!
>>13605112

this one?
>>13608592
Yes, I love the Tokusatsu-effects tradition, and don't want the style to die out.
In 2004-2005, Godzilla, Gamera and Ultraman films all bombed and essentially wiped out the genre (even though Ultraman has sporadically had film success since then).
Really pulling for this. Design looks great.
>>13608609
>even though Ultraman has sporadically had film success since then
By pandering really hard to middle-aged men's nostalgia
>>13608622
>By pandering really hard to middle-aged men's nostalgia
Yes, definitely, although the Ultra Galaxy Movie has a lot of energy and cool mythos on display.
There's hope for the new Ultraman X movie in March too, which will be directed by Kiyotaka Taguchi who also has a love for practical effects work.
>>13606016
I see we're going with the radiation mutant theme
>>13606172
>cookie monster mouth
>cannot unsee
>>13608630
I love X but I know the show isn't making new Ultra fans, especially on Japan
For those curious, this is apparently an animatronic. There is a suit though, which is being referred to as "Cancer Godzilla" because the body is covered in sores.
>>13608645
Well, I definitely think it's bringing new Westerners to Ultraman given the simulcast with crunchyroll.
>>13608650
Wasn't it supposed to be CGI?
>>13608650
>Cancer Godzilla
>the body is covered in sores
Jesus.
>>13608705
>>13608650
Fallout, man. It does a body bad.
>>13608697
No, but there will be CGI 'enhancements', ala Attack on Titan or Crimson Peak
>>13608710
[X]-HATE CANCER
>>13608665
I seriously doubt it.
Is ghidorah going to be in this one?
>>13608793
They're probably gonna do a movie just about Godzilla or they're introducing a new monster
Ghidorah is for the American version as far as we know
He's bottom heavy
>>13607854
>tfw it's not a movie, just a straight re-release of the EVA show with this Godzilla pic showing up for a single frame
So when is he going to release 4.0?

>>13609170
>yfw this is 5.0
>>13608003

Finally, that "Boy Meets World" joke comes to fruition!
>GODZILLA, YOU'RE LATE FOR YOUR MOVIE IN AMERICA
>I HATE DOING ACROSS THE GLOBE MOVIES!
>>13609565
Is it weird that I find this adorable?
>>13608869
Rodan, Mothra, and Ghidorah are slated.
Rumors of a Kong and Godzilla film to happen sometime in the future.
No sign of Angurius. You know, the guy who helped Godzilla start the 'monster fighting monster' shit.
>>13609569
Burgerlanders don't care about Anguirus
>>13609573
They care for him more than the nips.
>>13609573
America loves Anguirus. Japan on the otherhand loves Baragon way more. That's why he stayed in GMK: Anguirus and Varan weren't marketable enough.
>>13609637
GAV would be cool.
>>13606172
>>13604525
The design just looks awful. Maybe some good scenes can save it or a different angle, but that is neither scary nor impressive.
It looks outright stupid. A small, beady eye that invokes more comedy than fear, and a set of teeth that looks like they'll break if he as much as takes a bite.
But, trust /m/ to lose all critical sense when it comes to oversized monsters smashing things, I guess.
>>13609637
Actually, the director professed his love for Baragon and admitted it was Toho who wanted Mothra in because she was more popular, otherwise he was going to have it as Godzilla, Baragon and King Ghidorah
>>13609584
[citation needed]
>>13609669
Godzilla adult video?
>>13609673
No, Toho insisted on Mothra and Ghidorah. Megaguirus was a flop and they were about ready to give up on Godzilla again if Kaneko's movie flopped, so they brought out the big guns to get people's attention.
In fact, to compensate for not having Varan, they sculpted Ghidorah's faces to resemble him.
>>13607057
>I just want to say that MST3K is fucking cancer. Fucking dumbass retarded yanks thinking they're clever by being racist fucks was bad enough, but they also spawned a million of stupid obnoxious fucks on the internet who think they can be clever by doing the same thing. Literal fucking cancer.
madhair go to bed
>>13609731
You're never gettin your mutant giant walrus because that shit is too ridicules for an American audience
>>13609573
But we care about jet jaguer a WHOLE lot for some reason.
Burgerlanders are the only reason Jet still exist and is somewhat relevant
>>13609772
It's because the casual American perception of Godzilla is very much rooted in Godzilla vs Megalon. Had one of the largest marketing campaigns for a Showa Godzilla film and it was the only Godzilla film to have ever been aired on national television with an NBC presentation hosted by Barbara Walters and John Belushi in a tacky Godzilla suit. It also slipped into the public domain for a time and was thus pretty widely available during the age of VHS.
Godzilla vs Megalon is why most Burgerlanders exclusively associated Godzilla with tacky suits, bad effects, and being a wacky child-friendly superhero
>>13609805
Don't forget the MST3K episodes of Godzilla vs Megalon and the Gamera movies that perpetuated that idea of Giant monster movies being tacky and cheap.
>>13609805
>an NBC presentation hosted by Barbara Walters
So /m/...
Did you like the MUTOS
>>13609904
I fucked up and got the SNL sketch Belushi wore the suit for the first time with the presentation.
>>13610027

>>13609948
They were okay. Before I saw the movie, one shot in a TV spot made me think they'd be pale blue. That was a small disappointment.
>>13604525
I think it looks like shit.
>>13610062
Fuck off, Gamera!
>>13610062
Get a load of this guy.
Shiro Sagisu's doing the music
http://www.scified.com/godzillamovies/evangelion-composer-shiro-sagisu-to-score-godzilla-resurgence-
>>13610482
This just keeps getting better.
>>13610482
His Eva score was pretty good. I would have preferred Ko Otani to do it, but I don't think Sagisu will do a bad job.
>>13610482
I always thought that some of his Eva stuff was the best godzilla imitation scores, so this will be great
>>13608597
>>13608572
Hardly anyone in America thinks this anymore except boomers.
And to think that as Eva 3.0 + 1.0 has been delayed for who knows how long just for this fricken film. >_<
I hope it's worth it.
>>13611950
But what if this film becomes Eva 3.0 + 1.0 halfway through?
I hope it doesn't suck.
I hoped 3.0 didn't suck.
>>13604946
Baragon
>>13606864
Good. I'd love to see him do more with this new design.
>>13614043

That would be fucking awesome.
