war in the pocket was pretty average, it just looks good in comparison to the rest of gundam.
>>
0080 transcends its genre.

War in the Pocket is shit. I can suspend my disbelief just fine but to think some retard with the help of a little kid secretly repaired a Gundam is hard to swallow. The girl is barely present so I don't get her popularity and when the retard dies doing something retarded I just don't give a shit. What a terrible OVA with an insufferable cast.

What do you mean by a 10/10? Do you mean a literal 10/10 anime that I consider perfect, or are near-10s, like 9.8s, good enough to be posted in this thread? Because let me tell you, most anime and most mecha anime are not 10/10.

How do you guys judge your anime anyway? On a 100 point scale, do you start by saying all anime is at 100, or a 10, and subtract from it as the series goes on and flaws become apparent? Or do you build up a score, starting at 0 and adding points as it does better and better until you reach a final score?

There are a few things that I consider perfect 10/10. There are many that are close though.

>Gundam 00 S1:
This is a 10/10. No doubt about it. Everything, from the OP to the ED to the animation and mecha design is great. I love the way they balance the power of Gundams out with the existing world order, and while the Trinitys are a bit of a disappointment it's not enough to lower my opinion of the series. S2 squandered everything.

>Gundam 00: Awakening of the Trailblazer
A solid 10/10. Aliens in my Gundam? It's more interesting than you think! Aside from some stupid shit like Andrei getting yet more scenes, it really does a good job of going from Invasion of the Body Snatchers horror to an amazing sci-fi battle that makes use of concepts that don't date back to the 1960s like most Gundam series. I love watching it.

>Rebuild of Evangelion 1.11, 2.22:
Has there been a more perfect remake than 1.11? It's beautiful, well-animated, a good plot that doesn't yet drag you down into the madness of later Eva, and is something you can just watch again and again. 2.22 is even better, if that's possible. Rather than rehashing the anime it goes down its own path, while continuing to build on the mythos and themes of Evangelion. Unlike 3.33, it doesn't do things differently for the sake of being different, but brings you to the conclusion and thematic starting point of End of Evangelion. It's only later, with 3.33, that things really start going wrong for Rebuild.

>Planetes:
I love it. I love the plot, I love the characters, I love the artstyle and music. The only negative is ghost Hachimaki.

>Uchuu Kyoudai:
The manga is a 10/10, not the anime.

>Macross Frontier, Itsuwari no Utahime, Sayonara no Tsubasa
If you take the good parts of the movies and add them to the good parts of the series, you'd get a perfect Macross. There's just too many silly or stupid or undeveloped plot points in all three entries for any single entry to be a 10.
>>
>>13599595
Generally speaking, a 10/10 show is anything I watch that I can immediately recommend to anybody I know even if they don't care for the genre.

9/10 shows are something that really hit home for me on an emotional level, but that I know can/will be a hard sell for others.
>>
>>13599645
>Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn, Episode 1
This is actually more of a 9.98 than a 10, but it's just on the cusp of being perfect. There's just something lacking and unsubstantive about it that makes it fundamentally unsatisfying to watch. Maybe it's the Audrey shit, or the fact that it just drops you into the story with no real explanations of anything. Whatever the case, the rest of Unicorn doesn't come as close to a 10 and the last episode drags the series overall to an 8.87.

>Cowboy Bebop
Yes. It's perfect. It's something anyone with taste should fall in love with instantly.

>Big Guy and Rusty
Working only off of my memory of the series, which I haven't watched in about twelve years, I think this is one of the few Western animated series to be a 10/10 for me. It's just gorgeous, with fun characters, great battles, and that retro sci-fi look that I adore.

>Ring of Gundam
This is probably the best Gundam anime ever made. It distills Gundam down to its essentials as a franchise; a slavish devotion to the original Gundam, the brownnosing of Amuro and Newtypes in general as the answers to everything, and the really pointless morals that seem to crop in every other spinoff.

>Time of Eve
One of the few series to really explore what it could mean for society to live alongside humanoid androids. Studio Rikka really did some beautiful animation here, and I'm looking forward to a return to the setting in the next twenty years.

>Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, 2nd Gig
Both SAC series are 10/10s. SAC has a bit more of a coherent story and cyberpunk theme compared to 2nd Gig, but they both do a great job of blending gorgeous TV animation and Yoko Kanno's amazing musical score with well-written plots that keep you on the edge of your seat. The Oshii movies are kind of meh in comparison; too much psychobabble weighs down some great cyberpunk stories and beautiful animation.

its the same gundam show since 0079, and this is gonna sound weird but it's crazier yet more down to earth, it sorta feels real-er. Tomino tried to sabotage himself and came up with the best protagonist, the best usage of a mass produced robot, a better Lalah Sune and just a cast of irracional humans unlike those logical redditors fiction tries to instill on you

>>
>>13600879
The terrorism parts are what ruined it, it felt forced, like "oh, we need some kind of problem don't we". Until that point it was really a slice of life story, in space, which I found far better and more enjoyable.
The EVA testing for the Von Braun episodes were great though.
>>
>>13601218
I think the terrorism attack at the end was well done actually. Mostly because of the fact that none of the things the main characters do has any effect on its outcome, which isn't something you see very often. Those episodes weren't as good as the rest of the show, but I don't think they ruined the show.

>>
I don't really have a 10/10 (for mecha anyway) I'm always at least a little disappointed by what I watch.
>>
>>13600541
I'm just speculating. I really don't know why episode 1 doesn't feel perfect to me, it just doesn't. Like, it's just on the cusp of perfection but it's not there. Maybe it's because the Unicorn doesn't do squat except appear.
>>
>>13601218
The terrorism was an integral part of the plot from episode 9. They didn't come out of nowhere. And it's pretty important in the modern day, where we have terrorists everywhere. Greenpeace and Sea Shepherd are basically the Space Defense Force lite.
>>
>>13601945

I still get that, there was also the oppression of smaller nations (shown with the bulky EVA suit episode) and it added to the setting/backdrop. But I guess at the time of me watching it I just wanted a space SoL so bad that I just rejected the ending. Though I have legitimate problems with some of the character's motivations for their choices to become bad guys and they were just not enough/ not well written.

I like what that they made the Gamillans better characters, and overall it's definitely a better show than the original.
However, I do mind that they downplayed Analyzer and threw in a bunch of female characters for the sake of romance and ass shots.
The relationships between Susumu and Juzo, Shima and Mamoru were kind of downplayed as well.

>SAC > 2nd gig. They're both 10/10's. I'm due for a re-watch of both tho
>I love Eureka 7. It remembers love for a lot of my older favorites like MSG, SDF, and Eva; while also being an enjoyable adventure on it's own.
>Unicorn is an achievement in the Gundam franchise. I'm a huge fan of it's production and score. Unicorn praises the NT theory better than most Gundam.
>I have love for Gurren Lagann much the same as Eureka 7. Plus, I love the sakuga in gainax/trigger shows.
>Cowboy Bebop is one of the best written TV shows ever written. Not ust in anime. I love it.

Neo Ranga is the only /m/-related legit 10/10 I've ever seen, maybe alongside Gankutsuou and LoGH

>it's an /m/ series that isn't Patlabor

the only true 10/10 /m/ to me.

Also if 0080 was only 3 episodes long, had a bunch of the music re-tweaked, and some of the logic errors fixed it would be good. But as it stands I honestly think it's painfully overrated.

F91 is the sexiest piece of ass I have ever seen.

Those curves, those grills, those hidden compartments.
>>
>>13612175
>>13612170
The first time I saw the F91's torso, I thought the design team was inspired by a car.
>>
>>13612176
I'd like to know where Okawara came up with that part, it was a pretty big change for Gundam torso design at that time.

Considering the naming convention for the entirely line (Formula series and its Anaheim ripoff, the Silhouette series), I'm willing to bet it's really based off high-performance cars.

Eva and Gurren Lagann. That's it.

No show deserves a 10/10 because everything has at least one flaw

Robot Carnival, Genmu Senki Leda, Cyber City Oedo 808, Wings of Honneamise, Urotsukidoji and Angel Cop.

There's many others I enjoy just as much but none of them are quite perfect.

I also like VOTOMs, LoGH, and actual Brave series shit, but I probably wouldn't rewatch them unless it was with a group of friends. Most of the ones on the list I made i'd go back and rewatch every now and then.
