If you were to make your own original gundam series, how would you go about doing it? The only original ideas I can think of are:

>follows a small squad in which they are all the protagonist
>the federation is portrayed as the antagonist
>the cast is mostly seasoned soldiers, no new recruits
>>
Bro, you basically described Gundam Wing there.
>>
>>13597601
Oh shit you're right. Good catch, anon.
I guess don't have any original ideas.
>>
>>13597592
Bro, you basically described Gundam 00
>>
>>13597592
some Zeon guys out in the middle of nowhere on some base with some Feddies across a big debris field

neither side cares about the war so they work together to survive in the boonies of space but commanders shipped them both MS and demand footage of the battle so they work together to stage fights that look convincing and send them the results
>>
Alright, I have an idea what will blow all your minds.

WHAT IF... during the One Year War there was a *new* Gundam prototype being built and tested, one that looks different from all the other Gundam prototypes in use.
>>
>>13597659
christ, anon you're onto something
>>
>>13597615
That sounds really contrived and would probably only work as a short film.
>>
A small series that begins and ends in a single battle. Just a six or so episode battle scene with small character stories within it.

>Just a six or so episode battle scene with small character stories within it.

Like what, 'not die'?

There's a reason why every war show and film of any repute finds room for downtime and calms in the stillness. Combat is not a wall of noise and a series of explosions.
>>
>>13597786
>>13597777
But that would be boring as hell.
>>
>the federation is the antagonists

At this point, that's almost less original an idea than the other way around.
>>
>>13597824
Not him, but I've seen the same idea before some 80 some odd times. Just because you don't see it in jap cartoons or comics that commonly doesn't mean it's not as commonly used as the ones you do see in them in other places.

Depends on the writing.

>captain refuses to be as much of a dick as other zeon officers, having his own set of morals and working to win the war his own way
>each pilot has their own personality and same amount of screentime, developing and building relationships with each other and the rest of the crew
>they are constantly being pummeled by the federation, barely making it through the war, characters dying left and right making nobody safe

I feel like this could work though

Well, your first mistake is assuming every Gundam series has just one antagonist.

Having said that:
-Zeta
-F-91 (the movie DOES end with the Space Ark crew essentially saying "Screw this! We're outta here!")
-Gundam Wing
-Gundam X
-Gundam SEED
-Gundam SEED Destiny
-Gundam SEED: Stargazer
-MS IgLoo: The Hidden One Year War/Apocalypse 0079
-Gundam 00 S2
-Iron-Blooded Orphans

Ok, the setting is this: there's a civil war on a jungle/tropical big democracy-turned-autocracy nation, like Brazil or something. The rebellious band is divided in two main factions, one led by the MC, a typical hot-blooded, democracy-loving young general and pilot who is all about muh justice; the ore faction is led by a sly and cunning politician whose family used to be part of the elite, but fell in disgrace after the fall of democracy.
These factions have some differences and such, but generally cooperate and are effective in the war, with the first faction getting some early victories and liberating some territories, and the other one running the government. They use guerrilla tactics with outdated robots and such. Most of the territories they liberate are resource-poor and land-locked, but that works in their advantage somehow.
This cooperation ends as the war reaches a stalemate. The politician’s faction, faced with the administration of a poor and isolated territory, and the autocratic government, discredited by the poor results of the war and general civil unrest, decide to sign a treaty that will allow autonomy for local governments and representation at a national parliament, but keep most of the autocratic executive branch untouched.
(1/2)
>>
(2/2)
The MC faction instead wants to keep fighting, so they break with the politician and get lost in the jungle and manage to keep, if not direct support, at least some sympathy from the population. These last until they decide to launch a major attack on the day and city where the treaty is to be signed. This attack is actually too successful, since there were no troops on the city, they kill the politician, some bad guys, and a bunch of opposing civilians. Now everyone hates them.
The government launches a new campaign against the rebels, now with full support of the populations. They give no rest to the MC and his troops and, after being cornered, he decides to make his last standing. Unfortunately, not all his remaining soldiers agree with this, many flee.
However, he and a bunch of loyal men fight, lose and get beaten. He’s badly wounded and later dies in the jungle, finally realizing how bad he fucked up.

This is gonna sound fan-fic tier, but bear with me.

>Be set in post-apocalyptic future.
>Arms developer becomes weapons dealer and gives nukes to every nation
>Nuclear war ends world and weakens national powers
>Dealer takes over world easily and develops mobile weapons to oppress the survivors into servitude and loyalty
>Dealer develops Gundam types based on an original "Gundam" used at the end of the war to show power
>Every four years a new unit is sent to Earth to quell a rising rebellion
>Small team of rebels infiltrate satellite to steal the 6th and final unit. Team is eliminated but unit is successfully sent to Earth
>Brother of team member, normie engineering whiz, repairs and recovers Gundam.
>Picked up by rebel faction and learns of dead brother
>Rebels develop 2 Gundams for itself to fill specific combat roles
>Gundam and it's pilot face off against the other 5 sent before it one by one as its making its way to Weapons Dealer HQ to end oppression
>Story elements about psychics, AIs, "mobile trace" system, references to other series
>Awesome elite soldiers in grunt units on both sides kicking butt
>Secret 7th unit identical to 6th deployed at HQ to intercept.
>Epic final battle after discovery of super weapons in 6th and 7th Gundams

CONT from >>13598035
Sort of a love letter to Gundam. Inspired by Turn A using aspects and story elements from all previous series. Avoids tired stereotypes and reworks them into something familiar for old fans but new enough to be original.
>references G by the four year timing of sending Gundams and mobile trace like system and "super modes"
>references Wing by the sending of 5 Gundams to Earth to enforce power, each unit having different roles and weapons (references 00 in similar manner)
>references UC with the inclusion of psychics and the physics the world adheres to including I-Field tech, learning computers and AI
>references Turn A with twin units posessing super weapons and having cameos and references to prior series via ruins/weapons/names
>references X with psychics, and lover interest and the three unit hero team. One unit using "dakka", the other a atmospheric flight unit, and the last being hero
>references Seed by having modified humans and weapon loadouts
It might sound cringe worthy but its a lot more fleshed out in my head

In the distant future, humans have colonized a portion of the Milky Way (Earth is not a part of this society). Centuries of only small-scale conflicts have left the Federal military rather small. Suddenly an autocracy is created along the outer territories and begins spreading across Federal Space. This upstart Empire crushes the weakened Federal forces through the use of a once-forgotten weapon called mobile suits. This prompts the Federation to build their own mobile suits based on the legendary machines known as "Gundams".

A show that focuses on the mechanics and engineers and the MS retrieval crews with all the fights and usual space war melodrama happening in the background.
Pilots are secondary characters, all grunts/fodder and we only occasionally see their battles. If we do there is no focus on the pilots themselves so no cockpit shots. we usually only see pilots as they go out to battle and IF they return with their suits probably trashed. MC has pilot girlfriend. We see her go and and worry whether or not she'll come back ending is her going out to battle and then her suit drifting back in the aftermath and shes been hamburgered.
the show should be generally kind of cheery though. im kind of thinking of patlabor set in a space war actually
>>
Collection of short war stories (1-2 episodes per story) from the OYW. Mostly about grunts, some aces in high-spec suits like GM Sniper Customs and shit

Standard AU about some sides going to war. Maybe set in the distant, distant future where humanity has already colonized other planets. Main cast grew up on a wasteland planet and they've been building a ship to find and return to Earth but come to odds with bandits and the government who are interested in the ship. They start out with grunt-type MS but MC's unit is upgraded throughout the show until it takes the form of a Gundam, named after something from their history books. In the end they get to Earth and it's nothing but a wasteland just like the one they left. Char was right you faggots.

A series told from the perspective of an anti-MS crew infantry guy and his various missions that bring him to all sorts of landscapes like jungles, deserts, tropical beachheads, and the lunar surface. One where the hero eventually realizes that they are that they got as far as they did because of the gundam after being a over-confident shit, where the gundam is a prototype and is out-classed by designs that do it's job better, and where a girl ends up as supporting girl ends up as the best pilot with good leadership skills, while he just gets all of the credit because it makes good propaganda in which the hero feels he is the only one who realizes this. Also, WW2 and Vietnam parallels with two coors.

>Mad Max-esque shenanigans ensure against rival warbands, until Spacenoid recolonization effort begins

Me again!

This or a story following a group of Zeon soldiers throughout the one year war and into crossbone with the final story being about a descendant of a Puru clone who will end up leaving with Jadau's exodus fleet. The puru clone she's descends from may decide not to leave, but Jadau would at least have a happy moment chatting with her.

Maybe a story well in Astray involving an older Lowe Gear as a mobile suit developer who is in charge of a project involving a competition for the next-gen main-line ZAFT or ORB fighter called the G.El.6006 Jaeger (because why not). Because, the last Astray unit was riddled with problems from corporate decisions Lowe was against that got him fired from that company (and on the dot for every issue), so they want Lowes company to head one of the projects to replace it. The story will be as fun as an Astray story should be, and introduce F91 sized suits with the unit Lowe's company will work on.

>Mobile Suit Gundam: Mercenary

The year is 144 AFC (After First Contact.)

Upon discovering the secret to interstellar travel, The UGEC (United Government of Earth and her Colonies) was thrust into a hostile galaxy once known as Andromeda, where a fight among spacefaring races has scorched the many planets of this new frontier for centuries before mankind's arrival. These races, while technologically level with humans, held one key advantage: The mobile suit. Each fabricated in the image of the species that builds it, they take the role of space-infantry in a age where starship-based conflict is the norm. 144 years after the UGEC first entered frontier, a PMC composed of human and alien MS pilots formed by a former UGEC commander from Scotland named Matilda Blackwood. Trained in the ways of MS warfare by his mother, 15 year old tactical genius Aaron Blackwood attends the UGEC Military Academy on the human colony of Oppenheimer II (much to the dismay of his mother). One day, Aaron receives an encrypted message from an unknown party, showing his mother leaving him command of The Blackwood Company shortly before being executed on camera. Now responsible for the lives of all of the Blackwood mercenaries, the young commander must lead the Blackwood Company in taking jobs from client to client, all while piloting the Gundam, matilda's legendary mobile suit reverse-engineered fro ancient alien tech, in order to find his mother's killers and make bank doing it.

The Earth is going to explode and it's not feasible to send all the citizens to space. The Federation is basically fucked and in shambles
The Principality will not stand back and allow billions to die, so because they're lunatics, they build a MASSIVE hull using materials from the asteroid field and enclose half of the entire Earth around it, since that's all they can fit and it's full to the rim with the entire population of the Earth, because the Federation couldn't save them.

Over hundreds of years, using crap they find in the colony, the Principality has rebuilt the Earth inside the gigacolony and given it a new core. The shell is ready to be removed and the current Principality hands over control of the Earth to the pitiful remnants of the Federation since it was never abolished. But the people of the Earth identify as citizens of the Principality and stage a rebellion against the new government. The Federation is so weak that they need to ask for assistance from the UC, the United Colonies made up of all non-Principality colonies from before the destruction of the Earth. All they do is send them a Gundam based on the ancient symbol of the Federation, which is given to a preteen boy who is a conscripted soldier and is unfortunately the only one capable enough to handle it among the Federation's forces

Series start 150 years after the dissolution of Earth Empire and the independence of Moon and Space Colony on earth sphere. With most infrastructure on earth either lost or destroyed, Earth are dependent on extraterrestrial energy sources.

2 other faction are the Free Lunar Colony (FLC) and Solar Colony Union(SCU). FLC and SCU are in a rivalry to monopolize energy business on Earth Sphere and sometime a small skirmish occurs and raiding on each other territories

The small skirmish goes bad and later it escalated to a full out war between both parties with SCU and FLC uses their weapon of mass destruction. Earth Reactionary Forces step in as a mediator as the war ravaged on Earth, Moon and Space.

With all the parties strength are exhausted, the old enemy of the past has return after their long exile to Jupiter and slowly returning back to Earth Sphere to exert their claim to the Earth Empire Throne

Gundam anime with NO GUNDAM!

No-Gundam is an abstract concept where a gundam will be made by not making it!
It will include obscure Atheistic symbolism because IT'S COOL while also portray me as the NO-Gundam getting sexully abused by an all female cast in the cockpii.e. just my fetishes onscreeen which would be very surreal in TV broadcast while BD will be outright hentai.
It will end with MC raping Aida in farm on a solitary planet in a very tranquil and beautiful environment, with no one to interrupt MC raping Aida.

How about this wildly different idea:

Set in present day, 6 space pods suddenly land on earth, each containing a Gundam. Inside each pod was a single word, written in every language known to man (and even some unrecognizable): SURVIVE.

The Gundam are huge and ridiculously overpowered by modern standards, and are literal country-destroying superweapons - to the point where if any superpower had control of just two Gundam instead of one, they could easily take over the world. The 6 landed in the following areas: USA, Japan, Russia, Germany, India and Brazil. Indian engineers are the first to properly interface with a Gundam, and within weeks they eradicate Pakistan and take over the Middle East. The other countries frantically catch up and defend their borders. Each country quickly becomes a regional superpower, with all neighboring countries subsumed under their control after the first few careless demonstrations of the power of Gundam. The age of Gundam has arrived.
>>
>>13599675

The story proper starts twenty years later. The world is teetering on a fragile peace. Although the Mutually Assured Destruction guaranteed by the existence of Gundam prevents open war, tensions are higher than ever with Gundam reminding everyone how close annihilation is. Gundam are close to being revered as the a patron saints and Divine Guardians of each region. [Generic Not-Japanese Name Here] has trained all his life for the extremely selective Gundam Pilot Programme, after his parents were killed in atrocities in the early months of the appearance of Gundam. After years of singular focus on qualifying, he is finally anointed as one of the select few to pilot Gundam and serve and protect his motherland.

But questions still abound about the Gundam. Signs point to Gundam being sent from humans in the future rather than from space, but for what purpose? Initially, humanity believed that they were meant as weapons to defend against alien invasion, but after twenty years of no show and geopolitical tensions, it becomes increasingly plausible that SURVIVE referred to surviving the coming war against the other powers. There are further signs that there were supposed to be 8 Gundam in total, but only 6 have been found.

But none of this matters right now. By the end of the first episode, reports have confirmed that Russian spies have successfully infiltrated and taken control of India's Gundam.

My idea:

In relation with the discussion I started about the lesson that Newtypes are just telepathic humans, not evolved species, here's my idea of an AU:
After World War III, the survivors relocated to outer space, with space colonies as their new homes, located on langrange points. Fifty years later, these langrange points are now countries; some being absolute monarchys, and some being democracies. However, it is revealed humanity have become Newtypes. The catch is that, those identified as Oldtypes are ostracized.

Takes place 100 years after a large scale war rocked the Earth Sphere to the point where most of the Earth is uninhabitable without proper equipment.

Colonies exist as independent nations who all answer to a central governing body located on the Moon. Since the war the HR (Homeland Restoration) Project has had a dedicated amount of resources where humanity has been restoring and rebuilding the planet Earth so that humanity can live there without assistance again.

Several outlooks and groups exist including
-Those who believe humanity should recolonize earth after the restoration is complete
-Those who believe humanity should be barred access to the earth after the restoration is complete
-Those who are pushing for humanity to leave the solar system and simply find a new homeland and stop pumping resources into the Earth restoration
-Those who are intentionally sabotaging the HR Project to maintain the current power balance

Various organizations exist including organizations tasked with finding and transporting large resource rich asteroids to the Earth Sphere, salvage groups who refurbish technology recovered from the Earth and massive space graveyard filled with junk created in the previous war, organizations tasked with maintaining and preserving any Earth native flora and fauna that was saved before the Earth was ruined, space mercenaries who sell themselves to whoever pays the best and organizations based around the building and improvement of colonies.

The protagonists group will be compromised of individuals who want to preserve and repair the earth, but will be split between those who want to be able to live there, those who want it be barred from human habitation and those who want to abandon earth and head into space (the reason being that colonies who want to do so are barred by the Central Moon Government due to rules in the charter established that all humanity has a responsibility for the restoration of earth)

A series of episodic OVA adapting those alternative history scenarios in Gihren Greed and Zeta VS Gundam.
>>
>>13599875
The antagonists will be varied but the ultimate end goal will be an attempt by the group trying to perpetuate the current stagnation in restoration to cause a major setback and basically undo all the work done, only for it to be coopted by radicals in the Earth Abandonment group who try and use the plan to irrevocably destroy the Earth so the Central Government charter will be null and void.

The series will ultimately end with a revoking of the "Everyone has a responsibility to restore Earth" clause and the confirmation thanks to technology advancement during the series and hard work that Earth is habitable for humans again, but still in need to a lot of work and repair.

The protagonists who wanted to go off into space do so, while the protagonists who want to live on Earth and continue to repair it do so as well, leaving on good terms.

Those who were in favor of banning humanity from Earth are the only ones who end realizing that's too extreme a solution.

Irony will also reveal that the technology that was going to be used to destroy the Earth fully is also applicable in that it's used to rapidly advance the Earth recovery, in that the original inventor was originally developing it simply so that humanity could finally be free to move on from Earth, regardless of it being through it's destruction or restoration.

The unique trait I'd incorporate into the machines is that each one would be fully self sustainable living spaces to varying degrees. Having technology to retrieve water, produce food and even power themselves for non-energy intensive actives.

A forward recon unit of the EF resupplies at a neutral Jovian colony that is under attack during a false flag operation by Mars. A group of civillians get picked up by the ship crew with of course a teenager falling into the gundam. Martian were attempting to steal the Gundam

The recon unit now has to make it way back to the Earth Sphere, but is basically under attack by Jovians, and eventually the EF forces for being war criminals. Mars also provides issues for them as they are the only survivors.

The recon unit is supported by a independent coalition of Martian colonies who are currently rebelling.

Eventually ends up in a Zeta-esque finale with slightly less death

I've written 125 pages of setting, technical info, character bios, and episode summaries of my own original Gundam series. I decided the best way to go about it isn't to be different for difference's sake, but to approach standard Gundam tropes from a Western perspective. That is, have things play out the way a Western writer would.

So the elite enemy ace formations aren't really elite, they're mostly propaganda building up on the pilot's genuine skills. The teenaged pilot of the Gundam is motivated by the simple and time-worn motive of revenge for his dead parents. Newtypism is just a New Age philosophy promoted by the temporary civilian gyaru love interest. And so on.

>Suddenly entire military units start getting wiped out inexplicably, each side blaming the other
>turns out to be space aliens bent on claiming the Solar system's resources especially Earth.
>Earthlings and Spacenoids start uneasy alliance, but still won't forget about their war with each other and try to use the alien menace to their advantage.

Also, no love story. No one younger than 20-ish piloting an MS. No angsty melodrama. No newtype BS. The story would focus on military units as team (grunt suits and mobile armors) rather than a do-everything invincible Gundam. Gundam units would be sparsely used since there would only be a few of them so they'll be regulated to a supporting role but some pilots will be recognizable and recurring.

I'd probably make a series that makes Zeta look like your typical "slice of life" shit:
>Following an MS team 08th MS team style
>Start with them undergoing training and then deploying on earth
>Have loads of issues adjusting to life on earth with higher gravity and not being in a climate controlled environment
>Pilots start out as mostly rookies, but quickly develop to become more skilled and less reckless
>Rather than the usual thing where everyone always survives despite almost getting killed, characters actually die when they screw up
>They don't even get the usual quick and painless deaths with ether no corpse or a pretty corps
>In short: They ether bleed to death still in their cockpits or end up like Bernie in War in the Pocket
>Ending up permanently disabled rather than dying is also an option
>Another possibility is having a mental breakdown and becoming incapacitated that way
>Characters dying or being permanently incapacitated replaced with rookies that ether get killed or become skilled enough not to be rookies anymore
>Ends with a really chaotic depiction of the battle of A Baoa Qu where all the remaining members are ether killed, injured or captured
>Amuro Ray or some other OYW Gundam pilot makes a cameo, thou only as a "force of nature" type encounter in the same style as Amuro's cameo in Battlefield Record
>Literally the whole squad ends up ether dead, captured, physically crippled or in a mental hospital after suffering a mental breakdown on the battlefield
>Rather than the usual stuff where the protagonists always get to destroy loads and loads of enemy grunts all over the place it's a more even affair here
>Show is called something depressing like "The Doomed Platoon"
>General anti-war message all troughout with a clear message that dying is not even the worst thing that can happen to you in a war and that the suffering a war causes doesn't end when the war ends

I'd rather see a new Dragonar series.

The only idea is that about a decade later after the first series, the Earth Militia has split up in to 3 parts, and the idea of war is brewing between two of the sides, and a cold war of building weapons has begun. Giganos is no longer an empire, but a small nation on the moon that has a lead on MA technology, leaving the other nations to deal with them for stronger weapons

6 Dragonar have been created up in space, and an attack on a colony has sets the series in motion. The five main characters end up inside of the Dragonar, but this time, all of the main characters are actually apart of that military, but only 2 of the 5 are actually pilots. The 6th one is stolen by someone from Giganos who I might just be lame enough to be related to Meio.

The main character will have had a hidden past that he doesn't like to talk about because this is Dragonar, it'll just be a stupid joke. He overslept when he was training to become a pilot, was demoted, and sent to the colony as punishment to do menial tasks

I'd also like to make use/adapt current military technology to the series, so I'd like the Dragonar to start off with or upgrade to Electrical Reactive Armor or something. I'd like it to be effective against ballistics, and someone effective against lasers/beams, and then someone would take that technology and make something like beam shields. People would say "but phase shift did it first", but eh, screw it. I'm also trying to think of a way of putting a unique spin on remote weapons, but I can't think of anything. I'd also like the new D-1 to have metal boomerangs, but I can't think of a way of justifying it coming back other than magnetism, or just saying "well, it just does"

Dragonar was a fun series and seemed really appreciative of the military, but I'd actually like to see some damage being done nobody can just laugh off, and have to deal with. I would want to see a big city getting destroyed by a large explosive of some sort, and that would. Not that it would turn GRIM AND GRITTY, but just a slap in the face of reality,

I'd also like the main character to be black, because I can't think of any mecha series where that's the case. But I'm black too, and I don't want anyone saying MARY SUE/SELF-INSERT, so I'll give it a rest.

I'd give it a try if I ever get any better at art.

If I was in charge of a Gundam series, I would make it cater to my own tastes so much that I would anger a lot of fanbases purely because of how much it would go against what Gundam is.

For one the Gundam would be a one-man army. Before you bring up Kira for being an overpowered Gary Stu, Strike Freedom didn't go far enough. I mean truly a machine that single-handedly would turn the tide of war, just a small beam from its finger is as strong as the Big Zam's main cannon. And the pilot will have been brought his whole life being taught that he will save humanity and lead it into a golden age, so he's really arrogant and has kind of a messiah complex.

And the rival with the evil Gundam will have been set up as such by the same organization that raised the hero to begin with, so that he defeats a great foe and proves his power to the world. Except the rival outright beats the hero despite his power and uses the time the good Gundam is being repaired to hold dominion over earth. So the hero has to go suitless for about half the series as he enacts with various people under the rival's terrestrial empire, teaching him about the world. And he learns about WHY he should be a savior, for reasons beyond, "I was told to". Last 4 episodes his Gundam is repaired and he heads for the rival's fortress. He fights off the human army first, then the rival and him have a fight in their Gundams that lasts the whole episode and is fought all over the planet. In the end the hero triumphs and a proper savior, not one that's been set up that way.

A world similar to ours, 20 years in the future at most.
Global Warming has suddenly increased rapidly. Space colonies are being built and more and more people are being sent to space.
Powerful nations are developing prototype MS to work on the colonies and protect them.
Weaker nations and ones unaligned with the powerful ones have stolen the designs and are beginning to build their own. Using these MS they form alliances, invade countries and their colonies to steal resources and scientists.
This begins a MS arms race where different and more powerful designs are made to combat each other in a dying world.
The timeframe is 10 years, with several episodes given to each important snapshot of the war. Alliances change over time and battles slowly get more frantic.
The perspective is told from the side of commanders and grunts of different countries, with each time frame showing multiple sides, sometimes of the same battle. The cast would diminish over time until a few grunts from each side have themselves become commanders and are leading battles against each other.

In the beginning the MS designs are more varied but as the war rages on the frames become the same to accommodate easier capture and reverse engineering of enemy tech.
Gundam is the codename given to advanced prototype parts. Most of the time the Gundam parts are spread across multiple MS, but the occasional country will place them all on a single unit in hope that the risk will be worth the reward.
I don't know how it ends, but the final battles will be fought entirely in space while countries are protecting the last few shipments of people and resources to their colonies.

There's been some big ass war between Earth and a colonial planet.
After the Feddies won, they send in a peacekeeping unit to root out all remaining insurgents and reestablish trust with the civilians.
Part of this force are also a few Gundams, which get rolled out when things get particularly hairy.

Here's the hook: it's a classic buddy cop show but with Gundams.

One pilot is crazy reckless, the other is uptight and wants to do things by the book.
One drinks too much, the other doesn't drink enough.
One whores around, the other's devoted to his gal.
