Wait, what. Someone explain this to me. I thought Kuuga was shot on some really shitty medium, which is why the raws always look terrible. Will upscaling it really make that big of a difference?Also, does anyone have the scripts for it? Aren't the only competently subbed version of it full of typos and is hardsubbed?

Kuuga was shot in 1080i. Until now, it looked so shitty because the broadcasts and DVDs used shit masters, with the exception of the Special Chapter.

The first eight episodes aired this weekend (with captions, including the Grongi-speak). The series will air in full starting February. (these are the same masters that the Blurays will have upscales of. Box 1 comes out next month)
There are no raws yet, but that's because it takes time for these things to encode.

What does component masters mean?

It means that the video signal was carried through wires with separate channels for each color, instead of having all color and lighting compressed into a single signal, which distorts the image and produces wavy rainbow patterns and crawling dot patterns on the video. It's very common on old DVDs before they finally stopped treating DVDs like Laserdiscs and actually started properly fitting things to them.
