It seems to have been being made the scapegoat for deploying the nerve gas by her commander that really broke her faith in Zeon - which yea, pretty coincidentally is also the thing that got her ostracized from Axis and Zeon in general to a life of piracy.
I can't say as I really blame her given that Zeon shat on her at least twice, three times if you want to count the destruction of her home colony for the construction of the colony laser (which seems like a less personal thing given how many were living there and it had to be some Zeon colony I guess), but it certainly makes her less sympathetic than if she'd just realized she'd commit a war-crime and rebelled along with her comrades in to piracy or something.
