Don't overthink it that much. There's no consistent criteria in sentai and neither in PR (Worse in PR since Titanium Ranger doesnt appear on SMF Silver's armor).
Also, I don't recall the term "sixth ranger" being used in sentai and the only time I recall it being used to refer to the extra rangers considered sixths in PR, and not in a numeric way is in super megaforce which was actively made to suck.

This is weird. I just checked the Japanese entry for Zyuranger, and even there the designation is referred to as "Sixth Warrior". Apparently it doesn't have an official term, even though auxillary heroes like Ninjaman/Ninjor do (Bangai/Extra Heroes).

Look at channels like, say, Film Theory. They can go for a while but they manage to keep things interesting by having interesting and relevant things onscreen for viewers to look at. But that's just filler.
There's this screenwriter, Max Landis, he's made a bunch of videos where he talks about some storyline while his friends act it out. Though he is a good writer, he's used to having something flashy and colorful to keep viewers attention, especially when his latest video, a short film about Triple H titled "Wrestling Isn't Wrestling", runs for almost a half-hour.
But then he also released a video in which he tells the story of a pitched-and-rejected idea he had for his vision of a Death and Return of Superman retelling.
It's just Landis sitting in a chair against a blank wall in a studio during his break, telling you this story, for nearly 45 minutes.
But instead of just running through this story, he engages you in the story by engaging himself. He's no actor but he tries to act out the lines as best he can and bring some emotion to it. He's excited to tell you this story, even though the only reason he's telling it to you is because DC heard this idea and said "No".
That's one of Landis' strengths - his excitement is infectious because it's genuine. I don't give a shit about pro wrestling, never watched it, but he sure made me care about Triple H. I'm sure your excitement about toku is genuine too, and if you let that carry over to your speech, the audience can be excited with you. It's not about flashy visuals, it's not about graphs and charts and le funny maymays XD. It's about emotional investment, and the ability to get others to invest with you.

From what I hear, the Takaharu focus actually lets up dramatically, so maybe they were just frontloading it all for toy sales? Whatever the case, it was that and show show being a tad dull week to week that made me stop. Maybe if Transcendent Fuuka was actually a thing, I wouldn't have.The only thing that's making me want to pick it up again is seeing Beet Buster's actor come back to play MagiYellow.
Dino Charge started to get a bit mundane after Graphite showed up, but even then, you had characters like Albert show up and also it's just a bit more fun to watch the DC team in general. It's a really good group of different characters for PR. And I've got nothing but praise for the finale. If DC can top the final arc of Kyoryu and surpass it, it can easily rate as one of the best PR seasons of all time.

And how the fuck can you think Kasumi is a waste of space? She carries the whole team (most of the time, if its not her, its Yakumo). Literally one of the biggest flaws of the show is how exageratedly useful she is compared to the rest of the team.
And not only you say this, but you say this in the same show that has fucking Fuuka who hasnt had a focus episode in the 30s and her last one literally didnt feature her fighting. She's a support character that people only care about because she's a girl.

In terms of Ninninger, they're all pretty good at being not that, with the exception of Nagi from what I've seen, but it's just so interesting how unique DC characters are from each other. I think Tyler is actually the most uninteresting, but at least he's super charismatic. Takaharu is too, but they couldn't be farther apart, since he's pretty annoying.

These redesigns are pretty modern, including Billy holding a tablet, so I assume this MMPR set in modern day but it takes place after Tommy is introduced and "Green with Evil"?

What might be happening is that the comics are basically going to be more filler episodes because hey, what else can you do? You can't have them learn a lesson they didn't in the show because then people will ask "why is Jason still acting like this in the show?" You can't have them build a new weapon because then you'll have to destroy it at the end of the story anyway because it's not in the show, and then come up with an excuse why they can't rebuild or adapt it.
Beast Wars comics had the same problem - toyline-only characters, but in the same space as the show's characters. Because toyline-only characters were still canon, they couldn't just interact with the show's cast and have it be forgotten at the end of the day, so their solution was to do some time travel shit where the toyline-only bots were "chronally out of synch" with the show's cast - basically invisible and intangible to each other.

I kinda assumed that was what was going on since the designs are modernized.
If it ends up being just filler I'm gonna be pretty disappointed. One of the main advantages of comics is the serialized format and not having to rely on adapting pre-made footage so you can tell whatever story you want in as many issues as you feel is necessary, including having more lasting character development.

good lord why did they take off the helmets? it made it hilariously obvious that they were literally the only rangers willing to return. if they'd left the helmets on, and just had voiceovers, saban wouldn't have had to fly them to new zealand, the actors wouldn't have had to spend NEARLY as much time, and they could have either afforded to or more vet rangers would have been willing to cameo.then again, if what david yost said was true, saban was just awful to the veteran actors anyway.

Considering it'd be the franchise's first time, I think we can afford to give the writers a pass on this. Besides, for having the same basic set-up, the Transformers and TMNT comics have been able to do amazing things with just a few variations here and there.

I wouldn't mind a few quick changes, ala the Flash. Single panel, non-distracting. Of course that works better for solo fights, but still. Just as long as they stop trying to replicate the stock footage sequences.
