You dont, because you cant get an over the horizon lock on it for your missiles because of bullshit minovsky physics.

They'd get fucked by minovsky particles

Be a Core Booster.
>>
>>13578469
Depends heavily on local Minovsky concentration.
>>
>>13578469
Be in the Morgan and just laser that shit from a distance before your seen.
>>
>>13578526
Couldn't you use laser-guided munitions? I'm not 100% clear on how Russian Guy particles work.
>>
>>13578469

Fly straight at them, never use anything other than nose cannons at knife fighting distance, and the moment you see them point a gun in your general direction eject and self destruct your plane in a massive explosion.

Anything else would hurt their feelings, or god forbid hurt someone!
>>
>>13578526

Fun fact: a heat seeking missile fired in the general direction of the enemy from over the horizon, even if minovsky particles mean you don't know exactly where they are, will still hit a Mobile Suit with greater than 90% accuracy because while the missile wont be able to detect shit from afar, the closer it gets the more accurate it will become just like all other sensors. So it will start off going the wrong way, and then course correct as it flies until it locks on and hits.

The only reason this doesn't happen in UC is because Tomino thinks that missiles have to have their exact course locked it at the time the missile is fired and then it can never be changed.
>>
>>13578571
Minovsky interference fucks unshielded electronics. By Zeta limited missile guidance starts showing up again but at the time of the OYW they had no way of cost and performance efficiently protecting their control systems.
>>
>>13578554
Depends on the levels of M-particles. Seems like radio and radar go first, then infrared, then visible light. UC communications are usually done by laser, but in dense Minovsky conditions even this is unreliable.

I think the ideal solution is something fiber-optically guided. Interestingly the Regina missile in MS IGLOO 2 meets this description perfectly.

>>
Couldn't you just put an explosive payload inside of a fin funnel instead of a laser and guide it to a target using newtype magic?

Then just strap a bunch of them to an F-35 and you're good.
>>
>>13578469
>Load Minovsky reactors and a beam cannon into an A-10.

Proven in UC 0096, then 105 and then again in G-Reco centuries later.

Haro was made by Amuro Ray, Space Autist.

>>
Pixy did nothing wrong
>>
>>13578769

Nope! Retconned!

Amuro bought an off the shelf Haro and modified it to make it smarter. Those improvements later were incorporated into later generation Haro's, but Haro's are children's toys.

Even if they were not, and Amuro himself was responsible for its construction and shielding, the fact that he put together effective shielding in his garage for something 1/10th the size of a missile means that his Haro was secretly the most important piece of technology developed in the OYW, not beam weapons or the Gundam at all.
>>
>>13578801
Minovsky particles don't fuck with all electronics- the lights in ships don't flicker on and off, and the interior computers and monitors work just fine. Minovsky particles effect long-range scanning equipment.
>>
>>13578813

So missiles that adjust their course over time to take advantage of greater accuracy as it becomes available (by getting closer to their target) should be effective anti-ship and anti-mobilesuit weapons. As long as you fire in the same direction as the enemy, as the missile gets closer it gains a better read on the enemy and makes course corrections as needed until it has a firm lock.
>>
>>13578840
This works if you and the other guy are the only two heat signatures around, but you're probably gonna end up hitting your own guys if you try that sort of thing in a larger battle.
>>
>>13578867

Not if you are using this for long range warfare the likes of which is supposedly impossible in UC. Sure, if you fire this into a packed ongoing firefight with the enemy already on top of your forces you probably don't want to fire away. But its a valid weapon to use against enemy battlegroups from afar, well outside of the range of conventional return fire.
>>
>>13578963
In the novels, they use decoys specifically to prevent that sort of long range bombardment.
>>
>>13578469
Honest question, SOP?
>>
>>13578979
Standard operating procedure = "that thing you usually do in a given situation."
>>
>>13578631
I keep on hearing this in these threads. What kind of fucked are we talking here? Would the electronic start working perfectly again if it was taken out of the Minovsky field, need repairs, or be only good for scrap/recycling?

And what kind of shielding would an electronic need? Is it a special material, what thickness does it need to be, etc?
>>
>>13578990
No hardware damage, it just temporarily makes sensors and targeting less effective. The heavier the particle density, the less effective.
>>
>>13578801
Maybe the larger/more complicated the electronic the more shielding it needs to function.
>>
>>13578989

He was a mercenary in a war that had him fight against his mother country. He helped single handedly turn the tide of the war and his homeland opted to nuke itself rather than allow further incursions and be occupied.

He became disenchanted with soldiers on both sides of the war seeing as they were nothing but pawns for the genopolitcal struggles of the elites and helped founded an group that wanted to do away with all boarders as they were cause of war. They were going to launch a weapon that would nuke every major population center in the world to achieve that goal.

You were his buddy.

...Actually, the anime version has been rewritten so as to be lore-friendly with the regular timeline, and as such is just as "canon" as the rest of it.

Even the Guntank Char used has been changed into an early version of the Guntank (complete with a slightly altered design) rather than an alternate version used in Origin's take on the OYW. The only real inconsistency so far is the MS-04 redesign, which is different from both the versions from MSV and origin, but seeing as the neither MS-04 design by has technically seen the light of day on any screen, this isn't a retcon by any stretch, merely it's first appearance and officially recognized design.

It's not THE Guntank, just A Guntank.
It's more rudimentary, not necessarily 'realistic,' but it's more like one of the first steps in the transition from tanks towards Mobile Suits.

We still haven't seen the anime's MS-04. We do have MS-03, though, which matches the manga.

Not dramatic enough. You need something that will give you enough time to show the plane being cleaved in two, the shocked expressions of everyone present, and a 30 second flashback using previously animated scenes.

Then it explodes mid air.

>>
>>13578990
Don't try to make sense of Minovsky particles, they do whatever is necessary to render the OYW into World War II IN SPACE and they get separately attached to any other technology created for stylistic purposes. Things that get around the limitations created by them (ie optical band sensors, laser communication) get applied inconsistently based on plot needs. Gundam is not actually about the technology.
>>
>>13578801

It's remarkably easy to shield a toy robot, You're looking at a couple extra kilograms of mesh, foil and wiring. You could do it in a day.

Now hardening military missiles? With the understanding that you need to harden all sensors, processing, guidance and actuation?

That's quite a bit harder, especially since it's not a known quantity of interference, so you need to make "Hard" missiles of significantly weaker effectiveness so reliability doesn't take a nosedive in multi MS engagements.

Remember that scale is a bitch in both directions: Taking something complex and making it smaller is damn near impossible, but taking the simple solution and scaling it up is nearly as awful.
>>
>>13578571
You would need a maneuverable missile to accomplish that, and air-to-ground missiles usually aren't. Furthermore, you could just put flares on the mobile suits to render the heat seekers moot. Lets not forget that heat seekers only have a rank of 5km which puts the plane well within range of vulcan fire.
>>
>>13578469

>>13579118
>Decide to use beam funnels
>Need to mount special recharging equipment on the mobile suit so they can be reused
>Not impossible to dodge, even unnamed Stark Jegan pilots can do it
>Funnel gets destroyed
>Mobile suit is down a funnel until it (possibly) gets a replacement

>Decide to use funnel missiles
>Just mount some launchers so you can fire them
>Much harder to dodge
>Funnel missile gets destroyed
>Just launch more and restock next time you're at base

I'd imagine, with nearly 30 years passing since Psycommu weapons were invented, they'd be able to produce them much more easily.
>>
Basically you have to do what the Americans did when fighting the Zero in WW2, by refusing to dogfight against a design with superior low speed maneuvering capability.

With guns this can be done by exploiting your superior climb rate and dive speed by ascending to a greater altitude and diving at the mecha at high speed and firing a burst of gunfire at it. If you kill it, it dies and you win. If you don't kill it, the speed you built up in your dive lets you speed right past and escape much faster than it can catch up with you.

With missiles this can be done without ever seeing the mecha with your own two eyes, hitting it with hypersonic missiles from over the horizon.
>>
>>13588539
>the speed you built up in your dive lets you speed right past and escape much faster than it can catch up with you.

Not to mention the increasingly powerful battle computers that are constantly calculating and predicting enemy trajectories.

In fact if anything in the original, it was the Gundam's 'learning computer' that was its main advantage rather than its armour or weapons, at least by the end.
