For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

Nah, the parts separation is very minimal, so there are not many parts you get e.g leg is one whole piece, arm is just two pieces. So unless you want to put a whole leg on your GM, it's not worth it.

After seeing beamknight's sweet hyaku shiki/akatsuki pics I've decided to make that my next 1/100 purchase. I'm kind of stuck though, despite the regular shiki color being terrible i really like the proportions over the 2.0 (which is a bit skinny at the waist, no?), so what do you fags think? reg shiki or 2.0? only 10 dollar difference. I would throw akatsuki into this query too but the only 1/100 I've found is $115.

maybe you are talking about bandai's chromed akatasuki kit? that one is really expensive, but be aware mine is the version released by Dragon Momoko, which is NOT plated, it only comes gold painted (as if you used a tamiya gold spray can over the pieces) and should be around 40 bucks or so

They do sometimes. Probably depends on tolerances, kit by kit basis, etc. The Beargguy F (Family) kit has some ABS joints, for example.

Fellow Gogg owners, please help. How high on the shoulder armor should the rod be placed? The little "stump" within the shoulder armor that allows you to attach the hand alone in the last picture makes putting the whole arm on a pain. If I slide the rod all the way up the shoulder armor then it feels like I am forcing the piece, and after some playing around with it the arm tends to pop apart. Yet when I don't slide the arm all the way up, it makes the arm feel loose. I know there should be one position that is correct to get a full range of motion but still stay on correctly. Suggestions or tips from others with the model?

GBF threads got some dogged trolls following them, but generally people were enjoying the show too much to pay it much heed (aside from the stretches of Build-Knucklerama). When Try and G-Reco aired at the same time, shitposting intensified - Try got ripped to pieces, but G-Reco threads generally were pretty chill, almost hugboxy.
Basically, trolls hate getting shut down, so they just tried harder until it worked. And without enough of a widespread enjoyment of the show to drown it out again, it's been that much easier to be effective. So now it's IBO that's getting pilloried, AND they're still beating the drum on G-Reco to make up lost ground.
( Not that both shows are undeserving of it, mind, but it sure seems like some people got butthurt they were ignored before and have just been nursing that grudge ever since. )

they are textured. Lots and lots of little rigid bumps where the sticker is meant to go. You're supposed to press down with a q-tip/cotton swab to let the sticker sink into the gaps and create the reflector look. It looks awesome, so long as you do it correctly.

All the reasons.
There are three main characters which means that there is no real main character. In terms of their potential to be compelling, it goes Fumina>Yuuma>Sekai, but in terms of the focus they get in battles and their importance to the team, it goes in reverse. Three-on-three battles also leaves little time for enemy introduction, it's usually one "tough" guy and two scrubs, and the fights also suffer because they're following too many actors.
The supporting cast is also an issue. For starters, the early "rivals" of the show are way more compelling and interesting than the main characters. Even the late-game ones are for the most part. But, more importantly, the show is basically monster of the week the whole way through. BF set up Fellini, Mao, Nils, Aila, and others really early on; TRY would've introduced Aila like two episodes before the fight with her, tops. Only team Celestial Try-hard and Mao MK. II are properly introduced and developed as sort-of rivals.

The biggest thing that bothers me is that the series is a LOT of wasted potential. There's a good selection of units and characters. The plot is one short-term goal after another with a fair share of "what do we do next?" thrown in between.
Using the same characters and units, but with a setup similar to GBF would have made things so much better: Introduce rivals and challengers early. **Have an long-term goal to follow through the series** Show people actually building gunpla.

I was writing up a response as to why its bad but I broke 2k words, but basically, characters are generic and lack any sort of motivation outside of yuuma and sort of minato, the mobile suits are all overly customized shits, most of which being barely recognizable from the suits they were based on, there's stupid concepts like assimilation that has no purpose other then to give the already overpowered main character an even easier way to win, everyone loves the main character that never has to work for his wins to the point where he's got three girls lusting after his dick, there's a ridiculous amount of stock footage involved, the 3v3 format makes no sense, any amount of tactics on the opponents end doesn't matter because again the main character is overpowered to shit because of a suit he doesn't even build or know the history of, and most of all when we got season one which was this great tribute to gundam and gunpla we are then handed this hot mess of garbage where the main character doesn't even know what gundam is in a universe where it's the most popular fucking thing around and is rewarded for being a spammy, annoying retard because he supposedly knows martial arts.
But even then he doesn't because he just spams special moves and we never even see him doing much of anything outside of practicing straight punches in a scene in one episode.

They're more.... distinct. It's a weird complaint, but I didn't care as for them as much because they felt like Gunpla. I just could never see most of the non-SD suits in try being part of another Gundam franchise. Every other custom felt like a viable alternative version of their original suit. Maybe not all of their gimmicks, looking at you plavsky gates, but the general designs would feel at home in their source material.

Hello /m/, I want to get into Gunpla but I was wondering if starting with a MG 1/100 F91 was a good idea.I can have it for cheap (25 euros), but I'm not going to do anything crazy with it, just building it, panel lining and maybe some spraying some flat top coat like >>13573160 did. Start with a cheap HG as your first. That way when you mess up on your first kit, it won't be a huge loss. Buy the MG F91, it's great, but save it for later when you've gotten a better handle on things.

Seconding what >>13575264 said, do a few HG and work your way to MG. Topcoat and panel lining are easy to mess up on your first go, no reason to destroy your favorite suit. For what it matters, there are recent HG kits but the old HGUC kits like Char's Zaku and GM that are cheap are still acceptable.

I was shit posting, but truthfully my only beef is the 'goggles' being a bit too large and not threatening enough like how a monoeye can alternate between adorable and terrifying with a simple head tilt. I also think it'd look better with a warmer color like an orange, red or purple. The cool tone from the blue doesn't mesh as nicely with how neutral a lot of the its other colors are, and the beam shield dominates a good section with bright pink which imo gives clashing color tones when they're both glowing or neon at times.
Oh and the gunlance part. I'm fine with a gunlance but the handle grip and the tiny barrels just end up looking weedy compared to the rest of the weapon.

Go for it. The learning curve is only 5 minutes of your time and when you understand the building process. It becomes easy. Nothing wrong with going for 1/100 scale if you can afford it and definitely if it's your favorite kit. 1/144 is a cheaper alternative if you're planning on doing a collection.

No wonder you only make scratches. Yes, go from rougher grits (low hundreds) to medium to high grits. Like, an ideal would be using files -> 400-600 ->1000 -> 1500 -> 2000 (bit 1500/2000 are excessive for if you don't want to prime and paint).

Well dust in lungs is one of the most painful things i have experienced. I havent got sanding dust, but when i first got into cosplay, someone said to spray some glue before i paint, got some of it in and was coughing for about a day. I could feel everything in my lungs and it hurt.
As for grit i always go somewhere between 400-800. Switch from a metal file to wet sandpaper

Maybe you guys can help me with a question. It's my first time working on an older PG kit, specifically the RX-78. How am I supposed to tell which screw I'm supposed to use for a given step? The baggies they come in aren't marked in any way. They're color coded, which I'm assuming is how the manual specifies them, but I don't read moon runes.

Use the full google translate page, there should be a sort of drop down menu that shows additional kanji that are basically synonyms. That being said, I can read mandarin and nipnop does match chingchong to an extent. The symbol circled in red means big//large and the one circled in blue means small so maybe it could help you out?

I was using the full page, but that does help a little. I can at least rule one of the baggies out now. There's a red bag of screws with larger heads, a green bag of screws with smaller heads, and a yellow bag of screws with the same head as the green bag but with a shorter length. The one I'm trying to figure out is the one I circled in this one, but the resolution of the scan on dalong is shite. It looks like the one you indicated as small though.

I think I probably have it now by matching the symbols you pointed out to the parts list and using the counts to rule out which is which. It looks like the "large" is in the red bag, the "small" is in the green bag, and the yellow bag has fewer screws than the other two, so that has to be the one listed on the parts page as having a total of 8. Very few things to help yourself get better are a bad idea anon. Regardless of how shit you may feel making mistakes, it's not worth wimping out of showing is so we can help you get better. You'll mess up painting on your first try most likely, but that's part of life. Roll with the punches, ask for advice and you'll make it through.
Also, if you ever customize anything, check for second opinions beforehand. People may know of a weapon or color scheme that you didn't think of to really get the theme you want.
