For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

I don't hate the Hovergogg idea with the Zeong body, but I think your harpoons idea is tasteful. The only thing I would offer is to consider attaching them to legs instead of the arms, like the Kampfer's panzerfausts. It'd just be something different, I guess. I don't know if it would actually look all that good as I don't know how big those harpoons are.

I'd be putting the harpoon launchers on the backpack, since on the arms it would look strange. The claws are already a weapon on the arms, so no reason to add more there. Especially with the square shape of the guns, which would mesh with the fairly square-like backpack.

Kampfer, Gouf Custom, and Gelgoog Marine - OYW Elite Zeon regiment. The Gelgoog is the commander, the Gouf is the tank and can hold down the line or engage in close quarters with that sword & wrist-mounted machine gun, and the Kampfer does recon.

The contest is a model building competition. You build three models and then they get put in a head-to-head comparison on social media. Whichever model gets the most likes-or-equivalent wins.
I'm not real worried about the rules or anything, it's just a fun excuse to build models with a specific goal in a timeframe.
I don't know what you mean by "how much work". I airbrush, do pla plates, kitbash, and so on. I'm not a great modeller by any means and I'm slow (it takes me a month to build a High Grade on average), so I look forward to the challenge. It also lets me meet others in my local gunpla community, which I didn't know was a thing.

None of them are super hard builds except the Nu thanks to its funnels, so all of them should register fairly high on the quality of the build scale so they'll have improved performance. Nu for close in beam sabers and funnel support of itself. A self sufficient unit. The GM for long range precision support and firepower while the Athene is hit-and-run/mid-range and supports the other two as they need it. My most accurate friend I'll force into the Jim, grab the Athene for me and get one of my other friends for the Nu. I may have to trade him depending on who is better with funnels.

I might not get to draft a Z'Gok, Gogg and Juaggu. There's also some models on the list that I wouldn't normally really go for.
Like all the modelling I do, it's really just for my own shits and gigs.

I know this might be a weird question but how do you guys choose what gunpla to buy?
I used to make impulse purchases when I find gunpla in physical stores and order kits online based on their engineering, color seperation, articulation, and how much I give a shit.
Now days everything seemed either not worth buying or not my thing, I literally lost the desire to buy new kits, except maybe the upcoming RE efret and Gusion from IBO.Is this what adulthood feels like

I put the cannons on the back, like you said but i also added the extra arm things that held the shields on the cardigan, but i added the autocannons that came with the cardigan add-on thing to the shield.
I also added the forearm alex cannon things to the arms and painted them navy blue. I also added a bit of armor and thrusters from the builder's parts add-ons and put some thrusters on the back of the legs. But I feel like it could be more. Any ideas on where to put some additional armor or thrusters?

Why not just combine the old model with the Gyagya? You'd literally only need to fit the head and the shoulders onto the new kit

Okay, like, look at TV version Sandrocks' shapes. The way the pauldrons sweep out but still match along with the angular curvature of the skirt armor, and with the head crest. In addition, the ankle coverings and their shapes continue this trend and also flow with the shape of the legs splendidly. All of these go together so well in making the Sandrock look really solid and 'heavy', with the Heavy Arms being the only other equally as 'dense' looking from the original five. At the same time it is also very round without being actually round. Its a very clever use of shapes, to make it look like cuirass or breastplate. Even the shotels add to this, being round but not too round, exaggerated just enough and huge but not the unwieldy mess that is the Endless Waltz version.
Then we get into the color apps, which is honestly what the Deathscythe wishes it was. It has a good blend of just a few colors that draw interest into its torso, the pauldrons and especially legs being that sparse white only draws your eye into the chest, which is frankly very beefy compared to the other Gundams besides Shen Long and Heavy Arms, and of course Tallgeese. The colors on the chest also form a T shape, further emphasizing the shape of the overall torso and giving it a distinctly masculine feel. The red Gundam chin being done across the entire 'jawline' as a separate piece is also clever and gives it a stylized beard, adding to that (middle) eastern masculine warrior motif they were going for.
The only out of place element is the shield, and mostly because its practically a flat plate, and thankfully they either forgot about it or hid that half the time.
Then when I go and look at the Sandrock Kai its just..

Correct me if I'm wrong but Katoki did that one, and his usual habit of super long (skinny) legs and big pauldrons but otherwise skinny torsos and arms plays against every one of the Sandrock's original visual attributes. The legs don't flow as well, the skirt armor isn't even the same shape or size and looks more 'generic Gundam', the waist is cinched almost comically, the pauldron's layered almost pangolin-esque shape plays against the flow of the armor everywhere BUT the skirt, the jagged shape of the head crest also fights against it, and the shotels.. well the shotels are silly i'm sorry. I'd be fine with anime huge(r) versions of the old ones, but these things just look unwieldy without any sort of cool, say, giant arm attachment to wield them with.
It looks cool up until it ditches the Maganoc suits and cloak, then it just turns into an unwieldy mess that loses any of the solidity and coolness of the old one. Even the color selection isn't as enticing as TV Sandrock with that dull blue and light greys, and while red add some pop its not enough to save it - plus Katoki ditched the Gundam beard which is a no-no in my book.
He scrapped a lot of stable, subdued, and yet strong visual features in favor of harder geometric patterns and over all another skinny, frankly gaudy, mess.

I forgot to add, Sandrock being the 'heaviest armor Gundam' was also a selling point for me, and I feel like that added into its vaguely Sikh-esque death dervish holy warrior aspect. Katoki cut that down significantly. But then he also did the same to the Shen Long and Altron, who both had great torso designs (even if they are G Gundam knock offs) and I.. I guess i'm older now and don't find the visual gimmick of the arm-dragons or Zero Custom's angel wings engrossing anymore. Not when simple but solid Sandrock was there waiting for me all these years later.
I curse my younger self for hating Sandrock simply because Quattre piloted it.

That's the RG right? The connection between the torso and waist are kinda weak and tends to fall off during manipulation, so you might wanna thicken the male connector with some superglue or paint.

I limit myself to one at a time right now, currently taking it very slow since I don't have the time to paint. So on weekends I spend a bit of time getting parts for my Barbatos off the runner and finely sanding them up. The extra time in between is giving me time think about how exactly I want to paint the details and what parts of the inner frame to paint.

What's the word on top coating rubber? Avoided it before on the MG Patlabor since it ws easy to remove there but I'm doing the MG z'gok now and there's a lot of fucking rubber to remove when top coating later (have to top coat outside and the cold and humidity won't be good enough until around march/april)

I got the RG MkII Titans to break up all the whites in most of my RGs but I might get the AEUG sometime later.
Don't know about the Revive but the RG does have two tones of dark blue that looks sweet with the great part separation.
Like >>13567535 said though, the AEUG is not the standard gundam tricolor, it's closer to the Nu's color scheme.
But hey, there's no wrong in whatever you choose, different strokes for different folks.
