Is it true that /m/ was created to keep SEED Destiny from overrunning /a/? I've heard that mentioned a couple times over the past few years, but the timeline doesn't really work out -- /m/ was around by August 2004, and Destiny aired in October 2004.

I seem to recall Destiny threads being pushed towards /m/, but I don't remember when /m/ was made.
Since as we all know anime are announced exactly 3 days before airing and nobody knows about them 2 months ahead of time
I think many anti-seed fans transfer to /a/ to make there own thread to avoid war words by jesus cultivist fans.

When Seed Destiny aired we had one thread at a time and most people dropped it. I couldn't watch after like twenty episodes it wasn't funny anymore it was just really sad. All we did was make fun of it. Nobody liked it. Those were the good old days!

Naturally , /m/ was created for mecha anime since it was the hot shit from mid 70's to mid 90's.
Just like /vr/ exists for retro vidya gaems.
