I recently started Ergo Proxy, but I need to know before I get in too deep: Exactly how complicated and convoluted is this plot? I'm on like episode 3 and it feels like something I need to be paying attention to every single detail in order to get the story. I'm cool with doing this, but if I can just relax and go with the flow of things I'm not opposed to that either. Any opinions on it?

Not really. it goes off in a totally different direction soon. Its not hard to follow unless your slow. might have to rewatch the last episode a few times. Its ones of my favorites

Pretty much this.
First couple episodes have a noir detective horror vibe, then when they leave its still kinda wtf is going on. Last few episodes should probably be rewatched a couple of times to understand what happened

It's not that deep or complicated, but the finale left me confused. It gets a little too philosophical and metaphorical toward the end, and there are a lot of last minute reveals (that aren't really explained all that well).
