Does /m/ prefer mecha shows and movies as serious or jokey?
Serious, with light-hearted moments to give the characters some humanity

Both at different times
Lighthearted but not comedic.
Why not both?

These days I prefer jokey, though it comes and goes in phases. One of the reasons I can't into IBO (right now).

i prefer my mecha anime to be jokingly serious and my western mecha to be serious. although said seriousness really hurts when it's overdone.

Newtypes are easy to distinguish.

well the superior race is easy to distinguish, thats right.

This.
Thinking of my favorite shows it's easy to say I prefer jokey (Gunbuster, SDF Macross, FLCL, LoGH, GE999), but I can appreciate a story that sticks to its guns when it wants to lay it on.

What if you enjoy both?
>>13556055
Everyone does. OP wants to know which tone you prefer, if you do.

I prefer my mecha hotblooded, humorous, and with a dash of serious drama.
Drama is like salt. It's a nifty spice, but too much of it makes me cringe and gag.
Likewise, going overboard with jokes makes it impossible to even care about something that shits all over itself.
